Imran has received a fair bit of criticism for referring to the foreign players in the PSL final as "phateechar".

How do you feel about his comments? Were they justified?

were the players playing for Gladiator in the Final "phateechar"? Yes! If they were not they would have been selected to play from game 1.

was his comments "politically correct"? No!

As someone said in the other thread, if there is one Pakistani cricketer who has the record to call others "pateechar" it is Imran Khan.

However, despite being a huge backer of Immy I have to admit that the comments were in bad taste and shouldn't have been made. So I have voted in the negative.

That being said, we in are daily lives make thousands of comments that are not "politically correct" but we still make them because nobody is filming us. That is what happened with IK too, little did he know that some low-life reporter was filming it and released it to the public. Still he shouldn't have made the comments. The issue has been blown out of proportion because after years of trying his opponents finally have something to hold him accountable by.

There was news on the same day that a recent report mentioned that 84% of supplied drinking water in Pakistan is not fit for consumption as per international standards but for our media personnel and rulers the word "pateechar" was ruling the roost.

Ohhh so you're also part of the 'other news much worse than Phateechar' brigade...

Then us Pakistanis whine when Ian Chappell tells Pakistanis to not visit Australia again because we always get whitewashed..

If there is anything that tops that it is Imran's racial slur against players from Afrcia, along with his statements calling these players phateechar..

Couldn't have said it better myself. People making a huge deal out of nothing to be honest.

No he only said what everyone was thinking.

Everyone is not a racist. I found his comment disgusting and obnoxious. He can openly critisise genuine attempts by Pakistan trying promote their cricket to the world and be all smiles in India.

Sometimes its better to say nothing at all. Every other country plays politics with our cricket, how can we succeed when our do too?

Our cricket needs all the support it can get to get back on its feet. Zimbabwe are coming back to tour. ICC will be discussing tours to Pakistan next month. New stadiums are being built. More doors are opening.

He goes running to India all smiles and done nothing for Pakistan cricket after he retired.

No I have no issues with what he said. We brought extra foreign players for show. They rarely had time to prepare for the big game. The final was heavily rushed.

Everyone who has an ounce of cricket knowledge was thinking Quetta have bought in some average cricketers. Maybe you thought they were world class?

Nothing racist in mentioning the country/continent where someone is from.

Firstly Darren Sammy is from West Indies, not Africa. His comment is racist. I am embarrassed by it. Just disgusting.

We have generated a lot of goodwill, this was not needed.

It was inappropriate and disrespectful.

It's one thing to criticize PSL's management but targeting cricket players who agreed to visit your terror-ridden country (with all due respect) is utterly shameful.

I never mentioned Sammy and neither did IK. He was refering to Moren Van Vyke who is from South Africa and an average player in international standards. He's 37 and has only played 8 T20I.

You have a fixer as your avatar and you support a known thief and money launderer. At this point you don't have any moral authority to lecture anyone on anything.

Finally PML people found something to criticize IK, which I don't think is an issue. He has an opinion about the quality of the foreign players, whats wrong with that.

Multiple reasons it was inappropriate and I say this as someone without a clue about Pakistani politics.

1) He's a role model for all cricketers (including the "garbage" ones)
2) Those cricketers chose to visit while others didn't
3) There was no reason to make the statement

It was crass.

Ok, congratulation , lets make a mountain out of a molehill.

Really disappointed to hear these remarks from Imran Khan. It doesn't matter if they are well known players or not, they are visiting Pakistan after wave of terror attacks. This is not how we should treat guests especially when we are trying to get them to visit our country. They should be appreciated for believing in Pakistan.

c'mon every one knew it what they are.
it was just kind of thing
we all know but no one can say it.
if you gonna open your mouth you are inviting for trouble.
im sure all the ppers were disappointed after seeing the foreigner selected by quetta it was a joke complete idiotic and unfair to them.
all these money spend on as ik said phateechar is totally waste if pcb cant convince international team.
at best pcb can convince bangla and srilanka in 2 years times.
they should just stop wasting the money on these kinda players and team and save it for their infrastructure and youngster development .
and can think about hosting international events when foreigner can visit Pakistan without this much of security and enjoy themselves.
hope this will be happening soon In Sha Allah.

Imran never referred to only Quetta players.... please point one instance his initial press conference or the interview with Hamid Mir where he said I was only referring to Quetta Gladiator players...

When asked about Sammy, he said 'I didnot point to Sammy'

So were Chris Jordan and Marlon Samuels phateechar as well???

Chris Jordan is currently playing for England but IK never heard of him..

Samuels is the MOM winner in 2012 WC final for WI... If I'm not mistaken Afridi only extended his career for 7 years just coz he was MOM in one final of 2009 t20 WC

David Malan even though a county player, was pretty impressive throughout the tournament.. SO is he phateechar as well..

IK's comments are way off on any of the above mentioned players

Marlon Samuels, Chris Jordan, David Malan?
Khan Sahab's cricketing knowledge/bias against the PSL has clearly got him in trouble this time... He's a vile and a sad excuse for a human being with the pettiness he has shown throughout

im not defending imran khan im just saying it was something everyone was aware of but to say that in media right after psl it was not called for.
& as far as his knowledge about current players are concerned he is totally unaware about cricket related stuff and forget about foreign players im damn sure he wont be able to recognise many players from pakistan itself . im not saying he must know but if he is unaware about something then at least don't make comments on it.
comments that will do more bad than good.
his comments were more politically motivated .

I voted against it however noticed that 18 fellow posters voted in Yes.

Very insightful as imo IK's statement cannot be justified by any cultured individual.

Negative comments?? The Imran Khan comments were not only negative but racist too with that Africa bit thrown in.

It is important to note that Imran has simply said what most of us felt and also stated on this forum when the players' list was revealed. However, Imran should know his position better. He is a leader with millions of followers and anything he says circulates on the media. Why make such comments that can easily backfire and stir controversy?

However, this disease of his isn't curable. He has no control on his mouth which means that his supporters have to rush to his aid to provide context to his comments and come up with every excuse under the sun.

Not at all.All the flak he has been receiving is deserved. There were racist, disgusting comments in the mix as well.

I voted ''No''. I think he should apologise and get the issue over with.

The Gladiators' players were unknown not necessarily phateechar as we cant say based on one performance in the final. The bowler did a decent job from Gladiators. It was unfair to call them phateechar, unless they had been with the team for the whole competition. Ahmed Shehzad gave a phateechar performance and so did Sarfaraz.
Khan Sb should keep his mouth shut sometimes.

what does it mean?

The Best Post on this thread :)) :)) :))

On Topic: I think he should've not said this but I kinda agree with the sentiment. TBH it was quite a joke of a final which sadly glossed over an extremely exciting 2 weeks tournament.

A lot has been said on this topic but if you look closely his terminology was perhaps not the best but he wasn't far off wrong was he. I mean look at the replacement players, hardly worldbeaters were they.
