We need to realize PSL is NOT good for finding Test quality players

I am tired of seeing everyone hyping the PSl and thinking we will get new talent from there, maybe we will get some hacks like Faheem, Asif, etc. who are only good for limited overs.

However, PSL will NOT produce players who can bat well in Test cricket. For Tests we MUST pick from top FC and Pakistan A team performers! I will be so angry if the foolish selectors pick overhyoed PSL talent for Tests, while ignoring the A team / FC performances.

It's not helped when fools like Sarfraz and Mickey also think PSL is the place to talent hunt only...

It is not even good for finding T20 players. It is a competition filled with club-level cricketers.

So lets shut down PSL and move on with our lives, shall we?

Exactly!!!!! PSL is only good for money making of some veteran and oldies who can earn a good money. This tournament never gives opportunities to any promising batsman.

Tests ODIs, both.

We can't totally ignore PSL either, it should have some weight, but not MORE than FC and List A.

Plus actual skills and ability needs to be looked at too, not just stats.

Let's shut down the PSL because it's not producing test players. What?! It's a T20 league for god sake, an opportunity for kids to show their talent, obviously we won't find test players here. Go look in domestic cricket for them

And that's why is PSL is 2nd division league where retired, TTFs, out of flavored players are more welcomed than talented or promising young locals.

I think what the OP is trying to argue here is that the players that PSL is producing do not look like they will go on to play Test cricket. Although he has a valid point, I still think that this argument may apply to batsmen, however there is nothing to suggest that we may find a potential fast bowler or a spinner who can be groomed with limited overs experience and developed into a Test match bowler.

Totally agree with this profound OP.

Reminds me of another profound yet wise statement I had also heard:

"Deserts are NOT good for finding Fish"

Wisdom !

To be really frank people are getting confused between showcasing a talent and finding a talent here on PP. BBL, PSL or IPL do not find any talent, period. They just showcase the players who have been already playing domestic cricket. Once we have gotten that out of the way, PSL or IPL was never meant to be finding players for the Test team. If PCB Is picking players based on PSL performances for Tests then it is their mistake.

So with all the talk that we won CT because of Fakhar and other youngsters and they come from PSL was false? Please imagine for a minute where we would be right now if any of the players who made their PSL debut before their PAK debut did not exist/play for PAK? Would we be stuck with Akmal bros, waiting for Shehzad ban to end? Wahab as our second pacer?

I think some people are getting a bit confused. PSL is good for finding talent, just not talent for Test cricket. Yes the batsmen PSL has produced may only be worthy of LO cricket. I also agree that we should harvest Test cricket talent from our FC structure rather than recycling LO oriented players found in PSL. However all this talk that PSL is no good for finding talent and that we should stop hyping up youngsters in PSL is pointless. Yes we should hype them up because they are our T20I and ODI team of the future.
