We ask for balance between bat and ball so why do we complain when we watch low-scoring thrillers?

Don't get me wrong - I am the stereotypical modern day fan who likes big hitting and fasting on flat/dead pitches but it is nice to see a low scoring game once in a while like the Qalandars vs. Zalmi today.

Many people ask for better pitches that have balance between bat and ball so why are we complaining when presented with a slow/low pitch that assists the spinners? For one - atleast we can filter out the batsman who are good against spin e.g. Fakhar Zaman.

Imo it should be:

1/3 Low-scoring games
1/3 Average scoring games
1/3 High-scoring games

This would make the tournament great.

I would saw anything less than 150 is a low scoring T20 game.
150-200 is an average scoring T20 game.
200+ is a high scoring T20 game.

I thoroughly enjoyed today's match. I would take such matches any day over 200+ slog fests.

I loved this match, quite honestly I would prefer these low scoring thrillers instead of one sided matches when one team scores 200+

Been very exciting PSL so far. Close games and some very close.
Pitch wasn't the best today but still a 130-140 pitch. Lahore went ultra attacking which cost them and then we saw masterclass aggressive captaincy by Mcullum. Showed how dangerous Yasir Shah can be in limited overs if used as attacking option.

And barring todays pitch rest not been as bad. Their been some good bowling and poor batting. Same pitches Rossouw showed how its done where Karachi top order were bundeled over.
Exciting so far. Hoping pitches are touch better then todays but last 2 days pitches were good so can't complain by just today.
Teams have good bowlers and they deserve credit too. With only 5 teams in the PSL the best possible Pakistani players are selected which makes it very competitive. Any of these 5 teams can win the PSL. All depends who as a team gels together well and click at the right time.

The only problem with this utopian condition is, we can't change nature of pitch at our whims. If it's a slow pitch then don't expect any high scoring thriller and with limited venues at disposal, such apotheosis become even more ludicrous. UAE is worst place in the world to play cricket and nature of pitches is like stater molar refusing to vary.

So make it like this:

Dubai: bowling pitch
Abu Dhabi: balanced pitch
Sharjah: batting pitch

came here to say that.

had narine not made a hash out of that morgan catch, peshawar could have been all-out for possibly the lowest score of all time. i would have laughed my guts off if that had happened. sigh

I think, it was a decent wicket with something for the bowlers, poor batting, good bowling, great catching & outstanding Captaincy from both sides. Also, couple of tight calls going in favor of LQ made it tighter.

Same context - Afridi & Azhar leading the sides, we might have seen a game as dull as LQ limping to 125 from tail slog & PZ chasing it in 19th overs mostly from free singles.

Had Yasir got that LBW in his favor, he could have defended 59 today, which indicates what a quality leggi can do under proper leadership in this "Modern" era of spin play.

Agreed. That drop cost Lahore in the end.

Because going the other extreme is not called balance.

Was it just poor shot selection from both sides?

Actually, Morgan in his interview said it was a tired pitch that was two paced, so not that easy to bat on. In the end, probably a combination of the pitch and the over-aggressive approach of LQ that caused the below par score. But it was also that aggression and pressure in the field (with a couple of poor decisions by Dar) that made it difficult to chase.

Why does it have to be one extreme over another

On a patta even 200+ matches are thrillers which go to last ball

The best thing about the game was Yasir Shah's celebrations... those were thoroughly enjoyable, nice to see him running around the ground like that after getting wickets

Who is complaining? From the posts and threads all Pak posters seem to be enjoying the low scoring thrillers.

Too bad the crowd wouldn't. Maybe a few cricket fans appreciate good bowling but most of us love to see the ball being dispatched to the crowds twice or thrice every over because we're paying good money to watch cricket, not bore-fests of Ahmed Shehzad and Asad Shafiq opening the innings with three leaves every over. :)

However, personally, I'd take anything that has a close contest.

Who's complaining was hilarious, two sides struggling to get 60 runs :))). The pressure of playing in that match must have been immense.

It would be nice to see a low scoring match or bowlers taking wickets but at the same time we want from batsman to resist good bowling and spent some time on the wicket too.
