Were Pakistan just undone by an out of shape ball?

So the ball that suddenly got misbah, shafiq and sami out was just tested by the umpires in the ball ring. The ball couldn't pass through the circle, which indicates the ball was out of its proper playing shape, in pakistani cricket slang it was an andaa.

Do you think Pakistan was unfairly undone by the irregular ball?

Remember the ball got changed in the 31st over. Wickets fell in the 27, 29 and 30th over
 
Not watching ball by ball but worth looking into

but tbh it seems like a hollow excuse

the wickets were regular deliveries. nothing funky

Cute post, but I personally think it was the air humidity that suddenly came across Brisbane.

Thats because the ball was being bowled at a fuller length at that time, that way it isnt noticed easily to the naked eye. Here the ball could be getting late movement or extra bit of late bounce
 
Out of shape balls don't help the bowlers....

New ball has claimed another wicket, Pakistan are 8 down..

We were undone by the batsmen deciding to entertain the evening crowd by performing a collective Yasir Hameed tribute.
 
Of all the ridiculous excuses this one tops the list.

At least the lights one is kinda believable.

So you are saying that a ball which had become an Andaa and couldn't pass through a circle had no part in playing the downfall of our wickets?
 
I think the crowds were too noisy as well !! We're so used to playing at empty stands that I guess the amount of people really disturbed the concentration levels of our batters..

ICC needs to look into these allegations seriously....

You have to ask yourself why would the bowlers ask to change the ball if it is the reason for wickets falling.
 
What kind of excuse is this. As per my limited knowledge out of shape ball is advantage batting side. It does not swing & seam much. Truth is Pak batsman r rubbish
 
I agree with OP. Hopefully in the next inning no one will get out on a perfectly rounded, shinning pink ball. :afridi
 
That man came running on the field and that led to the break in concentration. Thats why they collapsed. Otherwise score would be 150-1 by the end of the day... damn that guy was the real culprit of pak collapse. :))

I am saying if we do some introspection today we will find something more substantial then list of excuses blaming wind, lights, ball speed, ball condition or some other triviality for being 97-8 after 50 overs.
 
The useless excuses keep hurting us. Now we are doing same like Bangladesh. If Umpire give out to 1 Indian Batsmen they would have won the World Cup 2015.
If you can not play in foreign conditions with large crowd, swing bowling, great fielders who don't drop catches and take hard catches than you should not play in overseas. Even Afghanistan can do better than this in batting.
What do you expect? Aussie fielders drop catches of Starc's bowling or give half volley or leg stamp ball to our batsmen. Our batsmen still will play defensive to score 100 in 50-60 overs.
We are not just good enough neither our selectors are honest to give opportunity to young players instead of bunch of flat track bullies
 
Other factors that played a [MENTION=135038]Major[/MENTION] role: color of scoreboard (ball may be lost in the background), slight yellowish tinge in Australian cricket kit, number of flies and other insects (ball may hit one and deviate), height of umpires (domestic umpires tend to be shorter), complexion of spectators (those in UAE are darker).

its not an excuse, but when a ball is not passing through a circle, it does indicate it is severely out of shape and the fact that the same ball took 3 wickets does make you question them.

No one is saying that Pakistan would had 150-1 or anything like that, but you cannot rule out a factor just like that

i think you need to stop persisting and stop digging a hole.

Its not the batsmen that refer the ball to the umpire, its the bowlers. If it helped them and they were getting wickets because of it, why would they refer the ball and ask for a newer older ball that isn't worked on as much as the 30 over ball? The fact is after polishing and polishing a ball, only reluctantly will a bowler hand it over to an umpire.

The out of shape ball has massive disadvantage to bowlers as they cant control its seam movement therefore they very reluctantly show it to the umpire.
 
It was just normal Aussie Pink Ball cricket under lights, right down to the final hour being easier to bat in.

Babar Azam and Asad Shafiq played shots you shouldn't play in those conditions.

And Younis Khan and Misbah are both around eight years too old to cope with the pace and bounce in Australia.

It's as simple as that!
 
the teams lack of application of fight and quality in these conditions is why we find ourselves in this position.
 
I think the situation is different with the pink ball Major ,even the commentators were like why are bowlers changing the ball if its working for them.
 
I agree man the ball behaved like it had two seams, but this is just an excuse. Batting was awful.
 
Did anyone else also notice that Pakistan were batting on a particularly spicy pitch? The umpires should have used the hoop on the pitch as well to determine if it met the established standards.

Why do Pakistan fans so often look for lame excuses? Australian players are just much better players in these conditions. You just got humiliated 2-0 by NZ, you don't need to look for excuses as to why you're getting mauled by Aus. It's simple, they're a lot better.
 
Two things always remain constant in cricket. Indian bowlers leaking 500 and a good old Pakistani batting collapse, outside asia.

In all honesty, Pakistan had little chance of beating Australia at the Gabba, more so when they crossed 350. I expected a sub 250 score from Pak, didn't expect a dramatic collapse but it was always on the cards. Irrespective of the wicket, Pakistan respond very poorly to scoreboard pressure whenever the opposition team crosses 400. I said in an another thread that Pakistan need the ability to bat under scoreboard pressure more than anything else before the tour of Australia started. The Australians score very fast in their home and it's especially difficult to control the scoring rate if you don't get your length right on the hard flat wickets you find there. Pacers get carried away with the bounce generally but the Aussie batsmen have grown up playing on the back foot in their home and short balls are bread and butter for them. You need to pitch it slightly fuller than getting carried away with the short ball.

But generally Australia make huge totals when they bat first. So as an opposition team, you shouldn't be fazed under scoreboard pressure and look to play your shots too as the bad balls will come. The moment Pakistan went into their shells scoring at 1.8, it was obvious that a collapse was just around the corner. You let the Aussie bowlers bowl at you and dictate terms, you are cooked goose.

Anyway the current Australian team looks surprisingly green in their batting. It's basically a 3 man team in Smith, Warner and Khawaja. Renshaw and Handscomb have potential but are inexp while the likes of Maddinson and Wade are a joke. But their bowling is world class irrespective of the surface. This match is beyond Pakistan, but they have a good chance in the next two if they induce a similar collapse in the Australian line up at Melbourne or Sydney. But the batting needs to stand up to have a chance of beating Australia in Australia.

All true. A ball swings because of the pressure difference due to a layer of air that travels with the ball. If the ball is out of shape and rotating, the layer of air will not stick to it as well and the ball will not swing as well.
 
We were undone by two 40 year olds and a mental midget in lively conditions who're supposed to be a 'settled' unit. Credit to Australia for utilizing the conditions and scoreboard pressure. The crowd was excellent. Great atmosphere.

Have you seen batsmen asking to change balls? You will find bowlers asking to change an out of shape ball. Lame excuse here.

Yes totally agree. On slow subcontinental wickets Australian cricketing style and their gung ho approach led to them being thrashed. Flip it on its head and you will notice that Pakistans subcontinental style of crawling along at 2 RPO means they are just sitting ducks for the good ball that inevitably would come along.

Pakistan should be learning to take on the bowling but they cant. Why??? i just dont know..is it technique? is it fear...is it respect?? just dont know. We saw Azhar in Delhi in 2012 taking on the swinging ball and we saw Asad in Uk doing well so they can certainly play..
