"Want to play attacking cricket, take 20 wickets, that’s why we're going with 5 bowlers" : Azhar Ali

Azhar Ali speaking after the Leicestershire match:

"We came and we got some practice games and we had a test match against Ireland, which was a very good game also"

"I think we had very good preparation and we are hoping we can transfer that good preparation into the big games against England"

"Amir is fine and he bowled even with an injury and he bowled very well against Ireland. In the last couple of days he’s doing his rehab and also he was doing his bowling, he’s quite comfortable"

[on Sarfaraz going off the field] “Yeah, he’s fine, he's had a lot of games. He's had some time off to complete his training”

"No, I will not definitely not keep wicket, I am sure he (Sarfaraz) will be fine"

"Time at the crease is always very important, I am happy that I have some spend some time in the middle in this game"

"It's good to have some rhythm going and before a big game it's good to feel the ball on the bat"

"Well, I have a responsibility obviously but it's a team game. Everybody needs to chip in and as a senior player, I need to ensure that I play my part. And inshAllah I will do whatever I can, to do my best to build a platform to help our bowlers."

"I think good bowlers will always make you work and we have good bowlers"

“It's early summer, the weather is improving and the wickets will get better and the conditions will suit the batsmen also. It’s never easy to play in England. Whenever you come it's always challenging and obviously English bowling attack is good as well and we are respectful of that”

"We know the challenge ahead and we are prepared to do our best. It’s a big opportunity for everyone, especially for the youngsters, if they do well, things will get easier"

[Asked if side will be similar to Irish match] "That’s the way we are thinking right now, we want to play attacking cricket and want to take 20 wickets and that’s why we are going with 5 bowlers so hopefully, this side will do well for us"

I assume this means that Shadab and Faheem are confirmed to be in the playing XI for the Lord's Test.

Not expecting any changes, then.

Problem is if this backfires, we are done for. When england gets their opponent down, they don't allow them to stand back up. I am having a dejavu of 2006 where all top 6 england batsmen were piling runs against us from start to finish.

How did I forget the legend :rahat

Yeah, it'll be surprising if Hasan doesn't play. So hopefully one change at least.

As per George Dobell the legend :rahat was impressive but unfortunate not to get wickets. It reminded me of his old name the 'unlucky Rahat Ali' I fear Rahat will be playing in Lords.

I am not comfortable with Sarfraz at 6 and Faheem has not looked threatening with the ball. So what is the use actually?

If your main bowlers need a bit rest then we have more than enough decent part bowlers this time around.

I would have preferred a stable nr 6 in the line up with Broad, Anderson and Wood looking in top notch form.

I like Faheem and he is the future, but a Fakhar/Usman would add a lot more in the long run considering our batting will be our main problem.

Yes and he said Hasan couldn't get it off the straight.
Mickey wants late swing.
I think it will go down to conditions. If swing conducive then rahat is in

No we don't. Butler and stokes will kill people like shafiq and azhar.
Faheem bowled very well yesterday and was bowling very tight lines

What an awful series that was. In fairness, our pace attack is a big upgrade on what we had that summer in Umar Gul, Shahid Nazir and Mohammad Sami.

Plus we have DRS so no racist Darrell Hair or incompetent Billy Doctrove to screw us over.

5 bowlers? Rahat is minus 2 bowlers all by himself.

And is this team the weakest that's toured England in 25 years? Apparently, their amateur level batters had no trouble picking Shadab, and Hasan Ali couldn't figure out what to do with the Duke ball.

Duke ball in the hands of their bowlers [even Wood/Woakes aren't easy at home] against a long tail could lead to 80 all out.

Brave move, dangerous and risky move also.

However Faheem and Shadab at 7 and 8 are probably more likely to score runs than most of the top 6.

Kevin O'Brien made a comment that concerned me that when he was in the 90s in that Test two weeks ago he wanted to face Shadab as he found it easy to pick him.

Shadab is a very promising all-rounder but has a lot of developing to do as a spinner in the Test format. Legspin is a tough art to master, and one of the reasons why I think it was a mistake to let Mushtaq go to the West Indies as he could've used him as a mentor.
