"We'll target Misbah-ul-Haq" : Peter Siddle

Career Average back over 30 for the great man.

Though our bowlers do that on a regular basis, getting over 30...

Reminds of Stuart Broad who was talking rubbish before Pakistan White Washed England in UAE.

Misbah and co took the Aussie bowlers to the cleaners!

Once again many thanks to Peter Siddle for his time and also for targeting Misbah-ul-Haq.

Australia's pace stocks have thinned further, with scans revealing Peter Siddle has stress fractures in his back.

Siddle has also been booked in for ankle surgery and will not be back on the park for a long time.

It is possible the veteran has played his last Test.

Siddle is only 31 but his career has stalled after being dropped in 2014 during a tour of South Africa.

The right-armer has played only eight Tests since, partly due to a drop in pace and partly because of some talented young pacemen.

Durability had been one of Siddle's greatest strengths but the lion-hearted Victorian has been injured in three of his past four Tests.

"He will now require a significant amount of time away from the game with a lengthy rehabilitation process," team physio David Beakley said.

"Whilst he is laid off with his current back injury, we will take the opportunity for Peter to have exploratory surgery on his left ankle.

"Once that surgery is complete, we will have a better idea of his prognosis and likely rehabilitation timeframe."

Siddle has not played a limited-overs match for Australia since 2010 but would have been a handy asset on the side's Test tour of Sri Lanka in July.

Selectors should at least have a fit-again Mitchell Starc to call on for that three-Test series.

"He's going pretty well at the moment," coach Darren Lehmann said.

"We're hoping he'll be available in the West Indies (ODI tri-series in June) ... then full tilt at Sri Lanka."

Many factors led to Australia reclaiming the number one Test ranking with a 2-0 series win over New Zealand.

But Lehmann and skipper Steve Smith agreed pace depth was high on the list.

"It's certainly a reflection of the depth of bowling," Lehmann said.

"We've got a fair few guys injured at the moment.

"That will put pressure on them as well, coming back. They've got to perform to play."

Mitchell Johnson and Ryan Harris both retired last year, while Starc, Pat Cummins and Nathan Coulter-Nile were all unavailable for the trip across the Tasman because of injuries.

Smith could not be more proud of how his inexperienced attack rattled New Zealand.

"You always want your strike bowlers on the park as much as possible," Smith said.

"But I guess that's the way cricket works. Particularly with fast bowlers, they can go down at any time.

"Credit to the Australian system, having so many guys around that are capable of playing Test cricket."

Josh Hazlewood stepped up as spearhead, setting the tone for the NZ series by snaring three wickets in his opening spell on day one of the first Test.

But Jackson Bird was just as influential in the second Test, grabbing his maiden five-wicket haul in Christchurch.

"I thought he bowled really well," Smith said."

Australia bowler Peter Siddle signed a two-year deal at Essex on Friday following his successful spells at English county this season.

Siddle is returning to Australia following the conclusion of his latest stint at Essex.

But the 33-year-old seamer has taken 37 wickets in seven County Championship First Division matches this year, convincing Essex chiefs to bring him back next season.

"See you all next summer guys can't wait," Siddle tweeted.

Siddle, whose international career includes 62 Tests, 17 one-day internationals and two Twenty20s, agreed to extended his link with Essex in the same week as the county announced a fresh three-year deal for Alastair Cook.

Former England captain Cook will retire from international duty at the end of current Test against India.

Siddle shines for Essex with 500th wicket
"I have loved my time at the club so far with the players and staff giving me a great welcome, and I really feel part of the team at Essex," Siddle said.

"As an overseas player, I am always committed to taking the whole experience in and not just picking up my money and being on my way at the end of a contract.

"I'm also really excited to play alongside Cooky, we've had some really great battles in the past and it's going to be fun to play on the same side as him rather than against him."
