KARACHI: Anchorperson Aamir Liaquat Hussain’s television channel expressed fears that he was stopped at the Yangon airport by immigration authorities on Saturday and put under detention.

The chief news officer for Bol News, Faysal Aziz Khan, told Dawn that Mr Hussain had been sent to Myanmar to cover the plight of Rohingya Muslims there.

“[At the airport in Yangon] he was asked about the purpose of his visit and Aamir Liaquat spoke the truth. Since then we have had no contact with him,” Mr Khan said.

He said that Mr Hussain might be deported to Bangkok, where he had boarded the Yangon-bound flight.

It's fascinating how he went from being a politician to a religious tv show host to a game show host and then to a news anchor with hardly any qualifications. Amiir was just trying to be a hero by entering a war zone to help suffering Muslim's. A very stupid decision in the first place, when people are escaping in hundreds and thousands he is going the opposite direction. Even Allah has told us to use our head more then the heart. The Burmese government would never allow him, Waqar or such people to help, he is lucky to be alive. Amir is not always wrong, neither is he always right.
