"We are one, we are united, we are all Pakistanis, we all care about each other" : Mohammad Hafeez

Mohammad Hafeez speaking to the media today

Obviously as a team we are looking forward to and preparing for our next challenge

Today (in training) the attitude was really good from all players

Yes, for the last couple of days, all of us were very disappointed and all felt pain as our current journey in the World Cup hasnt been that great and as team we have not been able to play well

After that a lot of stuff was discussed in the media and we got to hear about things that caused us a lot of pain

My sympathies for all the players whose families were targeted due to their performances in cricket
I feel that such things should not happen

Whether we win or lose, we are all together as a country and a nation and we should use nice words about each other

You don’t prepare yourself for defeat

All of us have worked very hard and the players have given their 100% in all practice sessions so far
Results haven’t been that good and as a team, collectively, we have not played good cricket

There have been good performances in parts, so someone has bowled well in some spells, someone has batted well but you only win when you perform well as a team

We haven’t played well and the responsibility for that is with all players and supporting staff

First of all it was a team decision – talking about it after the match is easy

As a player, I own the decision of team management and they took the right decision based upon conditions

We didn’t bowl well and capitalize on that decision, we didn’t bowl well and put them under pressure

In my view, toss should not be discussed so much, no one makes decisions after reading Tweets

No one asks for advice and then change their point of view like that

The captain and team management too the best decision they could and we as a team did not perform well

When we all take responsibility and be accountable then the Pakistan team will move forward

Obviously seeing ourselves at the bottom of the table gives us a lot of pain

If you look at the history of Pakistan teams, we have always come up after being down

I have full trust in my teammates that we will play our best game and avail ourselves of whatever opportunity we get

India-Pakistan cricket game is one where there is a lot of involvement of people’s emotions

As a Pakistani, I am as saddened by defeat like any other Pakistani would be

We have to accept this defeat and have to improve on things and not to criticize in a way that will break us down

We still have a chance in this tournament, and this is why our guys are here

The body language of all players is very positive; What has happened has happened

In the last 2 days that we got off, we sat down and discussed matters between ourselves and helped out each other

Results are still not in our hands but are effort is 100%

What I have seen in my 16-17 years career for Pakistan is that whenever we lose, I don’t know why and where such news things come out [talking about groupings]

We are one, we are Pakistani, and we have come here to represent our country

All the players care for each other and there is no issue which seems to only come out when we lose – how come this doesn’t come out after a win?

When we won against England, then no such stuff came to the fore

When we lost to India, then we have talk of groups – all these are useless matters and we are discussing non-issues

The main cricketing issue is that we have not played good cricket so far in the World Cup

We are just looking to win the next game and not thinking too far ahead – we aren’t thinking that we have to win four games in a row, all we care about now is that we have win the match against South Africa

What we have seen is that we have lost matches despite hundreds

But we won the game against England without hundreds

You will see less of individual brilliance – you have to play well as a team

The concept of "groupings" is quite silly in this day and age. Only deluded Pakistani fans use this as an excuse. Tired of reading this nonsense from this toxic community

Wow wonder MMHS words might come true and he is made the captain now..

Hopefully the last interview in Pakistan color for Prof. Enough with his covalent bond theories

The point is this - either some of you are not giving 100%, or you are simply not good enough to play at this level and should not be in the team. How can you say we are giving 100% in effort and practice, but we keep on losing and repeatedly making the same mistakes again and again , and not showing any sign of improvement - then clearly something is wrong isn’t it?

You can’t work in the corporate world, deliver work of poor quality consistently, show an inability to learn new skills, show no progress or improvement, and yet still expect you should keep your job because apparently you are giving 100%?

They're just not good enough.

We've seen this one too many times.

Bhai they are all saazishi conspirasists remember hafeez dismissal in Mohali 2011 should have axed permanently had he been in Aus or Nz or his performance in CT13 should have been discarded forever

His words are akin to those of Dick Fuld, and anyone who is covering the cracks with mere words, is inadvertently admitting there is a problem. Plus I think Hafeez thinks the fans are blind. The body language and lack of intent give everything away.

Ok fine but no amount of goodwill and discussion and positive feelings is going to make a player averaging 13 play like dhoni suddenly. Neither will it make a guy who performs once every five games perform every second game.
Not angry with him, but its apparent to anyone that a squad full of mediocre seniors wont magically provide dominant consistency.

I'm sure they are giving 100% in practice. The problem is that they are not good enough. Senior pros like Hafeez and Malik need to retire asap post-WC.

There is no grouping why can’t people just admit we’re not skilled enough to compete with top teams end of

Desperate words coming out of a man playing his last four games.

You can prepare all you want and display all the patriotism in the world, but when you're light years behind other teams, you'll lose far more games than you will win.

I've noticed over the years that a lot of Pakistani fans try to find a pattern or correlation between Pakistan team and poor performances. When they loose to other sides, usual talking points like fixing, 'group-bandi', yada yada yada are repeated so many times that the majority sub-consciously start to subscribe to such rationales.

This team is simply not good enough to compete against the majority of other teams and it has no relevance if their are groups in the teams or they are all united.

There is no smoke without fire. Don't think anyone would be deliberately under performing or letting down the team management but there is no doubt Sarfaraz gave the players a piece of his mind after the last game.

I thought this was Teresa May talking about Brexit and the Tory Party.

Question Hafeez's spot in the team all you want - that doesn't change the fact that what he is saying is bang on.

Our media and a section of our fan base are absolutely toxic and the biggest problem with Pakistani cricket.

After the England match it was all songs and happiness on our horrendous news channels.

After the defeat to India we started seeing pathetic ZEE TV drama like graphics and random clips of leaked audio "sauces"

Pathetic

Words mean nothing now, actions on the field of play is all the talk we need.

However I feel the Proffesor was being genuine, he is hurt and so is the team. Hafeez has been playing well so wont be surprised to see him with a match winning performance on Sunday.

Yes Pak fans are not happy atm but as a fan you have to support your team and continue to demand the best.

Yeah he is right. They are all a bunch of losers not only one or two of them.

In theory - it is a good idea for your senior most player to say something positive to allay anger in the fandom.

This reminds me of what happened with the Indian team in the 2003 World Cup. India suffered an ignominious defeat to Australia by getting shot out for 125 and losing by 9 wickets. Forget about what Pakistan is facing now - some of the Indian players' houses got attacked and there was a terrible backlash in the media and the people in general.

The whole Indian team was very nervous and they all came into a huddle and requested Sachin Tendulkar to issue a public statement requesting calm and support.

Now here's the catch - the statement worked because India won the next 8 matches and lost only in the finals.

Tendulkar became the highest scorer in the World Cup and the knock of 98 against Pakistan basically ended any anger by the fans against the team.

Hafeez is like Tendulkar - I mean - in terms of seniority in the team and his statement as I wrote above in theory is a good idea.

The issue here is does Hafeez have the stature of a Tendulkar amongst the Pakistani awaam and also can he pile up some important runs which may push Pakistan into the knock out stages.

Let's see.

There is a good group of core players here who will build...or rather, CAN build a very strong ODI side for the future but there are serious questions that need to be asked -

1. Why has Hasan Ali regressed so drastically?
2. Why has Shadab's once remarkable start slowed so thoroughly?
3. Why is the team persisting with Shoaib Malik who clearly seems to be on the field for a pay check and nothing else?
4. Are Arthur and Sarfraz deserving of their positions within Pakistan cricket?

Address these questions, bring back the Hasan Ali of 2016/17, progress Shadab and build a team around Babar, Imam, Fakhar, Amir and the younger guys and finally get ride of Hafeez and Malik.

Hafeez should go into politics now is the time he is already speaking like one.
