Bit of a moral dilemma.

If you were tourists in Pakistan, based on what you know from this video, would you also help this child or leave him be?

I dont like giving such kids money, as have no idea where it will end up. However I want to help them but its always not practical(due to time) to get them food, drinks etc.

Pakistanis more likely to be desensatised seeing such kids. Foriegn tourists will struggle more seeing this imo.

My view, the tourist did the right thing, bought him clothing, food and gave no money.

Having visited a very poor nation I am aware of surprisingly intelligent and sophisticated street scams to manipulate Westerners’ guilt complexes.

I think you are about right - any money donated is likely to go straight to whoever is using the boy. Clothing and feeding him is decent behaviour however.

Its more difficult those of us living in conditions where we dont see so much poverty in the streets, to ignore so easily.

Yes I think it would be better to keep juice cartons or snacks and hand those out.

Its not so now but previously when landing at the airport in Pakistan, so many child beggars would approach you. I didnt realise at a young age, the money they collect goes to gang leaders. Heroin is so cheap, they are often forced into addiction too. Sad reality of life in some parts of the world.

It is noble to help those in need. If they misuse the money it is between them and Allah. By giving we have done our part in helping another person. This can also be said with Zakat that it could be used in an inappropriate manner yet we are still encouraged to give it.

Its not noble or Islamic to give money to a drug addict.

Poor kid, its not his fault he's addicted but giving him cash will only worsen his addiction.

Please do not give Islamic opinions(fatwahs) on giving money.

I would give foods, drinks, and clothes; and with homeless people whenever I’ve encountered them in the UK, Europe, US etc I’ve always done this.

It upsets me to see so many of my fellow humans walking past the homeless and ignoring them.

If a homeless person keeps a dog for protection / companionship, I will add in a can of dog food as well.

Give money, and it would be somewhat likely to be spent on drugs and alcohol, which would only deepen the person’s plight…

I just give money to the homeless. If they buy crack maybe they will buy food with the money someone else gives them, or it will the money I give will prevent them from having to do other acts to obtain money to fund their addiction.

I haven't watched the video in the OP but generally kids from organised begging gangs have quotas and if they don't meet them they will be beaten by their masters.

As much as I would like to wave a magic wand and magic it all away, the only way to help them in the short term is to give them cash and hope it eases their suffering.

Similarly from drug addict homeless in the other countries the sandwich from greggs we give them isn't going to satiate their herion need. They will crave drugs no matter how many blankets, cups of tea or biscuits we give them. Unfortunately going to bed on a full stomach won't stop their cravings. Their addiction has such a grip on them that they will go to unimaginable extremes to ensure they obtain what they need.

As much as it sounds dismissive of their plight, the only way for a common passerby to help these people is to assist them to buy drugs. Anything else is just increasing their pain and delaying the inevitable.

I would probably buy him food or something useful.

Don't be daft accusing me of giving any fatwa. It is simply humanity to help someone in need. No junkie would say he will use the money on buying drug's. Mostly they will insist they need it to buy food. You are no one to judge anyone's intentions by telling us what poor people will use money on.
