What is PCB possibly trying to achieve with a tri-series between Pakistan, Afghanistan, and UAE?

The move seems aimed at giving the team exposure to UAE conditions, but it comes with trade-offs—Pakistan-Afghanistan matches are always intense, and shifting them out of Pakistan may disappoint home fans. While Sri Lanka or Bangladesh were preferred alternatives, the PCB appears to be prioritizing practicality over popularity.

As Per Reports:

The Asia Cup 2025 faces uncertainty due to India-Pakistan border tensions, with no official confirmation from the ACC, PCB, or BCCI on its status. If postponed, it could impact the highly anticipated India-Pakistan clash in the T20 World Cup 2026.

To prepare for the tournament, the PCB is considering a tri-series with Afghanistan and UAE, especially if the Asia Cup moves to a neutral venue like UAE. However, some fans are unhappy with UAE’s inclusion and prefer Sri Lanka or Bangladesh instead.

Pakistan and Afghanistan share a strong cricket rivalry, and shifting their bilateral series to UAE instead of Pakistan could lead to backlash from home fans if the Asia Cup is ultimately postponed. Discussions between cricket boards are ongoing, and an official update on the tri-series is expected soon.

A win over UAE would give a little confidence boost and might convince some that Pakistan is an elite T20 team again...

The purpose is more and more games for the young side. They have a first XI in mind. It’s only going to gel in and get stronger the more and more they play. So it’s a good thing

No it will not you RizBar fan

It will only give the team more game time to gel in as a unit. This is necessary for the transitional period 🤡

According to Riz/Bar fans, Babar and rizwan need exposure as they are young and classy.

Who said I'm a RizBar fan? Whatever that means...

I'm not a 12 year old child. I'm not a fan of any individual. I follow the Pakistan cricket team and just find it amusing how quickly Pakistan cricket fans will cling on to anything that fits whatever agenda they are following.

You say it's a transitional period. I've heard that said so many times over the decades that it's meaningless now.

There is nothing bad about this series but a stronger team would have been a better thing here like Sri Lanka instead of UAE.

This will be a good platform for this current Pakistan side to test themselves against better sides in t20 format... Afghan side is definitely the one to face on those spin-supporting tracks.

This is a good idea and hopefully other countries replicate it. A Tri series with a weaker country can give them exposure and grow the game. Pakistan hasn't been great in T20 recently but is still a big draw however I think the Afghans will be favourites

Playing cricket is more important for Pakistan right now. Playing on the ground in proper games gives you opportunity to try new ideas. Maybe try and push some all rounders up the order , to see how they bat when more overs are available.

A stronger team would have been better , but something is better than nothing.

Hope pak invites USA for a t20 series. Should be a cracker and i believe more eyeballs than a pak-uae or pak-ban game . 🙂

Afghanistan vs pakistan will be a good game however pakistan will be able to minimise the threat from Afganistan spinners
