Wasting Tests on Mohammad Hafeez, opening with Fakhar Zaman in SA - Where is the planning?

Hafeez was brought back for the NZ/Aus Tests in UAE though the whole world knew he will not play in SA.

Fakhar opened the batting in the first 3 innings here despite clearly struggling, didn't get a score in the practice match either. Technique looks nowhere near adequate for an opener in such conditions.

Imam is opening and has clearly been struggling for a while recently.

What exactly was the plan for this series?

The only opener in the last couple of years who actually managed to see out the new ball quite often was Azhar and he is batting at #3 or 4 now.

Inzi has been horrible. The blame goes to him why select hafeez again after 1 performance in domestic. Selection has been atrocious.

The question should be how much room do we give a coach or management to experiment. I just think we are a very impatient lot.

We dont have quality openers yet the one we had azhar pretty much doesnt open and hogs a middle order spot. Then we have imam picked probably based on some family promise inzis made. Theres never logic or planning on our batting and it wont change after this series.

I think the only sin there is about playing hafeez when they knew he wasn’t going to SA. But the selectors flinched because he score a double century in domestics and the usual journalists started talking about the unfairness of it all.

I think it was wrong to move Azhar from the opening slot.

Can't be that Inzi is constantly forcing players onto the team. At some level, there has to be some communication and understanding between the selectors and the coach and captain.... If not, there should be.

Shot that fakhar zaman played is awful. He struggles in slow and pitches, fast and bouncy pitches, then where will he score
