Lahore, 6 June 2020:

Pakistan Cricket Board Chief Executive Wasim Khan today announced that over the next three months he will personally donate a total of PKR1.5million to support former players, match officials, scorers and ground staff who are struggling through financial hardships.

Wasim took the voluntary decision to make this donation as a way of giving back to the game’s key stakeholders at a time when there was a greater need.

Wasim Khan said: “I have decided to personally make this donation to help those players, match officials, scorers and ground staff who are in dire need of financial assistance.

“This small contribution is to support the Chairman’s Welfare Fund that is already in place and to show solidarity with him as we look to provide as much support to the players, match officials, scorers and ground staff facing hardships in these tough economic times.

“As head of the executive team, I also think it is appropriate that I take a personal lead with this and it’s a decision that feels absolutely right to me.

“After past culture of all PCB staff receiving substantial annual incremental increases, we have made a decision to tighten our expenditure over the next 12 months and only award increases to staffers who earn PKR100,000 a month or less. This will commence from the new fiscal year, which starts on 1 July.”

PCB Chairman Ehsan Mani said: “I appreciate Wasim Khan’s gesture and commend him for leading by example. Wasim’s actions show that he is not only a good leader, but one who thinks and cares about the wellbeing of past and present players and other stakeholders.

“Wasim has consistently shown his commitment to Pakistan cricket and this is another example of his contribution and leadership.

“I am sure that Wasim’s generosity will help cricketers in need in these difficult times.”

Good gesture but whats the point of making private donations public? People may well ask that Wasim should have donated more given his paycheck etc.

Donations should remain private.

This is basically to silence the "NOISE" in the media who are constantly worried about the high salary paid to the CEO, in every interview/ sports show one or the JOURNALIST will either point out how the PCB is wasting it's financial resources by paying out that HUGE salary or would suggest that the CEO take a pay-cut of a certain percentage instead of firing the bottom ranked employees.

With this act/donation Wasim Khan has basically played to the gallery, at the end he has learnt how to survive the Pakistani media.

P.S.
Even Shakeel Sheik has specifically pointed out the salary of the CEO in response to the PCB's claim of Shakil Sheik being involved in a fraud/over spending Rs 14.4 million.

Agree completely, especially when the donation isn't exactly ground-breaking. I mean that's what £7,200ish? Nice enough but that's not in my view enough to warrant a press statement.

The greatest philanthropists never scream and shout about themselves.

The sensible thing to do would have been to talk in percentage terms of his salary.

By disclosing an exact amount all they have done is create news about how small or less this amount is.

THATS WHAT I CALL A LEADER THAT IS LEADING BY EXAMPLE.

What a great gesture this man has made.
This is to silence all his haters.

All his haters that are going to say he should have donated more, how about u donate even a penny and then we will talk. LOL.

This just shows that money isnt everything for him unlike previous leaders in PCB who were always drooling for money. Also HATERS, y'all dont know how much he makes a yr. So stop assuming that he make a million dollars a yr.

May Allah SWT accept this donation and great gesture that Wasim Khan took and made. AMEEN

Your absolutely spot on brother. Every interview this man goes to they ask him how much he makes or they talk about his salary or his benefits. Like if he really wanted to make three times of what he makes currently, he would have stayed in England and became a CEO and get way more benefits and three times the salary.

Shakeel Shaikh is a liar and makes up stories about the PCB. He is the most corrupt guy I ever seen. You could see for yourself, as recently PCB is questioning him of taking and spending so much money of PCB for himself. Inshaallah PCB WILL WIN THE CASE AGAINST HIM.

The greatest philanthropists never scream and shout about themselves.

First of all that is £8,136, so please have facts before writing a post.
Now tell me if you ever made a donation that big enough. It's not the amount that matters over here, what I'm saying is that he did it through his heart and is helping the low profile people. In Pakistan that is alot of money.
You cant convert a donation money and say "that is not alot". LOL

Tell me if any of the previous chairman or executives did something like this.

Wasim Khan did this bc to show the haters that he is not money hungry like they are.

Have a feeling that you dont quite understand the concept of charitable donations.

They are:

1. Done for the purpose of actually helping people.
2. Not done to show off.

These are 2 key concepts of a charitable donation and something which our religion also encourages us to do.

The normal practice for organizations when making charitable donations is to pledge an "undisclosed" amount OR its said that the organization or the person doing it will put away x% of his salary etc.

NO one needs to know how much.

The very people you dont like have now been given ammunition to wonder if the amount was big enough or not.

No one is doubting Wasim Khan's intentions but the manner in which this has been done is not ideal.

Philanthropy should ideally be private. I remember during Imran Khan SK hospital telethon, an anonymous caller from UAE donated $1,000,000 under the condition that his identity remained confidential.

The sensible thing to do would have been to talk in percentage terms of his salary.

By disclosing an exact amount all they have done is create news about how small or less this amount is.

LOL!!!!!
If he disclosed a percentage, people would have assumed that he makes lots of money and then took a percentage of that " lots of money" and report that fake news. If they did it the the way ur saying, or the way they did it people would have still criticized it both ways. Pak media is always reporting fake news and spicing up a story by reporting fake facts

HATERS ARE NEVER HAPPY OF THE SUCCESS OF OTHERS AND ARE NEVER SATISFIED

So i don't know what your trying to say.Wasim khan did this because he has a heart and cares and not bc he is forced to do it.
You do know that big corporations and big businessman make donations public. The reason why is bc others can emulate the work u did and its shows to the public that u care and ur helping as well.

The media and Shakeel "Corrupt" Shaikh make up lies just to make a bad image of Wasim Khan. They are jealous of the success of Wasim Khan. No one knows how much Wasim makes and no one will ever know. That is his privacy which Pakistanis are always trying to know. Y'all need to mind your own business. If Wasim Khan wanted to make more money and have lots more benefits and also live a happy life, he would have stayed in England and became a CEO of ECB and made three times the salary that he currently makes and have more benefits. He chose to come here bc he wants to make a difference. He clearly is making a difference by helping the low class employees, but all that people care about is salary and make things up. Shakeel Shaikh should worry about his own problems being corrupt and judging others. LOL.

You know what they say successful people will always have some people that judge every decision they make.

Wasim Khan is making a stronger case of being the GOAT (Grearest of All Time) as a CEO of Pakistan.
Inshallah there will be more successful decisions from him and he will make Pakistan cricket number 1.

If he didn’t make it public, people would say he doesn’t care about his workers

And now that he did make it public, people are saying it’s not right to tell everyone

I’m sorry but no one keeps donations private these days, from small charities to large foundations

Why should WK hide the fact that he’s concerned about his employees to silence the haters?

What ur saying is that they should have did a percentage of his salary, that would have been worse bc people would be like "he only did that much" or they would have made up a number of his salary and there would be controversies. Which ever route they would have taken, ignorant people would still criticize him.

Since u brought religion in to this. In Islam ur not suppose to show off, which there not their just reporting to the media that they are helping people. There is nothing wrong in which they reported this. Reporting a percent or reporting an exact is similar. In fact in Islam, when u are donating, there should be less of a confusion. People should forget about how much he makes and just thank him for doing this and make dua for him

Wasim Khan is not bragging whatsoever. And you can see that. He has done many charitable events and led numerous of them so he knows. Another thing is that other boards do the same thing.

This will be a good example and a legacy left for other employees to follow and incoming employees to follow.

TBH I would have not even reported it. I would have just done it privately But Pakistan media wants to know everything and in the future they will find out and make controversies and then they will be criticism towards Wasim Khan. Also in the history of Pakistan Cricket, your own employees that lose a job would forget the donation and backstab you.

May Allah SWT accept this donation from him. AMEEN

Whichever route they would have taken people would have came up with lame statements and criticized him.
The haters need to know and be silenced. Clearly no other board has helped this many employees and no executive has stepped up to the plate and made a personal donation. The media and Corrupt people like Shakeel Shaikh just care about his salary. The media should report a positive thing about Wasim Khan. But watch how they are going to twist this media release by PCB and report something negative about PCB and Wasim Khan

I always said this that every successful person has someone that is always judging every move they make.

PCB COO Barrister Salman Naseer to contribute PKR500,000 to the welfare fund.

Salman Naseer said: “This is a small contribution to the organisation which has played a monumental role in shaping who I am today. I hope and pray these difficult times will end soon."

PCB has a deep history of being brutally targeted by journalists, ex cricketers who don't get any favors from them

Good gesture but whats the point of making private donations public? People may well ask that Wasim should have donated more given his paycheck etc.

Donations should remain private.

Sometimes the point of making a large donation public is to make apparent to others that are just as or more fortunate that there is a social responsibility and give them a gentle nudge to donate as well. He gave what he gave. We should applaud what he did and join him in donating if possible rather then being detractors in a time of crisis or putting him down for the amount he donated. Good gestures need to be lauded not derided especially in times of crisis.

A donation is not meant for the public - its meant for the people who its meant for.

No Muslim I know publicizes how much he has given to a person - its simply not done.

Wasim Khan's done a good thing but this is not the way to publicize it. He recently fired people then reinstated them - that in itself is very noble and needs to be appreciated.

If we are worried about what people will say if it was undisclosed then the answer to them would be simply its not their business.

High time, the PCB needs to be free from these corrupt individuals and the guys who leaks confidential information to the media, PCB has suffered a lot it's time to rise now.

Yeah a donation needs to be publicized in a business bc it will have other colleagues follow your lead and it will leave a legacy too. Many donations in US are publicized to the public and if they wish to be named they can and if they dont they wont be. My point is that if one of your friend or family member sees your name they are going to follow. As you can see the COO Salman Naseer followed and donated that is called a leader that is being followed by his colleagues.

Let's not judge who is a muslim and who is not. Let's leave that to Allah SWT. If a Muslim donates then we should make dua and wish him success.

The problem is that people cant mind their business. Especially people in Pakistan media. An example is Shakeel Shaikh who makes lies up, and always starting problems.

You know and I know that people are ignorant and the ones that are haters they will always come with lame statements. If they didnt disclose people would criticize them, now they did and people are criticizing them. Like come bro make up your minds.

How about we just appreciate what he did and pray for his success and continue to be successful. He clearly did a good job bc Salman Naseer followed.

The right thing to do after PCB announced that Wasim Khan donated was too:
1. Appreciate and acknowledge what he did and wish him success
2. Hope that others follow

Not criticizing how they publicized it or how much they donated. I've been reading some messages and the state of mind of such people is SAD.

The exchange rate shown on Google right now is 207.05 rupees to the pound. So 1.5 million rupees is £7,245. Which is why I said £7,200ish.

In any case it doesn't matter whether it's £7,000 or £8,000. You also don't know me, so please refrain from commenting on what I do or do note donate. Whatever I do, I certainly don't go round shouting to the world about it. And that is the point. If you're going to donate, do so privately. I don't believe anyone should be releasing media statements about the amount of their donation, particularly when the amount, whilst nice, is not so big so as to warrant a public statement. I appreciate it's a much bigger sum in Pakistan, but even still it's not at a scale which deserves it's own statement.

I have a lot of respect for Wasim Khan and I think he is a fantastic addition to Pakistani cricket. I also applaud him from making a charitable donation. I just wish the way he went about it would have been a bit different. Even if his intention in making the public statement was to encourage others to donate, he should have done so without mentioning the amount.

$9000 may be nothing to us in the west but 1.5 million PKR is a lot in Pakistan and he's doing his part.

Also, just not agreeing with how the donation announcement does not make someone a Wasim Khan "hater".

Also, just not agreeing with how the donation announcement does not make someone a Wasim Khan "hater".

Celebrities make donation announcements all the time, let's not single out Wasim Khan for the sake of it

but but but he took this role to get a fat paycheck and nothing else. Anyone who lives a decent life in the west would not give it up to be trashed like how Wasim Khan has been since he took this role. Pakistanis are literally dumb and have no idea that Wasim had guaranteed monetary success living in England with a much more stable lifestyle and peace of mind.

No problem with the donation, but PCB should not feel the need to respond every time some journo questions their intentions.

Wasim Khan under fire from some sections of media for expenses in his name.

Seems his good deeds not being highlighted.
