There have been threads raising concerns regarding wicket keeping if Sarfaraz is out for a game and Abid was mentioned as a backup.

That makes up a case for Abid’s inclusion but not a strong case.

However if Abid scores a century with SR of 120 then who makes way for Asif ?

The bigger question would still be that even if Abid is in the squad would he get priority over Imam ?

Would be just fun to see the response of management if Abid does well today

Abid can score a 200 off 100 balls, Inzi will still dump him for the World Cup.

I wish he was given at least 2 matches, he does have the potential to do so much better than Imam ul Haq on these types of pitches.

Has shots, which Imam lacks.

We will still lose.Dont worry. There is not a single Pakistani batsman who can help us win

Why’s Abid thought of as some one better than Imam after one hundred?

His List A strike rate is 80 and his T20 SR is 102 so it doesn’t look like he’ll make much of difference.

Even if he did Mickey won't drop his favourite Imam. He has invested too much in him.

I doubt Abid will get to three figures today considering his high risk game. Unlike Imam he does like to go for his shots from the moment on.

Abid could score a double ton today and still imam would play ahead of him.

Abid and Imam are cut from the same cloth, although Imam has some performances under his belt. We need one of Asif Ali or Umar Akmal to replace Abid Ali for WC

Need to keep going for wickets here england still have plenty of batting here.

Have to make way for Asif . . Only two options . . Abid and Shoaib . . and we all know Shoaib Malik isn't going anywhere . . so, I think regardless of what he does today, he will be on a flight back home in a couple of days

Even a quickfire 50 by him in ‘a winning’ cause would be better than Imam’s 150 in loosing cause

Agreed...

More than his 150 his 6(20) was definitely why we lost the last match.... had he even scored 15(20) we would have won. Also before people come up with excuses that he got hit and what not, let me remind them that he was batting at 3(13) even before he got hit. Imam has not won a single match for Pak but definitely has caused a few defeats.

I really hope he scores a century. The selectors should have to walk over coals to select hafeez and Malik over performing newbies

If we scored more than England would have batted accordingly.

We would have won the 2nd ODI and 4th ODI if specialist captain had a brain.

I think Hafeez is kind of necessary in this lineup because of his bowling and lack of spinners in the side, also he is one of the few people we got who can actually clear the fence. I agree about Malik though.

Depends on the strike rate of his century.

If it is a good strike rate throughout the innings say 130 then he has a chance of taking imams opening slot.

However if it is run a ball, then Imam will continue opening.

Well he has to score a century today to have any chance to be in the squad

If he doesnt score a century then he needs to go back after today

You have disapppointed us Abid

No century=No place in the WC squad

Chalo. Well played Abid. Your merit selection was highly required.

Another over hyped player . Exposed on batter bowling lineup the pitch is belter still can't score run.
Pity this team specially selectors.

He is a one match hero like salim ilahi & navid latif. I am seeing that his career will not go too long.

Marginal decision today, umpire's call just grazing the stumps.

Interesting that Nasser Hussain spotted a technical flaw - back foot issue, not going across enough.

The "Abid is better than Imam" crowd should be quiet for a while. Abid is average and 31 years old, there is no way he should be playing ahead of Imam who is our most reliable batsman.

You are doing the same thing by calling him average as those knee jerk reactors who were praising Abid after debut century. No difference there.

Secondly, he got unlucky today if you watch the dismissal.

He is almost 32, but he has visible technical issues which should have been ironed out by now. Imam is technically superior in spite of being 9-10 years younger. I have no issues with Abid serving as backup opener, but there is no way he should be playing over Imam.

I agree with you regarding Imam as our first choice and Abid as back-up opener, but unfortunately now our selector will have a reason to select Asif Ali ahead of him even though we don't have a back-up keeper either.

In how many matches Abid kept the wickets? Can you provide his wicket keeping stats?

Feel sorry for him tbh, I think a neutral umpire would probably have given that not out and he would still be there on review. Never been a fan of the umpires call as that always favours the home side.

Abid Ali can have more chances after the WC, it was too late to include him in the WC team, he should not have been selected on the back of one century

WHy you guys hate Imam soo much? the guy is performing and avgs high. He cored 150 against England for gods sake

No one from Pakistan's domestic cricket comes with perfect technique. Some learn after selection in national team and survive, some don't and fade away quickly. That's why selection of almost 32 in not a great idea. You can afford to invest in a younger batsmen for 2-3 years but not on an older one.

Feel sad for Abid but this is the way it goes!

Throw him in the 5th ODI with no match practice and only as a backup for Imam and did everyone expect him to score a 50 or century. He probably didnt even know until an hour before that he is selected to open the innings.
Can't just throw a player with no time in the middle in an ODI chasing 353.

imaam and Babar are the anchors of pak team, whoever hate him dont know cricket, its 50 over game not 10..

Unlucky to only get one game.Opening combo is sorted but we could have done with backup.

He doesn't have a long term future . He is "31" , is reflexs will decline. He should have gotten a chance earlier in his career.

I don’t think Abid will lose his place. Mickey has hinted that Abid is the backup keeper. I think Faheem and Junaid will get the chop.

Probably the most unlucky person in Pak cricket right now.

Treated like trash all these years, given one chance where he scored a 100.

Then, taken to ENG tour and treated like disposable trash again - didn't get a single game to showcase what he can do.

Got the last game, and everyone wanted him to bat like Viv Richards or else he's "no good!!".

Needs to be given more chances before we can dump him for good, but so far he's been treated very badly.

Bang on! Hope this shuts up some people who still believe Imam is '******'. People, who clearly have little knowledge of cricket, are so quick to point the finger at Imam without realizing Abid's style of plan is similar to Imam's. You'd think his SR was 100+ the way people act as if he's a better option than Imam. I'm not bashing Abid here, in fact, I feel very sorry for him, but I'm mainly bashing the Imam haters.

No way he plays over Imam. He has played 3 innings so far 112, 0 and 5.

Too early to call him the Messiah. Only scored once.
