Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has openly admitted that he and the country's Army Chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, had to travel to nations to ask for financial help.

The rare confession came during his address to top Pakistani exporters in Islamabad on Friday night, where he spoke about the choices his government had to make because of the country's economy.

Stating that the condition of Pakistan's foreign reserves had improved, Sharif said, "The current situation is that the reserves of the foreign exchange have almost doubled. But the loans of our friends and countries are included... But you know that the one who goes to take a loan, his head is bowed."

Shehbaz elaborated how embarrassingly he and Asim Munir have had to compromise to seek help desperately.

"We feel ashamed when Field Marshal Asim Munir and I go around the world begging for money. Taking loans is a huge burden on our self-respect. Our heads bow down in shame. We cannot say no to many things they want us to do...," Shehbaz said.

The remarks come at a time when Pakistan is in active discussions with the International Monetary Fund for a plan to support economic growth after applying strict policies to stabilise the country.

He said his government has directed the central bank and the finance ministry to support industrial growth by improving access to capital. "The governor has to listen to business leaders and take bold decisions," Sharif said on Friday.

Pakistan recently received $1.2 billion from the IMF as part of its ongoing loan programme and a separate climate-related financing plan. This funding has helped Pakistan repay debt and build up its foreign reserves.

The central bank predicted this week that by December its foreign reserves will cross $20 billion - a record. However, the program requires Pakistan to maintain a tight monetary policy and restrain spending.

State bank of Pakistan, the central bank, this week unexpectedly kept its key rate steady at 10.5%, citing concerns inflation may pick up while forecasting GDP will expand 3.75%-4.75% in the fiscal year to June

Sharif also said his team, led by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, had presented a strong case to the IMF. "I have told them that we have achieved stability and now we have to generate employment and reduce poverty," he said.

Lots of Masala added by Indians as expected.

No mention of Asim Munir in his speech, nor was there any mention of begging.

He was giving a statement on the challenges Pakistan faced and giving thanks to friendly nations for helping them while acknowledging that being in a position of being in debt means you have to make compromises to lender.

As usual Indian media adds words and in this case references to Asim Munir to make the story a bit different.

At the end of the day, whatever Pakistan has done, it doesn't compare to Modi going to Israel to sing and dance for them at behest of Epstein and Americans.

Really? Look at the video I posted below your post. He clearly mentions Field Marshall.

Always funny to see Indians lie and post about finances of Pakistan when India is a literal dump itself. Would make a bit more sense if this was an Aussie or German posting on this topic .

It’s like a monkey laughing at a lemur for spending its day on trees.

Straight from the horse's mouth.

It seems like the title of this thread is a complete fabrication and he didn't anything like that in that video. He was just talking about compromises one has to make in getting loans. I do know that if given the opportunity, nearly every Indian will escape to the country that has #1 debt in the world.

LOL, these are exactly the type of responses you expect when you show the mirror to a donkey. It's the PM of Pakistan who made statements, I merely posted them. And yet posters are taking offence at me, rather that talking what came out of the horse's mouth.

Nearly every Indian will escape to the country with by far the most debt in the world if they were allowed to.

It is a simple question, no need for lecture on donkeys and horses. Do you really think the quotes in your article match the video?

You didn't reply to the point people have made, and are deflecting. The title is a lie, he's explaining things in context, and Indians will escape to #1 indebted country in the world if given the opportunity. Those are all relevant responses. Reply to those points before running your mouth off.

Watch your video and then read your highlighted quote. Is it the same?

Btw any opinion on what song Modi sang and what kind of dance he did for Epstein?

Pakistani economy is running only due to loans and IMF grants as no industries are growing there.

The so-called beggars turned the world’s 4th largest economy into a place where diplomats hide behind dumpsters.

I respect Shehbaz Sharif for being honest enough to admit that constantly asking other countries for loans is humiliating. It takes courage for a leader to acknowledge that reality.

Just because India is in a relatively stronger economic position today does not give us the right to mock or demean another nation going through hardship. Economic fortunes change and history humbles everyone eventually.

Have we forgotten our own past? In 1991–92, India itself was on the brink of collapse and we had to physically pledge our gold to the Bank of England and Switzerland just to raise about $600 million to stay afloat.

When a country is struggling at multiple fronts, its leadership must act honestly and honourably.

What looks insensitive is political elites living or projecting luxury, while citizens face daily hardship. We saw recently how this insensitivity caused troubles in Nepal where the people got fed up with political elite showing off wealth as the ordinary people struggled to make ends meet.

In tough times, leaders should look grounded and accountable, not royal. Maybe Maryam Shareef could learn a thing or two from this. I hate to make judgemental comments in this age but she seems to be suffering from severe narcissism and a near psychotic condition of wanting to look young, pretty and super wealthy.

Yes I remember those early 90s India on the brink of an economic collapse on its knees. 2 visionaries saved the country, Narasimha Rao and Dr ManMohan Singh. This was also the only time India requested assistance from IMF I believe and also the last time..

I believe even England had to approach IMF shortly mere decades after they ruled almost 25% of the world.

Two back to back world wars wrecked their economic clout.

If countries aren’t smart enough, things can go horribly wrong in a matter of decades.

India has borrowed several times from the IMF through the 60s, 70s and 80s but yes the last time was in 1991 when our gold had to be sent abroad as pledge.

In Bollywood films, this was always the final humiliation for a family...'ghar ke gehnon ko girvi rakhna pada'. I think the media (newspapers) and opposition played it up similarly and the emotion struck a nerve making it a lot easier for PVN and Manmohan to push through those radical reforms.

Your are admitting India is 4th largest country.. at the same time Pakistan is fully depend on IMF loan installments... US playing major role in granting IMF money to Pakistan. Thats why US included Pakistan in Gaza peace keeping force to combat against Hamas terrorists.... Bigger have no choice.

Interestingly, Pakistanis hits the street in support of Palestine and Hamas. Now their own government fighting against hamas terrorists

What?

He wants to convince Pakistani peoples that we have to fight against hamas in gaza peace keeping force becauses we are totally depends on IMF money controlled by US. US calling the shot and we are beggars

Well Pakistan is on Trumps board of peace aren't they. Well what a wonderful sight it will be see Pakistani troops being used to wipe out Hamas 🥰😍.

Trump literally toying with Pakistan... they have fallen to US trap. Its now Hamas Vs. Pakistani soldiers

I can't wait to see this, Pakistanis go from one circus to a bigger one, same story, year after year, decade after decade.

But

I think finally Pakistanis may do something useful for the first time in their existence, wipe out or help eliminate Hamas and bring stability to the region...

US also pressurised Pakistan after 9/11 to use their land.

However during Gulf War US requested India to use Indian ports for maintenance of their aircraft carriers and refueling their planes... However India turned down their request as India is a proud nation.

Shouldn't headlines read -
" Pakistani PM says asking for loan makes one's head bow down"

Because that's exactly what he said.

Why the exaggeration or the demeaning headlines??
It's not a sign of a professional news network to do that.

It's a sign of a compromised cheap news media that is selling itself for the lowest denomination possible.

Hence, the news media and you as it's presenter/poster here should feel more embarrassed than the Shahbaz.
