Was Misbah-ul-Haq reluctant to groom youngsters or is it just a myth?

Now, I'm not a fan of conspiracy theories and am a strong believer in innocent till proven guilty. So am not a fan of theories like Misbah is the reason we played slow in ODIs or that he ruined world class talents like Umar and Shehzad.

However there is a clear pattern when it comes to favoring seniors over younger, newer players. The way Nawaz has been mistreated in the last 2 games is pretty disappointing, given that his bowling has been tight whenever he has been brought on, and secondly an easy series vs a weak team like the WI is custom built for newer players to be tried.

Instead Misbah ul Haq was more than content to give Zulkifkli 20+ overs and a meager 2 overs to Nawaz who was brought in as the bowling allrounder.

Even in the past Misbah had shown patterns of shunning youngsters for more 'experienced' campaigners e.g. Younis Khan coming back multiple times in his tenure which the selectors are to blame for as well, and failing to groom a future ODI captain then hastily recommending Azhar. Clearly recommending his friends.

This isn't normal and Mickey and Inzi should ask him some serious questions and hold an inquiry.

I don't think Misbah has the intention to ruin the future of youngsters, he focuses on the present and comes from a school of thought where he values experience above everything else. However, he has his favourites but the PCB are responsible for the future of our cricket. Not everyone has the authority of an Imran Khan where we can pin point the root of each problem on one man.

There is no doubt though, while Misbah has acheived so much for Pakistan and has his own style when it comes to captaincy that remains one of the negatives with regards to how he utilises youth.

Hafeez got banned from bowling so management decided to get in Haris as all rounder. You forgot to mention he also wasted his two years from 2013 to 2015. Azhar Ali has been a poor Odi captain. And how did he revive career of Hafeez? He was already in the team from 2010. Misbah was just a decent ODI batsman. A very good Test Batsman and good captain for test matches. His selections and policies are atrocious at times.

I remember Haris coming in to bat at around 7-8 under Misbah's captaincy, just because he was a newcomer. If i'm not mistaken, it was during the West Indies tour.

Selectors give Misbah the pool of players to pick from and he will always pick Abdur Rehman or Zulfi or any other past the sell by date player.

He's got away with it in tests but we have suffered in ODIs. He either does not care about the future of the team or is incompetent. I think he is incompetent and doesn't realise the significance of his decisions.

Im not even talking about selection here. Choosing to give Nawaz such few overs clearly has nothing to do with selectors or management or groundsman. It is on Misbah.

In that particular series he played malik over Hammad Azam who was originally picked as the all rounder. Even after being 3-0 down, he still preferred his buddies for the last odi where realistically Hammad Azam should have been given the dead rubber.
Malik made it back to the squad time after time in misbahs tenure after failing each time. Hafeez only had to get one 50+ score in a 5 match series to keep his place and all these guys were assured of their places hence the consistency in their performance wasn't there as they knew were sure picks in the starting 11.
The Asia cup we won due to Sarfaraz and Aizaz Cheema was a silverware after a long time. But guess what, they were both dropped for the next series and Cheema hasn't played for Pak ever since.
There are so many other examples I can come up with but I don't wanna be here all night.
To conclude, misbahs concern is and has always been the present. We could have had a genuine all rounder by now. Thanks to Mickey Arthur and Inzimam for the latest upcoming potential all rounders.

100% right..u forget to mention going with adnan akmal in odi,discarding m.talha.giving chance after cchance to sohail tanvir in odi....what can i say he is responsible for sohaib downfall as well...from number 3 to number 6...playing umar amin at 7..

Stand by my original post but I think we also forget easily how he took Shafiq and Azhar under his wing, one of those names has established himself as a force to reckon with at the Test level and is our best bat whom is our batting spearhead, Shafiq is inconsistent but in an ideal situation after the big investments in him we'd have hoped he would be more consistent although he has performed well sporadically played some truly sensational knocks.
