What's new

What is our worst performance in an ICC tournament?

2007 WC - Couldn't watch the game as there was no electricity due to snow. While listening to news on Radio found Ireland has beaten Pak by 3 wickets. Couldn't believe at all.

2015 WC - Got thrashed by India and WI - can never forget 0-4 vs WI. Then almost lost to Zim too but somehow bowling saved us.

2023 WC - With familiar conditions, team was supposed to do good and was considered one of the strong contenders for SF. Rain saved us in NZ match, otherwise it was a horrible performance

2024 T20 - Bottling against India when we required 40 of 40 balls with 7 wickets in hand. Lost to USA refreshing the memories of 2007 WC. Overall horrible performance and worst among the all.

Thanks to that fraud waterboy
Sarfaraz was a good waterboy and lucked out because of Amer and Fakhar. If Bhumrah didn't bowl the no ball we likely would have lost that just like the first game. Sarfaraz oversaw some of Pakistan's worst defeats in tests and destroyed the winning legacy in UAE left by Misbah. As a keeper and batsman he was utterly mediocre with a very limited array of strokes. Truly Pakistan's worst captain and one of the least deserving players of the 21st century.

Bhai have some shame.

Rizwan's been freeloading in this team since 2020. In those 5 years we have failed to win a single ICC trophy, a single Asia cup and have lost a test series to Bangladesh and a game vs West Indies at home.

I would have thought after our worst champions trophy outing that some self reflection would have been done but it seems as though ignorance really is a bliss

Worst moments under Safi: Losing to Bangladesh once in the Asia Cup, narrowly missing out on a semi spot in the world cup

Worst moments under Rizwan and his gang of 4: losing against Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup, losing to India by 200 runs, losing to Afghanistan for the first time, losing to Bangladesh at home 2-0, losing a test vs West Indies, losing to the USA for the first time, losing to Zimbabwe for the first time in t20 world cups, failing to qualify for the semis at our first home tournament in 20+ years, losing to England and Australia at home.

Even in the 2018 Asia Cup (Sarfaraz's worst tournament), Pakistan has finished 3rd while in the Asia Cup 2023, they finished 4th!

Bhai I liked Sarfraz especially in 2015 WC

But he was never consistent after CT 17 he became complacent and his batting and wicket-keeping and performance gone downhill

In CT 17 he played that scratchy innings against SL special thanks to perera

He was replaced by much superior batsman and keeper Rizwan that's the reality

2003 and 2007 , had a good team back then and exited out poorly...

2003 against India after scoring 270+ and cannot defend with the bowlling unit of Waqar , Wasim , Akthar , Razzaq , Afridi

Waqar was the captain and single handedly lost the match defending a good score , alongwith him Akthar who was taken to cleaners in his first over but had to contain the remaining 9 overs did decent enough...

1) 2024 T20 World Cup. Playing a Super Over vs USA made the game seem closer than it was as USA were comfortable for almost the entirety of their chase. A total stranger to cricket watching would've struggled identifying Pakistan as the Full Member nation.

Losing to India despite needing run a ball with plenty of wickets in hand was the turd on top. There were no positives in this campaign.

2) 2007 World Cup - like the 2024 T20 World Cup we had the easiest group on paper. West Indies were well into their post-90s decline and we always beat Zimbabwe. Ireland had never played a World Cup. Then Woolmer's sudden death turned a cricketing tragedy to a real tragedy.

3) 2015 World Cup - Although we were eliminated in the group stage of the following two World Cups, I feel this was our lowest as a white-ball side. Barely anybody made a run and the only batsman who did scored them at a glacial pace. The bowling had its moments but were unreliable. No quality spinner as Ajmal was banned. Without Hafeez there wasn't a proper allrounder so with Afridi a tailender by this point, the team was horribly imbalanced with tail starting at 7-8. We also carried Irfan who could barely field.

4) 2003 World Cup - dire. We only beat Namibia and Netherlands (even then we laboured to victory). Too many players past their primes meant lethargic performances, compounded by Waqar's defensive captaincy. Inzy was unfit and horribly out of form. Reportedly it was a divided camp too with not everyone on speaking terms. The post-tournament clearout was totally justified.
