What are some of the things that've happened to you but you don't tell anyone because they probably won't believe you?

Couldn't fit that in the title. :danish

When I was abducted by aliens and given a tour of their spaceship. no one believed me. :((

got mugged once. scariest experience of my life.

the guy looked drunk to me. i had some money on me and my phone. he threatened me with a knife and took my belongings

i didn't tell my parents because i thought they would get scared and won't allow me again to go out by myself especially at night

i walked home (was about an hour away) and my parents were really angry because i was late and wasn't answering my phone

i told them i lost it and they both got mad at me and i wasn't allowed another phone for a month or so but it was better than telling the truth because it would have made them very paranoid and cautious

Been throught this. Told them right away. No body panicked, not even me.

And?

Have you ever thought about what would've happened if he actually stabbed you?

I'm sorry but I just have say that you're too weak and I don't mean this in a offensive way, rather constructive.

Having just basic knowledge of self defense and martial arts could have helped you a lot in that situation, but it's never too late for anything. If it's happened to you before, what's the guarantee that it won't happen again?

Bro, you can have self defense training but sometimes is it really worth the materilistic things of life for ones life? I mean a phone and money can be replaced. One stab can have fatal consequences. Calling him weak is uncalled for.

:)))

martial arts and all that self defense stuff is great but they are worth zilch in real life

even mcregor would wet his undies if he gets mugged on the streets by an armed guy. that guy probably had a pistol on him as well and he could have shot if i would have retaliated

it is sheer stupidity to resist in a situation like this. the only reason i walked away unharmed was because i didn't do something stupid

i hope something like this never happens to you but if it does i hope you try to pull off your cool martial arts moves as if you are in some movie because if you do you will greatly regret it later on.

Your logic is stupid. Last thing one should do is fight a robber that is drunk and has just assaulted you.

Something similar to this has happened to me. I was lucky enough to escape. This happened earlier this year:

I was looking out towards the beach and a random guy comes stands behind me, I turn around and all of sudden realised that he's there (even at this point he could have just grabbed me from behind). I was like may I help you, he just smiled. I was talking on the phone to a family member telling them that there is a weird guy behind me (obviously not in English). I had a flight to catch the next day to Pakistan. I started walking away from the guy, he started walking after me and a little later started cussing. I was like dude, whats your problem? He just kept on insulting me, and was like "what you going to do..who you talkin too" (can't post the cuss words and other phrases he used). At this point, it was that "fight or flight" mode activated in my brain (or so I think). My mind was going all over the place, thinking of what should I do, I was like I have a flight to catch tomorrow, is it the wisest thing to stand here and try to fight this junky who already has nothing to lose in life.

He took off his vest and started to fling-it at me, I blocked one of the hits and grabbed his vest and threw it on the sand. All of a sudden I saw these cut marks he already had on his body. In my mind I was like, he must have a weapon on him, I'm sure he must have had a knife on him or even a gun, who knows. I remember seeing police officers just outside the beach area before walking to where I was. I knew he couldn't outrun me, so I made him chase me. He came after me, the cops were about 500 ft away. Soon as he realized I was heading towards the cops he changed directions and acted like nothing had happened. I told the cops, pointed him out, and after this have no idea what happened to him.

Coming to the point if you know martial arts and all this good stuff (I have taken martial arts, and the block I used when he was flinging his vest at me was with the help of my martial arts training), it can come in handy if you train your body and brain properly, they must be in sync. Most of the time it's not worth the materialistic things in life, as I mentioned above they can always be replaced. Self-defense is a great tool to learn but at the same time, one has to be realistic. In my case, my priority was I was going to Pakistan with my family, something like this could have caused a drastic change in events if I had stood there and decided to take him on.

Personally, I learned a lot from this experience, never had anything like this happen to me before, I did freeze up for a second. The human mind is an amazing tool, and at that time it felt that I had slowed my thought process down to figure out exactly what I wanted to do and what would be the best approach to the situation.

I thank Allah for this everytime I think about it, I think it could have been worse, but Allah has his ways of protecting us.

Already has happened and "I don't <strike>greatly</strike> regret it later on".

It's weird seeing so much lack of self confidence among people here but not surprised because in south asian culture, you're taught from a very young age that "fighting is bad".

So last Thanksgiving - me and a few of my cousing were visiting my uncle (mamoo) in Canada.

We came to their house to have dinner and I had planned to stay the night.

Unforunately - what started off as just messing/fooling around quickly escalated into a fight with one of my cousins that got physical.

Won't go into the details but I ended up getting hit in the head with a vase lol.

Needless to stay I was really struggling to control my temper at the time...

Thankfully - things cooled down pretty soon and my uncle/aunt and cousins apologized to me later on (not the one who hit me however lol)

My uncle and cousins pleaded me not to tell my parents - the reason being they would get angry and upset and their relations would deteriorate with the parents of my cousin who hit me (and also my uncle and aunt whose house I was visiting for not managing the situation probably - even though they had nothing to do with it but that is how desi families work lol)

Hence I agreed to keep quiet.

Thankfully - we are now all cool with each other and meet and talk normally so that is good I guess.

When I went to Pakistan last december - one of my cousins who was with me in Canada - asked if I told anyone about that incident and I said no lol

I think it was the right thing to do.

IMO the only time you should engage in combat if you are getting get attacked.

If someone is asking for your belongings - it is probably best to just let it go rather than risk your life.

That's fair enough.

I agree with you. I'll leave the materialistic things aside, what are the chances he would've fought back if the drunk guy actually attacked him?

yes of course it did and you left 5 men on their backsides with your martial arts :))

everyone is a tough guy behind a computer screen :)

too bad i am not a rambo like you :)

you cannot

the only thing you can hope for in a situation like this is that the mugger will not physically harm you if you hand over your stuff in peace

but if he still proceeds to hurt you than you cannot do anything about it unless you wish to make it worse for yourself

criminals are wary as well and no wants more trouble than they can afford

Whatever floats your boat. I'm not going to argue this anymore.

no need of being a tough guy because the real life does not work like that

you might beat up a few pansies and think that you are tough but sooner or later you will meet your match or someone who will put you in your place and then you will realize that life is not a movie

my advice to you is get over your tough guy syndrome and grow up otherwise you will regret it one day and someone will beat you up very badly :)

great post bro

you did the right and sensible thing. kids will call it cowardly but that is how life works

you have to be practical and not try to be a wannabe tough guy

Yes, I know.

Anyone who thinks that they'll always win are just delusional, because the real life does not work like that.

Few years back , early morning, i fainted in the bathroom and fell on the bathtub. I don't know for how many minutes i was out. But these were at maximum 5 minutes. When i woke up i got scared because when in senses i was actually standing beside the basin. But then i gathered myself and checked if i was ok. Thankfully, no injuries , i had found a perfect way to land on the bathtub.
It never happened again.

I believe you. Did they look like ET?
Nah, holiday reps. That's why they gave me a tour of their spaceship. I guess they must have been from the aliens marketing and tourism department. Either that, or they were trying to sell me time-share cabins on the cruise-spaceship.

This is the dumbest thing I've read. When you're being robbed on gunpoint or with any other weapon, DON'T be a hero. Resisting over a material object isn't worth it. People have actually died for resisting robbers. Bad advice like this can get somebody in trouble.

Are you kidding me.....

No self defense can help you if there's a guy who knows how to use a dagger.
