"We're Looking For Bobby Deol": Bajrang Dal Attacks Prakash Jha's Set

Members of the right-wing group said Prakash Jha's web series 'Ashram' starring Bobby Deol was an assault on Hinduism and they will not allow its filming till the title was changed.

Filmmaker Prakash Jha was roughed up, his face smeared with ink on Sunday when a group of Bajrang Dal members went on a rampage on the set of his web series being shot in Bhopal, the police said.

Videos shot by witnesses on cellphones showed Bajrang Dal members chasing down crew, managing to catch at least one of them and beating him mercilessly with a metal light stand.

Members of the right-wing group said Prakash Jha's web series 'Ashram' starring Bobby Deol was an assault on Hinduism and they will not allow its filming till the title was changed.

Mr Jha, who has not filed a complaint in the matter yet, has assured that he will change the name of the series, a Bajrang Dal leader said.

A mob of Bajrang Dal members shouted slogans like "Prakash Jha Murdabad", "Bobby Deol Murdabad" and "Jai Shri Ram" as they attacked the set at Old Jail Premises located in Arera Hills in the evening.

"They made Ashram 1, Ashram 2 and were shooting Ashram 3 here. Prakash Jha showed in Ashram that the guru was abusing women. Does he have the guts to make such a film on a church or madrasa? Who does he think he is?" Bajrang Dal leader Sushil Surhele said.

"Bajrang Dal challenges him, we won't let him make this film. So far we have just blackened Prakash Jha's face. We are looking for Bobby Deol. He should learn something from his brother (Sunny Deol). He made such patriotic movies," he added.

The police have said that even though no one from Mr Jha's team has pressed charges, those involved will be identified and arrested.

"Action will be taken against those who disrupted the shooting and vandalised property today itself. They will be arrested," senior police officer Irshad Wali said.

"Anti-social elements ransacked vehicles created trouble. Crew members of Ashram will be given fill security and it will be ensured this does not happen again," he added.

In 2017, another right-wing group Karni Sena had attacked the sets of the Deepika Padukone-starrer 'Padmaavat', assaulting director Sanjay Leela Bhansali and other crew members and forcing the movie to modify scenes and change its name from 'Padmaavati'.

Earlier this year, Amazon had to issue an apology and make changes to its Saif Ali Khan-starrer web series 'Tandav' after it faced objections from some Hindu groups and the producers were threatened with arrest by the Uttar Pradesh government.

I think these same clowns have lost their rags on previous movies too. Maybe they are the OFCOM of India. Instead of issuing fines, they use their 20ft sticks to attack people.

Hindu extremism is getting just as bad as Islamic extremism. The reason it doesn't get as much media attention (in the West) is because it is mainly localised within India itself, and because Hinduism isn't usually proselytising. I remember the Christian outrage over an 'offensive' film was rather peaceful, because Christianity is more watered-down in the West. However, whenever you offend the religious sensibilities of Islam and now Hinduism, the (sizeable minority) of crazies go nuts, and a large amount of adherents will implicitly or explicitly support the terrible actions. Crazy world we're living in.

Amazon Prime Video India Head Aparna Purohit Gets Protection From Arrest In 'Tandav' Row

The Supreme Court has granted anticipatory bail to Amazon Prime Video's India head Aparna Purohit in FIRs lodged over the web series "Tandav". A bench of justices Sanjiv Khanna and M M Sundresh granted the relief after noting that Purohit has been cooperating in the investigation.

"In view of the statement made, we confirm the interim order and direct that in the event of the appellant Aparna Purohit being arrested, she shall be released on bail by the arresting officer/trial court on terms and conditions to be fixed by the trial court," it said.

Senior advocates Mukul Rohatgi and Sidharth Luthra, appearing for the petitioner, told the court that Purohit is cooperating in the investigation.

The top court had earlier on March 5, 2021, granted interim protection from arrest to Purohit.

She has been accused of inappropriate depiction of Uttar Pradesh Police personnel, Hindu deities and an adverse portrayal of a character playing the prime minister in the web series. Earlier, the apex court, on January 27, 2021, had declined to grant interim protection from any coercive action to Ali Abbas Zafar, director of the web series; Purohit; producer Himanshu Mehra; the show's writer Gaurav Solanki and actor Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub.

It had said they may seek bail from courts concerned in the FIRs lodged in connection with the web series.

Purohit appealed to the top court against the Allahabad High Court's order declining anticipatory bail to her saying she had not been vigilant and has acted irresponsibly making her open to criminal prosecution in permitting streaming of a movie which is against the fundamental rights of the majority of citizens of this country.

On January 19, 2021, an FIR was lodged on the complaint of Balbir Azad of Raunija village under Rabupura police station of Greater Noida.

Dharmendra became a muslim just so that he can legally wed Hema Malini while still being wedded to his 1st wife as in India muslim men can have up to 4 wives. So he is namesake muslim but is actually a Sikh.

Bajrang Dal Members Disrupt 100 Muslims Offering Namaz At Open Site In Gurugram

Slogan-shouting Bajrang Dal members disrupted a Friday namaz being held in the open in sector 69 here, forcing a group of 100 people offering prayers to leave the venue.

In 2021, the district administration designated six open sites for offering namaz here.

Police said around 15 Bajrang Dal members led by its district security chief Amit Hindu disrupted more than 100 people who were offering namaz at a site on the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) land in sector 69.

After receiving the information a police team reached the spot and found that the people from the Muslim community were leaving the place, Umesh Kumar, SHO of Badshahpur police station, said.

The team asked the Bajrang Dal members to leave the place after which the situation was brought under control, he said.

"The site was one of six designated (open) sites. We have not received any complaint and if received action will be taken as per the law," he added.

Last year the district administration designated six sites including Atlas Chowk at HSIIDC Ground, Peepal Chowk in Udyog Vihar phase-2, HSVP land in Udyog Vihar phase-4, Leisure Valley Ground in Sector 29, HSVP land in Sector 42 and HSVP land in Sector 69 for offering Namaz by the Muslim community.

Amit Hindu, a member of the right-wing outfit, alleged that the worshippers were encroaching on the green belt in the area to pray.

This site was allocated on a temporary basis for offering prayers. Now, some people from other districts and states are also coming here to offer namaz, he claimed.

"We will give a memorandum to the deputy commissioner on Monday to stop prayer at this site," he added.

Right-wing outfits have been opposing the offering of Friday namaz in open spaces.

Members of the Muslim community in Gurugram say they go to the public places because of lack of mosques in the areas where they work or live.
