What's new

West Indies LOI tour of India in 2019 (3 T20Is, 3 ODIs)

I see no point in playing Jadhav. He is already near 35 and what are we going to achieve here by playing him? If we only need a stop-gap no 6-7 for a year or so, what's the harm in calling Raina back?

MSK prasad is the worst selector i have ever seen! Don't think Dhawan and jadav would be around for the next worldcup as they're on their last leg! rahul and manish are TTFs, pant has failed in almost every innings he played this year! Don't know what Samson and gill should do to get selected!

BTW MSK is around in selection committee for so many years. Taking over of the BCCI by SC has allowed him to function undisturbed in the in-between period. The new management has more important matters to deal with first like the money, the qualification and the inheritance in the process overlooking him.
He has absolutely run Indian T20 side to the ground by recycle-selecting same old faces again and again in the name of changes. Test success is more due to Virat having his way in selecting his own team.

Jadhav :))

Where are Dinesh Karthik and that Vijay guy? Let's go back to our World Cup team. :)))

Terrible squad. What is the point of playing Rohit and Kohli against WI? What does it prove? Nothing.

Also Jadhav?

India is allergic to youngsters. No Gill again. Manish Pandey is a ttf.

Wow looks like we have no chances for T20.. also whats Dhoni upto nowadays, hopefully he doesn’t show up automatically.

Also washinton shud had been included in both, no point of Kedhar!

Dhawan out of West Indies T20Is with injury, Samson roped in as replacement

India opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan has been ruled out of the three-match home T20I series against West Indies, beginning on 6 December, due to knee injury.

Dhawan had hurt his left knee while playing against Maharashtra in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy – India's domestic T20 competition – in Surat last week. The left-hander was assessed by the BCCI medical team on Tuesday, 11 November, and it emerged that he would need some more time to recover completely. Wicket-keeper batsman Sanju Samson has been roped in as his replacement.

"Dhawan suffered a deep cut on his left knee during a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy game against Maharashtra in Surat," the BCCI said in a statement released on Wednesday, 27 November. "The BCCI Medical Team assessed him on Tuesday to review the healing of his wound. The BCCI Medical Team has suggested that Dhawan needs some more time for his stitches to come off and his wound to heal completely. The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Sanju Samson as Dhawan’s replacement for the T20I series."

Samson was a part of the squad for the three-match T20I series against Bangladesh, but didn't play a single game before being left out of the original 15-member contingent for the West Indies series.

Meanwhile, India's Test wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha sustained a fracture on his right ring finger during the recently concluded pink ball Test in Kolkata against Bangladesh. Saha underwent a successful surgery in Mumbai on Tuesday, and will soon be seen for his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.

Pathetic squads....

Whats the point of Dhawan, Rahul, Jadhav, Pandey etc in any of the squads? Shouldn't Rohit be rested for this series and instead Gill/Shaw or both played?

This guy MSK is such a bad influence on our cricket.

Raina isn't playing domestics

From what I have heard,he has lost interest in the game

Has been missing most of the matches/tournaments in domestics

sick and tired of KLRahul & Kedar... KLRahul plays like my grandma, and kedar looks like my grandma...

Dhawan injured , Samson comes in..

Why they bring shami into T20 side?,he is great in ODIs and test but not in T20.

Also this was a forced change. Dhawan was already injured, wonder why was he still named in both the squads!

Bad news!!Now Rahul will open the innings which will be very bad.

Hope kedar will be given fair well with this series.

Hoping see some magic from Bhuvi .

You should ask IPL fans about this. According to them Bumrah and Pandya shouldn't waste their energy on useless bilateral international matches and keep themselves fresh for an all important season of IPL. :inti

Bumrah isn't skipping games to save his energy. He is seriously injured. He has stress fracture and would take 8-9 months to recover.

He is already back bowling in nets.

He is expected to play in the series vs Australia in January.

Some posters going crazy on KL Rahul.
KL Rahul is doing very well in t20 format. I agree he is not doing well in ODI format.
But in T20's he is best after Kohli and Rohit at this moment.

West Indies are a decent one day and T20 side. It should be a good contest if Gayle turns it on. We know how destructive this man can be when on form. Has Dhoni retired from international Cricket?

Gayle is taking a break.

The fate of the first Twenty20 international of the India-West Indies series scheduled on December 6 in Mumbai at the Wankhede stadium hangs in balance. This follows a communication by the Mumbai police to the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) expressing inability to deploy the police force needed for an international match that day. December 6 marks the first anniversary of Babri Masjid demolition after the Supreme Court’s Ayodhya verdict and the death anniversary of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar for which thousands of followers congregate to celebrate ‘Mahaparinirvan Divas’.

“A Mumbai police representative had come to share the ground situation in our Apex Council meeting today. Senior MCA officials have sought time to meet the Commissioner of Police Sanjay Barve tomorrow where more clarity would be provided, if the match is possible on the scheduled date or not,” an MCA official said.

“We have conveyed to the MCA that on December 6 we are quite pre-occupied as far as the deployment of security bandobast is concerned. No meeting of association officials with either CP or jt CP (law & order) has been held so far but will be held soon. The dialogue is on with them and after the meeting a final decision would be taken,” a senior police officer said.

The services of around 1,200 police personnel and 300 traffic personnel are needed for an international cricket match in Mumbai.

It is learnt MCA officials have also suggested to the police that they be allowed to stage the match with around 25 per cent police force with the rest to be made up of hired private security personnel. “But any such move would need the go-ahead from Mumbai police and modalities can only be worked out after meeting with senior police officials,” the MCA official said.

If Mumbai is unable to stage the game on that day, MCA is exploring the possibility of swapping the third T20 with Hyderabad.

This is again useless selections from MSK Prasad...

Why can't we try T20 specialists? We are again stuck on the same template like ODI and having Rohit, Dhawan, Kohli, Rahul, Manish, Pant and not looking beyond them at all?

For SL meanigless T20s, I would love to have all performers of recent T20 Cup.

1. D. Padikkal ( have set the stage on fire just like List A, 460+ runs, 170 strike rate with 27 sixes)
2. P.Shaw ( Three blazing 50's in 5 matches, destined to be back)
3. S. Gill ( consistent as always, next in line for India)
4. Suryakumar Yadav ( Have to let this guy in now...raining sixes after sixes all around the ground...he has the game for t20 too with all this reverse flicks, scoops and powergame)
5. S. Iyer (c)- Already an India regular and a high strike rate player
6. S. Samson ( just to try him out instead of overrarted Pant)
7. H V patel ( not sold out on shivam dube, Harshal patel is next....21 sixes just behind padikal in six hitting and 18 wickets at economy of under 7 )
8. W. Sunder ( India T20 regular, solid allrounder)
9. M Sidharata / Sai Kishore ( Both has set ablaze but I am really impressed by M Sidhartha...no one been able to line him up and he picked up 11 wickets in 3 matches with economy under 4)
10. D. Chahar ( India T20 regular)
11.T. Natrajan ( next leftarmer quick in line after the failure of Khaleel )

Reserves can be players like Nitish Rana ( have turned into proper all rounder this season), R. Gaikwad ( 419 runs,19 sixes and 60+ strike rate), S. Gopal ( 16 wkts, economy 6 and a useful bat ) and L meriewala ( another leftarmer quick with wickets this season)

It would be travesty with Kohli, Rohit etc., playing against SL...

T.Natarajan is a club level bowler
There is no need of giving him a chance just because he is a left armer . We don't have ant left armer in tests and are doing quite well

Both of those two left arm spinners got their success on dustbowls

Harshal Patel can do well against lower tier FMs but teams like Australia will make him look like joke as they did with Rishi Dhawan

We don't need bowlers who are mental midgets and crumble under pressure like Khaleel, Siraz, Kaul and Umesh Yadav( in T20 )...so we must try out different unortodox bowlers...no harm trying out Natrajan or some rookie to see if we can unearth somebody... Bumrah came from nowhere from the same system...if you can't try even in useless T20, you can never master T20...

Shivam Dubey is no better than Harshal..he too will be destroyed by big hitters...to be honest we don't have replacement for H. Pandya.....shankar, dube and maybe Harshal are not good enough but again you have to try all of them...

The two spinners have impressive figures even on normal pitches ( esp Sai Kishore)_..again you are using these series to unearth somebody ( like Bumrah).... you don't want to waste space on darter like Axar patel when you have an opportunity to try our new blood against weaker team

West Indies name squads for T20Is and ODIs to face India

ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Cricket West Indies selection panel today named the two squads to face India in the One-Day Internationals and T20 Internationals next month. The selectors have kept faith with the players who recently played against Afghanistan in Lucknow, India. West Indies, the reigning ICC World T20 champions, will face India in three T20Is at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Hyderabad on December 6; in Thiruvananthapuram on December 8 and at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, on December 11. Following that series the two teams will meet in three ODIs in Chennai (December 15), in Vizag (December 18) and in Cuttack (December 22).

Speaking on the squad selection, Head Coach Phil Simmons said: “We have three matches in each format, so we wanted to give each squad a chance to compete against India. No disrespect to Afghanistan, but facing India will be a more difficult series. Our players really got the hang of things, with the 3-0 series win in the ODIs (against Afghanistan), and I believe we will move from strength to strength.”

Simmons added: “In the T20s this will be another chance for them to play and develop, and again, with no disrespect to Afghanistan, this should be a stronger T20 country and we will look to see how they perform against India. The next ICC T20 World Cup is in Australia (2020) and the one after that is here in India (2021) so there is a lot of preparation to be done for first for Australia. We have given the players here a chance in this series and we know we have players outside who may be coming in later on as well, so it’s good to give those here another opportunity.”

Good riddance test series is over, Finally it's time for the formats, which people actually care and follow, Looking forward to it.

There's no denying test cricket is old school. But it seems a few have to check on icc revenue model

Test series were played on non metro's for your information.

There's no denying test cricket is old school.
But if one has a look at from where icc generates its revenue from it's pretty clear it definitely isn't from the real format :afridi

Yes you are correct, people in India don't care about test cricket.

I am not asking to select those guys you have mentioned but Natatajan isn't a better option either
Natrajan is 28 and bowls 125-130
The guy hasn't even made any impact in IPL
Will prefer Unadkat over him anyways though I am.not fond of him either
Giving opportunities to u19 boys will be better option

M Sidharth bowled 2 overs,R Sai Kishore bowled just 1 in the SMAT final. If their state team captain isnt showing confidence in them then that means they are not ready for the international Cricket. Unless they prove themselves in IPL,they shouldn't be considered for selection.

Shivam Dube isn't a replacement for Hardik but for now he hasn't done anything wrong. He bowled the game changing spell against BD. So there is no point in dropping for someone like Harshal Patel who isn't any better.

Mayank Agarwal to replace injured Shikhar Dhawan for the upcoming ODI series against West Indies.

IND vs WI: After Shikhar Dhawan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar Ruled Out of ODI Series Against West Indies; Shardul Thakur to Replace Pacer | Reports
Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who returned to the Team India in the T20I series versus West Indies, has suffered another bout of injury

Another blow for Team India ahead of the upcoming three-match ODI series against West Indies as their premier pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been ruled out with an injury. Although there has been no confirmation or official statement by BCCI or Indian team management about Bhuvneshar’s injury yet.

The 29-year-old pacer did not at his very best during the second T20I in Thiruvananthapuram. However, the nature of Bhuvneshwar’s injury remains unknown, but it is believed that it is not related to the hamstring issue. It affected him during the World Cup earlier this year.

Bhuvneshwar had just made a return to the national squad during the T20Is against West Indies. The 29-year-old pacer picked up two crucial wickets of Brandon King and Kieron Pollard in the third and final T20I to contribute to India’s series-clinching win in Mumbai on Wednesday.

India defeated West Indies by 67 runs at Wankhede to claim the series 2-1.

With Navdeep Saini still far away from being match ready, the selection committee headed by MSK Prasad has decided to opt for the services of Shardul Thakur in Bhuvneshwar’s absence. The panel also mulled over the name of Umesh Yadav, who showed good form during the Bangladesh Tests.

If Bhuvneshwar gets ruled out of the ODIs versus West Indies, he will become the second player after regular opener Shikhar Dhawan to miss the home series. Dhawan, who suffered a freak knee injury during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy recently, was replaced by Sanju Samson for the T20I series.

Test opener Mayank Agarwal has taken Dhawan’s place for the ODI series.

West Indies captain Kieron Pollard said that the team has a clear plan about how to approach ODI cricket ahead of their three-match series against India. The first ODI will be played on Sunday at the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai. "We are on a mission and have a clear plan of how to approach 50-over cricket. There is a process and it is something we are actually going through. The results might not show straightaway. We had a good series against Afghanistan. Now, we are coming up against a better side in India," Pollard told reporters on Saturday.

"It's a matter of what we need to do going forward. There are things internally which we are working on. Success will not come overnight. Winning is always good. Sometimes, you play well but the result would not go your way. The Afghanistan series was good and we want to continue in that track. That is the ultimate goal."

West Indies have often hurt from going for big shots in the middle overs and being dismissed quickly. Pollard said that they have a plan on how to approach the situation.

"We have discussed how we want to go about playing middle overs, be it batting or bowling and how we want to play this format. Obviously, we can't reveal what our plans are going to be. The guys are aware of their roles and responsibilities, now it's about executing them," the captain said.

Pollard said that the return of all-rounder Roston Chase to the squad brings a "good balance to the team."

"He is a great asset, he is someone who bats in the middle order in Tests and has centuries too. He can bowl as well. With him in the side, it gives us an opportunity to field another specialist player," said Pollard.

"He has been very valuable for us. He is sort of a left-field selection, but I think that has worked for us. He will play a key part going forward," he added.

The West Indies team have talented young players in Evin Lewis, Shimron Hetmyer and Nicholas Pooran who have struggled with consistency in their fledgling careers.

"It is about preparation," said Pollard. "You will have to realise the potential you have. The guys who are successful eat and sleep cricket. People who want to be great in the future will have to emulate them. For the younger guys in the team, it's about changing your training habits and looking at what you want to achieve.

"I am not saying our guys have not done that. Sometimes, the results just don't reflect. This is something we have spoken about and we are really excited with the bunch of players we have now. These are players who are putting in the hard work behind the scenes. The results will show, but we must have patience. They are actually doing what is required to succeed at this level."

Pollard also said that he is happy as a captain to know that former ODI captain Dwayne Bravo has made himself available for selection for future international T20 matches.

Why shardul Thakur again?
Where is Shiva Mavi and Nagar Koti?
Atleast they should try with prasidhi Krishna who bowled 140+ in IPL.

Enough with Thakur and Khaleel.
Vinay Kumar and praveen Kumar better than Thakur and Khalil.

India fast bowler Deepak Chahar has been ruled out of the third and final one-day international against West Indies with a back injury.

Navdeep Saini, 27, who is still uncapped in ODIs, has been called up as his replacement.

Chahar played in the first two ODIs and returned figures of 1/48 and 0/44. Following the second match in Visakhapatnam that India won by 107 runs, Chahar experienced pain in his back.

"Deepak felt mild pain in his lower back following the second ODI played in Vizag on Wednesday," the BCCI stated in a release on Thursday, 19 December. "The BCCI medical team examined him and has suggested that the fast bowler needs some rest in order to fully recover. He has thus been ruled out of the final ODI."

Saini will join the Indian team as the third seamer in the squad alongside Mohammed Shami and Shardul Thakur. Saini, who made his T20I debut in August this year, has played five matches so far and picked up six wickets. He last played in the third T20I against South Africa in September.

The series decider is due to be played in Cuttack on Sunday, 22 December.
