Pakistan captain speaking after end of 1st Test:

"It was a great team effort as you can see batting was very difficult here"

"It was a good knock by Imam-ul-Haq and Babar Azam"

"We dropped a few catches but if we had taken them [then we would have chased less]" : SA

"Kevin O'Brien and Thompson batted really well and that's why Ireland managed to take lead to 160"

"I would like to give credit to my batsmen and bowlers, especially the way Imam-ul-Haq and Babar Azam played it shows that they have great potential"

"We have to back Imam-ul-Haq and Babar Azam as they will be great players in the future"

"Yes, we needed this sort of a stand out performance and we are ready for England and will do well against them"

"Yes, we were worried when we were 14/3 but we were confident that we are a good batting side"

"The way Imam and Babr played shows their character and confidence"

"This gives great confidence to them and to the team for the next 2 Test matches as well"

"We were very impressed (with him) when we selected Imam-ul-Haq"

"We decided on enforcing the Follow-On as we knew it would be difficult to bat in the 4th innings"

"But, we are a confident and young side with 2 debutante players, and we were confident that we could chase any target"

"The way Imam and Azam batted is a good thing for Pakistan as it shows we can chase target on 5th Day"

"Azhar Ali and Asad Shafiq are our main players and I am very confident that they will play well, whenever the teams needs their help"

"Conditions in Ireland are very tough and we knew they [Ireland] will come very hard at us"

"Congratulations to the Ireland Test team on playing their 1st Test match and hopefully more matches will come for them in the future"

"This match victory will help us in the upcoming Test series against England"

"If Ireland are willing to come to Pakistan, we are definitely ready to welcome them there"

"We are very impressed about Faheem's performance; He came to the Pakistan side in the T20 version and its good to see that he is also capable of playing the longer version of the game"

"We need a bowling all-rounder in the team and the way he [Faheem] batted and bowled, as a captain I am confident that he will do more for the team in the future"

what about yourself? can you justify your selection in test team?

Tbf his confidence is really good, his team does deliver a lot of the times barring few.

Play Fakhar for Faheem and Hasan for Rahat. Rana jee is love but we need Fakhar to be a game changer.

Sarfraz has been Rashid Latif level bad with his batting since he became captain. Though, Latif was 3 times better as a keeper.

Rashid Latif is the best Wicket Keeper we ever produced without a doubt

yeah, how about yourself scoring a few runs for a change?

When was the last time Sarfraz contributed significantly with the bat?

We would be ready only if you're not keeping, not captaining and and batting with some contribution of runs.

Sadly you've become a liability.

Sarfaraz really needs to improve his test match captaincy along with his fitness and should lead from the front.

I am sure he can

"We have to back Imam-ul-Haq and Babar Azam as they will be great players in the future"

One reason i like this guy, always the first one to back youngsters. In just 1 year we have tried so many youngsters in 3 formats and almost all of them are performing well.

Not like your typical Pakistani either going for 'experience' or the usual change this, change that etc etc.

I like the continuity policy. Just give the kids some time, they will come good. This is the best lot we have and we need to back them.

There are three statements you hear from Pakistani post-match conferences refgardless of the match outcome.

1) “We are/were really confident in our ability and back our players to do well.”

2) “InshaAllah, MashaAllah, thanks to Almighty, we performed well”.

3) “The boys played well and despite a few problems, we are ready to beat XYZ!”

And they never mean ANY of it except #2.

why are you hating RANA JEE. He's my favourite player after HASSAN ALI and the only reason I watch test matches as well as shaddy and sarfraz [for entertainment purpose]. just get rid of azhar and bring in fakhar.

Uhmm no not with Sarfaraz. He actually plays and backs the youngsters.

I really hope so

If we bat like we did in this test match then there is no way we will be winning against England. Their bowling attack is much superior to the Irish.

I really hope we can keep the streak going, under Misbah's tenure we never lost a test series to England in the past 8 years (after 2010). Let's keep the streak ALIVE!

The game against Ireland is a classic no-win for Pakistan fans

We won - well that was expected
We lost - wow we cant even win against Ireland!

Just learn to be happy for your team folks!

Sarfaraz Ahmed speaking about playing at Lords:

"It is a great feeling to play at Lords as it is the home of cricket"
"Best crowd I have ever seen in cricket"
"My best memory is we won Test on last tour and also I scored century in ODI"

Not worth his place his side at moment with gloves or the bat, needs to actually start contributing the teams cause especially with being the captains as well.
