"Wanted to create a culture of ruthlessness" : Virat Kohli

India has been the greatest home/SC bully ODI team in the last 2 years. One of the worst away.

Pak has been one of the worst ODI team in the last few years if we look at their home performances. Did a lot better overseas.

It is hilarious and completely laughable stuff actually. We won the champions trophy by beating all the team in England.
What is your so called 'better in Overseas' team doing there. Defeat after defeat after defeat. Don't bring on those meaningless odi matches agaist southafrica, because ICC Champions Trophy>>>> any meaningless odi series.

So bloody Kohli this is your culture of aggressiveness where you went and picked 4 bowlers in Australia (with not even a decent part timer who can roll his arm without getting plundered)?

Don't care about the result but before the press conference your statements looked like you would actually go with 5 bowlers and now you didn't walk the talk.

Bugger off.

Idiot.
Mamoon was right about you.

Regardless of what ppl say about him after his team loses to Aus, Kholi will prove to be a better Test captain than Dhoni.

Also, couldn't find anything wrong in what he actually said.

Who said he won't be?

Being better than Dhoni in tests atleast overseas is a kids play cos the bar is set too low.

The point was about his big talks and no action.

If one can't back their talk up with action, its better to stay quiet.

Told ya, helluva difference between talking and practically doing something. :afridi

Test isn't over so let's see how it goes.. Yadav should've been selected.

If he is involved in selecting Karan Sharma then he deserves the criticism.
I personally thought he captained well today. No captain can do much when Warner is in Beast mode.

He held his nerve and the boys pulled it back slightly by end of play.

First new ball wasn't used but second new ball worked well. Dhoni doesn;t even attack with the second new ball, atleast Virat did! :Kohli

Really can't blame kohli here. I think an aggressive mentality would do us wonders in LOI's. In tests, its quite impractical unless you have openers of the quality of a David warner or a quality pace attack.

So it just took 1 day of the series for the knives to come out. :)))

No bro.

He promised something else and did something else.

Not talking about his captaincy.

If you wanna be ruthless, you play to WIN. Our team is not the best combo for winning.

He might grow into this role and one day he will be a good captain, but at the moment he is not ready. He's the type of captain who will look fantastic when the team is on top, but if you have him on the mat, he will fail to read the situation and respond.

No matter how much Indians are sick of him, there is no replacement of Dhoni the captain yet.

As opposed to Kohli who is playing for what?? Drama????

How did you come to conclusion by looking at the team selection..????..his field placings were attacking..he was lively even during the phainta...and made decent bowling changes managing the work load of the bowlers..and maintained the over rate by the end of the day which was dismal after the end of first session...

Its almost feels conclusion is taken beforehand..and then reason built around it...

It would have been equally dismall to have Saha of all people batting at # 6 with a relatively young batsmans who have very less or nill experience playing in Australia...

Did I speak a word about Kohli's captaincy?

A word.

Just his team selection. That too he gave a different impression before the match and did something else.

Even in the ruthlessness thread, you can check.

You can't learn captaincy overnight. It takes time & trial & error.

I won't be surprised to know that dhoni still has say in team selection even if he is not playing. Kohli would have picked umesh for sure. :sanga

of course with Dhoni being present there everything off the field would be done with his blessing.

Dunno bro.

Could be.

But he did make the statements before the test that playing safe isn't going to help us and all that. He need not have done that if he doesn't have much of a say.

Yes he shouldn't have made those statements because everyone knows stand-in captains have no power off the field. Their decisions are controlled by the actual captains. Remember how Tendulkar said to Ganguly in Multan, "Come on you're the actual captain and you're telling me that you didn't know that Dravid was going to declare? I don't believe that!"

Indian bowling is tough to attack with. The bowling except for Ishant isn't accurate enough. They spray the ball too much. Add an inexperienced leg spinner to the mix, it is a captain's nightmare. India were lucky to knock off a few wickets with the second new ball. Whatever the nature of the pitch, the bowling had no business going 4.5 runs per over for most part of the day. You can only attack with bowlers who are consistent. You can have one spray gun in your team whom you might give a free reign to, but India had 3. At some point the captain needs to think about damage control. We are not talking about McGrath, Waqar, Shane Warne type of bowlers here for the captain to keep attacking fields on flat decks. Blaming Dhoni is funny as he would not have much say every over or every ball on the field, unless you have proof that Kohli was wearing an earpiece. When your team is going at 4.5 runs an over and wickets are not falling, every captain will resort to defensive field (madatory 2 slips, gully sort of setup) on a flat wicket.

Attacking captain or not, they will all react the same.

I see a lot of desperation in Indian fans in forcing Kohli to become a better captain than he is simply because they don't want Dhoni to lead them anymore.

Just accept the reality. Kohli isn't half the tactician Dhoni is and never will be.

It is not Kohli or Dhoni. Dhoni was very successful as captain before the 2011 England tour as the bowling was decent for India. Zaheer was doing well, Anil was doing well for a brief while before his retirement and we had a short ressurgence of Bajji before he faded away. Once these guys went downhill, India did not have bowlers who can keep things quiet making Dhoni to resort to defensive fields. With bowlers like Aaron, Shami and the young Leggie, I am sure Kohli would have thought that he cannot attack for ever. The score could have read 400/4 or something like that if he had attacking fields throughout the day. Every captain does damage control when the opponent is running away with the game. I am sure Kohli will start with attacking fields first thing on day 2 as they got few wickets with the new ball.

Dhoni himself was the problem. So many times, we had 2-3 wickets falling and Dhoni spreading the field giving easy singles or bowling wrong set of bowlers. Drawn tests in SA and NZ were primarily Dhoni's own creation due to some silly defensive fields.

Kohli himself may turn out to be worse than Dhoni but when you have lost 13 of your last 22 tests as captain , in the process 5 test series, a change in leadership is the basic thing you'd try to stem the rot. In that sense I am glad Kohli has got a lucky chance to lead here.

He promised ruthless approach. He promised to select a XI to win not to play safe.

I think he did select Karn because leggies are a better wicket taking option than offspiners.

India couldn't have played 5 bowlers unless Bhuvy was fit and they went in with Ashwin.
