Haris Sohail at a press conference:

"Our plan is simple, we are looking at the games from match to match. Afghanistan have quality spinners, we have seen their videos and done some work and hopefully we'll play some good cricket and the results will be good"

"I was in good form during the Australia series, I have a slightly different role in the World Cup. If you're batting at 4 or 5, your basics should be simple. The requirement and situation dictates how you should play and that's what I try to do"

"Whenever I have played, I haven't ever been out of the team due to my performances. I struggled for a while due to a bad surgery but now I have that under control. I'll try to ensure such things don't happen again in future"

"When we play for Pakistan, our aim is to do what's better for the country. The team combination decides the make up of the team based on what they see is right, whenever I get a chance, I give my 100% and try to keep things simple and prepare well before the match"

"I am trying to play according to the situation and succeeding with that"

"When you're losing matches in a tournament like this then a win like the one at Lord's is very important. When I went in to bat at Lord's, my focus was on building a partnership with Babar. When that happened then I started feeling things were easing out so I told Babar that I'm going to bat a little aggressively now and thankfully I was successful in that"

"Afghanistan can't be taken lightly, they have a good team with good spinners and we're well prepared to face them"

"After the first match, of course you have a bit of doubt as a sportsman but my belief was that whatever was happening was better for the team. I wasn't thinking about not being given a chance, my focus was on giving my 100% whenever I do get a chance"

"We players don't know much about things that happen between the boards, we can only fight on the ground during the match. We will try and get a good result"

"If we start thinking about being compared to Yousuf bhai, Younis bhai or Misbah bhai, the pressure increases. So we just try to keep things simple. Babar and I will try to perform even better in the upcoming games"

"Every match has a different type of pressure. In World Cup matches, all matches have the same type of pressure. No doubt Afghanistan beat us in the warmup but we'll try to play good cricket and beat them tomorrow"

"We don't have other teams' results on our minds, we are focused on our own matches. We will try to win tomorrow against Afghanistan and then focus on the match against Bangladesh"

"The tracks here are a little on the faster side and spinners aren't getting much help. Just in the last match against NZ, spinners got help. I'll do whatever is the team requirement, if the captain requires me to bowl then I will do that as well"

"When you play on such a pitch as the one against NZ where the ball is spinning, I think you need to move your feet and play the bowlers. Babar and I spoke about this, Santner was spinning the ball so I used my feet against him. We were focused on taking the match deep as the required rate was only around 4-5"

HARIS SEIZING HIS CHANCE TO SHINE FOR PAKISTAN

After missing four games, he’s enjoying his new role at number five
89 against South Africa best World Cup innings by Pakistan’s middle order since 1992
Just like Pakistan, Haris Sohail has been reborn at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019.

Haris was a casualty of his side’s opening defeat to West Indies, left out of the side for the subsequent four games.

But the left-hander, deployed at number three in March’s series against Australia, has been recast as a fluent number five and spearheaded successive victories over South Africa and New Zealand.

“The way I was batting in the Australia series, I was in good form even then,” said Haris.

“I have a slightly different role for the World Cup, I'm batting at five, but wherever you bat the basics should be simple and based on the requirement of the situation.

“Whenever I've played before, I've never been out of the team because of my performances. I had a bad surgery and it was because of that I was struggling.

“Of course I felt a little bad when I was dropped, but I was thinking only about the team - it was for the betterment of the team.

“When we play for Pakistan, we have one aim: what is best for Pakistan. As such I haven't changed anything, I'm playing according to the situation and thankfully succeeding.”

Sarfaraz Ahmed’s side, drawing eerie parallels with Imran Khan’s Cornered Tigers of 1992, will climb into the top four if they beat bottom side Afghanistan at Headingley on Saturday.

Haris’s vital 89 to down the Proteas was the best World Cup contribution from a Pakistani middle-order man since Javed Miandad’s identical score against Zimbabwe at the 1992 World Cup.

The 30-year-old also batted in an unexpectedly aggressive manner at Lord’s, his strike-rate against soaring to 150 – far dwarfing his career rate of 85.

The Punjab product can expect to face spin almost exclusively in the middle overs against Afghanistan and it’s clear Mickey Arthur has his side studying mystery man Mujeeb Ur Rahman.

“We have kept it very simple. We are taking the World Cup match-by-match,” said Haris.

“They have quality spinners and we have seen a lot of videos to try and work out their variations.

“We lost to Afghanistan in a warm-up - they played very good cricket that day. We hope to play better cricket and win.

“Every match has a different pressure and at a World Cup, there is always pressure. Hopefully we will see a good match against Afghanistan.

I'm surprised at how aggressively Haris Sohail has played in this World Cup. He isn't known as a boundary hitter, hence his short T20 career, but he has hit some glorious big shots. Good timer of the ball and seems to have a lot time against pace.

In the past he's looked like a million bucks before throwing it away but in his last two matches he's made his starts count.

Great comments from the Classy batsmen. Sad some good years of his career were wasted by PCB docs.

Two very winnable matches. Bangladesh will be the big Test now for the lads. Whose he kidding by saying they don't care what is happening with other teams fighting for a spot in the semi's?. Of course they know exactly what is happening in the RSA-Sri Lanka match and will be glued to the TV on Sunday too.

And it would be disastrous to take afghans lightly.
They have a more than capable spin attack

We keep forgetting that he was very new at the international scene when he used to throw away his wicket after starts. We were never patient with him. I really dont know why we had different approach towards him as a new comer as compared to some of the other newbies.

Excellent comments from haris sohail .I wish people read the whole interview instead of nitpicking single line

Very level headed responses. Also how he carries himself while batting. I'm impressed with the player. I wonder if in the short term having Sarfaraz continue with captaincy until the World T20 and allowing Haris to establish himself/groom as vc and eventually turn the captaincy over to him wouldn't be the best option.

He should never have been dropped after that maiden 50 against NZ at UAE when he won Pakistan the match chasing a decent score.

He should carry on his good form with babar and take pakistan to semis. Good luck to him. Such a good naturally talented batsman he is. He lost his peak years of about 6 7 years since his debut way back in 2013 due to many reasons like fitness and other team selections like umer amin was preferred over him . Hopefully he will cover those 6 7 years and play for pakistan for next 6 7 years atleast IN SHAA ALLAH and become a backbone of pakistan batting along with babar. Both are fine talents among the best in our country in terms of batting.

Looks confident, imposing and very impressive press conference...

Impressed the way he spoke in urdu, didnt shy that he is not speaking in english, though he understands english very well....

Lol at the reporter “people are comparing you to misbah and younis” lmfaoo misbah and younis could never become half the players Harris and babar are already even if they played another 20 years

In ODIs yes, but in Tests it is Babar and Haris who are not yet even half the player Misbah was and not even a fifth of the player Younis was

Why bring in tests when the discussion is about ODIs?

Misbah and Younis cannot tie shoelaces of Babar and Haris in ODIs. Younis is probably the worst ODI player in the HISTORY OF THE GAME. And Misbah is the biggest serial match loser.

Good player with balanced views. And Pakistan kept him out of side for so long.
No wonder your ex players lambast the team all the time.
