What's new

What is life's biggest "trap" people fall into?

you need straight A's in school college and university otherwise you won't get a high job and won't get anywhere in life

From what I've seen and heard, ditching or forgoing a potentially amazing scholarship or top tier university for a lesser university for a girl and then regretting it few years later.

Thinking other people are satisfied and figured out everything in their lives while you have not.

Working for others and becoming a modern day slave in order to consume.

Also getting married young :D

Marriage.

Completely agreed, if you are marrying because your beliefs requires you to be married in order to have a family then and only then should one get married. If not, there is absolutely no reason for this. You can stay with the other person for as long as you wish or it makes both of you happy.

Marriage.

Getting caught in this consumer lifestyle. Everything's for sale and plenty of buyers for them. Learning what is necessary and what must be avoided is damn crucial.

Try telling that to woman. Most buy stuff that they really don't need. Retailers know that and target them specifically.

Religion, Marriage & assuming the debt based financial system we live under is the norm.

Marriage

1. You cannot hang out with "the boys" anymore (or as often as you like)
2. Your income is split between two or more people now
3. You are always wrong even when you are right
4. Before any decision you have to think about "us" rather than "me"
5. You have to frequently go shopping and just stand there while she takes her sweet time
6. You hardly get a chance to decide what to watch on tv when both are together (the iPad has been a God-send)
7. You come home from a stressful day at work and you have to "talk" rather than shut out the world
8. You have to meet the in-laws (some of them are fun tho)

I can go on and on....

But marriage has many benefits too, especially if you marry your best friend.

Marriage has brought financial burden on me, but waiting for my wife to start earning in a few months and then I will start counting the benefits.

The worst part is retailers will ramp up the price and then put 50% sale to bring it back to the original price and this will instantly create a euphoria amongst buyers (read women) to buy it.

If we look at human history then following should be the list:

- Religion
- Leaving the carefree hunter/gathers life style for the hardships of agri based life style.
- Capitalism-which has put almost everything above human dignity and even place $# on human relationships (though CC was joking in his post above in this thread but that's the situation of majority mindset, and tragically, people put $# on themselves)
- "good degree" from "good school" to have a "great career"
- Nationalism

Most widespread - keeping up with the Jones.

There's a store in Toronto (I forget the name) and they had an "80% CLOSING SALE" sign up for 4 years while rotating products.

The prices were marked up and then slashed by 80%.

I had a good chuckle every time I passed by.

Wish I could just travel the world and not worry about anything.

No wonder Scandinavians and Australians have the highest standard of living. Having minimum 6weeks of mandatory paid vacation is SWEET.

Marrying for the sake of a lady being pretty. Later most turn out to be money grabbers and terrible people.

But what if they're ugly/average (in your eyes) and still a money grabber?

Is that life's doosra? :murali

Saving some food for later in the fridge and then waiting patiently the whole day to go home and eat it....

Then seeing it's gone.

Settling for short-term comfort instead of sacrificing it for long-term happiness.

Running away in midst of adversity, and making a habit of the same.

Trying to judge your life by comparing yourself to others

He has a better job than me
She has a better boyfriend
Their kid is smarter than ours
He's a more successful serial killer than me......

Marriage is the winner of this thread. Its the biggest trap ever for both men and women.

I don't think most people will be interested in marrying an ugly person in the first place. Human nature:misbah4
