The likes of Hafeez, Malik, Wahab, Sarfaraz are in all likelihood playing their final game today. It has been a long career for them with lots if ups and downs. Also the likes of Mortaza from BD is playing his final game it seems.

How do you feel about the end of these players in international cricket? Personally i feel we should not hate them too much for failures in this world cup. They have been around for so many years and have given some moments of joy to the fans.

Agree, but system needs an overhaul... So merit takes preference over experience at all cost.

In 2015 I was happy about good riddance from Misbah, Younis and Afridi. In 2019 I'm happy about good riddance from Hafeez and Malik.

Sarfraz - looked good when on song. After all he was the captain who won us another ICC tournament.

Malik - played really well from 2015-2017. Carried our team. Loved those sixes. Bashed India in his early days.

Hafeez - a great allrounder. :steyn

Wahab - turned up during WC’s and tournament. Will never forget his spell against Australia.

Sarfraz
Malik
Wahab
Hafeez

All 4 must go as they wont be good enough for the next WC.

No emotions whatsoever. I think shoaib akhtars retirement was the last time I felt anything for the retirees. It's unfortunate all of our old timers retire on such bad notes. They basically get kicked out of the team.

I think Wahab may stick for two more years, Sarfaraz has lost his way, we need a better captain. Malik/Hafeez are almost 40 they need to go. I would add Fakhar and Hasan Ali as well, though I believe Hasan will stick around.

Wahab still has a place. Hafeez was 16 years of most perfect 20s and 30s without ever finishing anything, we will not miss him. Malik was gone past 2009 so its 10 years too late. Sarfraz, i am torn here, he doesn't offer enough as a keep or as a captain but he can be auseful number 4, which he absolutely refuses to be, so yeah chuck him out.

Dont think Wahab has a place now. We should plan for next world cup. He cant be in those plans.

We need to plan for the now, we planned for every single wc since 2003 and we entered every single wc, barring 2011, without knowning our best eleven or our best eleven being hopelessly inadequate

I have a soft spot for Wahab. Yes he can be a bit of a scatter gun, and yes a bit brainless at times. But honestly bat or ball in hand, you can tell he'll take the game on. Given how timid a lot of our cricketers are, I find his willingness to take the game by the scruff of the neck really refreshing.

Regarding the other players mentioned... good riddance!

Given that if they're actually kept out.

Shoaib: Had a decent early half. Will remember that part for few cool chases and a 50/100 here and there. But he ruined him self like all other Pakistanis by playing till old age. Was a useless baggage for most of years.

Hafeez: A fine stroke-maker and a leftie killer, could have done lot better if he could manage his career better. His timing was sweet till his stay.

Fakhar: Was a hack who managed to hit few 50/100s in his early days. Won us CT final but got us kicked out of WC, something which was predicted.

Wahab: Was a sentimental powerhouse, but a scattergun with a ball who often used to get his act together in big WC games. Used to wack few around.

Hasan Ali: A hard working bowler got carried by early success. Ahmad Shahzad of bowling.

Sarfaraz: Once an oxygen for test batting lineup, his fitness got so bad that he became a liability in ODI batting lineup. Was winning captain of CT however.

Sarfraz is the only one id be sad about He lead the team brilliantly 2 years back however both his batting and captaincy has fallen with his fitness

Ive felt sorry for him this tournament the way hes been treated The issues is in the team are partly his fault but the rest of the tesm do also need to take a fare share of responsibility

Hed be the only one who has had his moments The rest hafeez malik and wahab have been pretty mediocre throughout the career

I would keep Wahab for couple of years more. World cup is not the only cricket we play for. Youngsters can learn from him , particularly his never say die attitude.

Malik
If i am not mistaken he scored 4 consecutive fifties against india in 2006 which was highlights for me
Hafeez
Won't forget his pathetic shot in 2011 worldcup semifinals which push the panic button.

But his love with left handed batsmen will always be in mind

Wahab raiz
Obviously 2011 spell against india will never forget .it was superb bowling from him.and his fifer against England in 2010 test

Could have done more for pak but massively under achieved

Sarfraz

His 40s against sa in 2015 was very entertaining to watch .but that contribution to azhar ali partnership chasing impossible chase was great to watch .

Malik
Bye have a nice day, wait haven't we`ve been saying that for the past 10 years?!
Hafeez:
No Hafeez we aren`t going to have another series against Zimbabwe, bye bye.
Sarfraz:
Earthquake!!
Hassan Ali:
Show us your magic at the wagah border now after you come back to Pakistan.

malik has just announced retirement..i expect the same from hafeez..wahab has couple of yrs in him..you dont griw 90kph bowlers on tree and we need him..also i think saffy is going no where

What next for Pakistan? Build a team for Australia T20WC or India (2021/2023)

Next ICC tournaments are

T20 WC in Australia in late 2020 - Pakistan are in a tough group with hosts Aus, world champions WI, NZ and 2 qualifiers with top 2 going to the semis.

Next up in another T20 WC in India in late 2021 (pencilled in as the new CT) and then the WC in India in early 2023.

Conditions obviously differ a lot between Australia and India.

Should Pakistan start building a team for 2021/2023 (offspinner, wicket taking leggie) or try and give chances to players who could bat and bowl wel in Aussie conditions?

Here are my thoughts on the T20 side:

Fakhar, Babar, Haris, Sarfraz, Asif, Imad, Faheem, Amir and Shadab

These 9 players should be locks.

Need 4 pacers at least. Aside from Faheem and Amir, I will go with Wahab and either Hasnain or Shaheen. That's 11.

Akmal had a good PSL. His poor ODI performance shouldn't affect this. He should be in the T20 side. Ahsan and Nawaz had good PSLs also. But hopefully they won't have to play.

Fakhar Zaman
Babar Azam
Haris Sohail
Sarfraz Ahmed*+
Asif Ali
Imad Wasim
Faheem Ashraf
Wahab Riaz
Shadab Khan
Mohammad Amir
Shaheen Shah Afridi
-----------------------------------
Mohammad Nawaz
Umar Akmal
Mohammad Hasnain
Ahsan Ali

Some notable emissions: Hasan, Shinwari (poor form); Malik, Hafeez (age).

As for ODIs, Let's look at the current squad:
Imam, Fakhar, Babar, Haris, Hafeez, Malik, Asif, Sarfraz, Imad, Shadab, Wahab, Amir, Hasan, Shaheen, and Hasnain.

Who should make it to 2023?

Imam, Babar, Haris, Imad, Shadab, Hasan, Amir, Shaheen and Hasnain.

Haris Sohail and Imad Wasim are two key players who must improve their fitness.

Shadab Khan and Hasan Ali on current form, don't deserve to be selected, but I back them to improve.

What is needed in India? Spinners. Problem is, Pakistan don't have any. Absolutely none.

Zafar Gohar looks to be the best spinner, I doubt he is on the radar as of now, but he can put himself up there.

Rizwan is in good form and I think he should make it. Rohail Nazir and Umair Masood should also be groomed.

Need a hard hitting opener. I will put Fakhar's name there, but on current form he doesn't deserve it.

For backup batsman I'll pick Sami Aslam and Saif Badar.

Imad needs to play as a batting all-rounder and is the best option as captain.

So this is my XI, 4 years in advance:

Fakhar Zaman
Imam ul-Haq
Babar Azam
Haris Sohail
Mohammad Rizwan+
Imad Wasim*
Shadab Khan
Hasan Ali
Zafar Gohar
Mohammad Amir
Shaheen Shah Afridi

They should win it.

Very interesting thread

One builds a team to win in any circumstance
All weather players will help pak better

You guys have good bowlers . Decent batters

- get two world class spinners
- improve the fielding
- stop playing Zimbabwe Nepal Maldives etc
- play india more. Play ur home matches in india if india does not travel - u won’t get better prep than playing against india in india or playing against aussie in Aussie

This pak team is inconsistent but very talented . I m indian but of all pak teams I saw last 15 years , this one was the best

Good post. Some really nice memories there.

Malik - likeable guy, was excellent in his comeback post 2015 but his form in the last year dipped. Good riddance
Hafeez - don't think he will retire, he may be kicked out though, a selfish player but has won us a lot of games too
Wahab - he done good in this WC, our selectors rarely think long-term, I think he will stay for the next series, erratic at times but always gives his best
Sarfaraz - made a scapegoat too much, a lot of hate he gets is undeserved, although his captaincy has been poor at times. He rarely gets to bat in a match situation suited for him.
