Personally, I feel that Waqar is more capable as a coach and has better thought processes about cricketers.

Even his Islamabad United is what a modern T20 team should be, which is having plenty of all-rounders that are capable hitters and literally no tail.

On the other hand Wasim has gone for specialists and the team literally has a tail at 5 down considering that Saif Badar is probably at this moment mentally gone (he dropped McCullum so probably feels the weight of the world on his shoulders atm)

Waqar gets a lot of slack and he's dubbed as "daihaati" and what not but in terms of game plan, and regardless of the end, I think he is owning Wasim bhais selection. Add to that Wasim had a chance to pick a domestic player and he picked Shan Masood and then played Shehzad ten straight games with absolutely nothing to show for.

Thoughts?

Waqar is the better bowling coach. Wasim manages players better. Both are terrible at identifying talent unless it's obvious.

Waqar is a failed coach at international level as he lacked tactical nous and man management skills. He inherited an IU team with a good recruitment policy - which is partly down to their analysts who make extensive use of data.

However he probably beats out Wasim Akram who hasn't coached much outside T20 leagues.

Wasim Akram is the same guy who backs Shehzad but doesn’t see anything special in Haris Sohail.

Waqar >> Wasim

Waqar is a better coach. Wasim's opinion changes after every game :asif

I mean case in point are the team selections that Akram not only made but defended.

Sohail Tanvir
Umar Gul
Muhammad Irfan
Ahmed Shahzad

Both were fantastic PLAYERS....

True that but they have 0 clue about cricket talent. I mean look at Wasim - how on earth can you open with Ahmed blocker Shezad in a T20 game.

Also they always talk about getting runs on the board in an ODI GAME. The score they mention is 250ish... come on.

Waqar seems more involved with the players which gives him a big plus. On his twitter feed, Shaheen Afridi thanked Waqar first after that 4/5 spell.

Lock you wrist vs run circles in ground.

In all seriousness, talented players may not be very good coach. Many things may come naturally to them and they may find it hard to teach others. I am just commenting on their primary skills and coaching the same skill.

Wasim is the better man manager as evidenced by his captaincy and coaching career with Islamabad United and Kolkata Knight Riders

A team of Ahmed Shehzad, Umar Akmal, Sohaib Maqsood and Shahid Afridi seem to have a great chance of winning you matches.

Add on top of that an aged Younis Khan and a declining Misbah and you have the perfect recipe to be either ying or yang.

It was also an era when Mohammad Irfan was your best pacer, and Wahab Riaz won you matches with all round performances... in world tournaments.

Waq younis was more a product of hard work than talent, which is why he emphasized on other players working hard as well. Ofcourse the culture in the team was such nobody wanted to work hard and just coastt on 'talent'

Different caliber different style, some time something works and some time not. Start of Multan sultan is ideal but they fail later on.

Islamabad United is not doing well at earlier but click later on.

Personally thinks Wasim made a good team apart from some questions of the age factor and 1 or 2 players along with their team selection.

Loosing against LQ's let them down.

Selection of IU is wonderful and they don't need to do something really special in the end. Even though Rumman is injured their team is perfectly balanced and their players are in good shape.

Both are good with their theories.
