I think Grant Flower might be producing some results at times, but what really hurting is his inefficiency as a leader. He almost conceded that Asad And Azhar will lead the way, but that is not happening. These guys can not sustain the pressure as a leader[ prime example Azhar Ali captaincy tenure] They are happy to be sticking to themselves. I think thats what team management needs to do, ask them perform for yourself, and should fine some one else Babar, or any other person to be a batting leader.
1) Tell me one thing , are Indian batters of today are product of Ravi Shastri, Sanjay Bangar coaching or are they product of their own?
2) So if coaches do not have much impact then why we need them?
To help team remain focussed, help them do their trainings, help them to strategize, help them and make them aware of match situation from the outside view, help them to get the result as a team not as an individual.
3) Then why not hire local greats?
The politics they bring, ego issues they carry, differences with some members in the team, in-fighting, agendas, etc.
That is why needed a DANDA master like Mickey, which I think was totally right.
4) Then why poor results to show?
We can not go hard on team every time, for most of them this is their first tour to south africa. Team is pretty new. Except for Azhar and Asad who has played more than 40 test matches? None.
And if we look at the South Africa side, they have Amla, Elgar, Du Plesis, Steyn, Philander, DeKock [many are playing international cricket for at least 8 years or more]
We had the moments in the series, unfortunately because of experience we could not cash in. This is what learning is, to learn from mistakes, not to keep repeating it.
5) Why not bring domestic performers, then?
Except for very few, many are not even at that level. Time and again they failed miserably. Can any one forget how many chances Akmals got, how many chances Khurram Manzoor got? What did they achieve during their playing days?
6) So does that mean, everything was right? Absolutely not?
Team management and selectors really need to answer few questions:
--Why we are still struggling to find good opening pair in any format?
--What Imam is doing in the team? He is technically deficient, and don't have numbers in test cricket?
--Why Saad Ali and Salahuddin dropped?
--Now we do not even have front line seamer? After his return, except for 1/2 notable performances, he is mediocre at best. Can team management look beyond him?
--Why Shadab Khan, Haris Sohail, Imad wasim keep getting injured?
