I love Saeed Anwar and he will always be one of the greatest batsmen to have played the game, but hear me out; look at Zaheer Abbas' record. 7 hundreds in JUST 60 innings, an average of almost 48. Yes, FORTY EIGHT. But what is most unbelievable is that Strike-Rate of 85.

These numbers are ATG level numbers for anyone playing in any century but the mere fact that he did so brilliantly in the 70's and 80's, the era of bowlers dominating the game like none other with extremely long boundaries, bowler friendly rules and no DRS or anything like that. To have an SR of 85 largely playing your cricket away from home in England and Australia is ATG status for me.

His prowess in Tests is well known, the Asian Bradman, possibly the greatest Asian Test batsman but how good are those ODI numbers!

Yes. Zaheer Abbas was the best bat produced by Pakistan in Odis.

Played just 60 ODI innings. A very small sample size. I'd pick Saeed Anwar ahead of him.

Goodness!!! Are you serious?

Javed and then Saeed for me. I never got to see Zaheer play live but I think he played in far less games...

He averaged 33 in Australia with a strike rate of 63.

The Era Zaheer Played in, these are astounding numbers. His Contemporary Sunil Gavaskar might provide a good comparison. He only played 60 innings but very few Odi's were played back then.

Consider the era he played in my friend. He wasn't called Asian Bradman for no reason.

Tests didn't change much between the 70s and the 90s. Viv, Gavaskar, Chappell etc played in the same era and scored heavily. He averages 40 in Australia, 28 in India, 19 in New Zealand and 21 in the West Indies. Coupled with his problems against pace, you would be hard pressed to call him an ATG, let alone put him ahead of Gavaskar, Dravid, Sachin, Sangakkara, Miandad etc.

In ODIs, he's probably just behind Anwar.

Well no.1 should be Saeed Anwar,

Then a tie between MoYo and Zaheer Abbas for me

So? Sunny Gavaskar played in the same era and way a far, far, far superior Test batsman. Miandad too was superior than him. Best Test batsman from Asia? Excuse me :)))

Babar will end up our greatest batsman in all formats. But man it always astonishes me, having an average of 48 while striking at 85 in that era! That’s hard to do in today’s era which is dominated by batsman, but do it in the 70s and 80s is just insane.

For me Saeed Anwar and Zaheer Abbas have always been the best batsman we’ve produced in ODI’s. But Babar will soon be our best player in white ball cricket ever by far Insha’Allah.

Inzamam is the best ODI batsman from Pakistan. He has the most runs and also has a lot of match winning knocks.
