What is the basis of Muhammad Musa Khan’s selection for Test cricket?

I can’t give you a justification, but I can give you my interpretation, as a practising psychiatrist.
1. I need to put my own imprint on this team now that I have taken over.
2. I skippered the guys in their thirties and they are loyal to me.
3. I will even add Imran Khan to the squad: he always did a job for me in the UAE.
4. I’m culling all the younger guys who were loyal to Arthur. Bye bye Shadab and Faheem, I’ll bench Abbas (whom I never picked til just before I retired.) I’m also keeping out the 20-somethings who are friends with the Arthur loyalists of the same age. And Rahat, whom Arthur rated.
5. I’m going to pad out the team with youngsters so I look progressive and dynamic: Naseem can be the third seamer behind Shaheen and Imran. And Musa won’t actually have to play.
6. So my attack is a pair of world class youngsters (Shaheen and Naseem) plus two players whom I’ve always trusted (Yasir and Imran).
7. What could possibly go wrong? It’s not like Yasir might fail again. It’s not like Imran might fail again.
After having watched Musa bowl in the psl and last night, I don't think he will ever be successful. Unfortunately he lacks height to get the ball to rise of a full length. It's literally like facing a ball machine or receiving flat darts. As a batsman regardless of how fast he is bowling I can comfortably come on the front foot and play all my shots, even on the up. If he pitches it short I can see it so early due to him having to land it closer to him that I can rock back and pull or cut. If Musa is unable to swing the ball like a Jimmy Anderson, he will never make it. Reminds me of Bilawal Bhatti to be honest.

Too many conspiracy theories to be honest.
I do not like misbah the cricketer and now i also do not like misbah the coach but i have mothing personal against misbah and by all accounts misbah is a thoroughly decent human being!
This is my take on why musa was selected.
Just before mickey arthur's contract ended, the test bowlers for pakistan were
Amir
Wahab
Abbas
Shaheen
Hasan ali
Amir and wahab retired suddenly.
Hasan is injured.
So only shaheen and abbas are available to misbah.
Who is in domestics that misbah can select
Imran khan snr
Ehsan adil
These two he knows and have played with him for pakistan. Imran was successful and eshan wasnt.
So misbah goes back to what he knows worked and picked imran.
So far we have
Shaheen
Abbas
Imran
Misbah needs at least 2 more pacers, he gos back to the domestics, but he does not rate any of the established bowlers , remembering that misbah was playing for pak less than3 years ago and knows the established bowlers from 3 year back.
So misbah inquires who are the best new fast bowlers to play in domestics in the last 3 years and is told that the new fast bowlers in domestics are
Naseem shah
Musa khan

Being familiar with hasnain from the world cup just ended, musbah decides to try out the new boys because he knows that there is no one in domestics apart from these boys. So misbah selects hasnain for t20s as he is already playing odis for pak. That leaves naseem and musa. Misbah selects these two for the aussie tests.
To be fair to misbah, he is not too wrong, there is not much in domestics when it comes to fast bowlers, he can really only try these 3 and if they fail as well, its pretty much game over for pak fast bowling for the moment, until a new batch of bowlers break through.
The only 3 bowlers misbah could really of selected were:
Eshan adil(who had failed under misbah)
Sameen gul
Haris rauf
And thats my take on the situation

Naseem had performances that merited selection.
Musa was just picked because he bowled 140+.
I feel sorry for the lad because he is not ready but is being forced in without any real experience or first class performances. This battering by Aus could ruin him.

So amir and wahab retiring at the same time has left pakistans fast bowling in the same predictament that pakistans batting was in, three years ago, when its two most senior batsman retired at the same time - misbah and younis.
Amir and wahab being the senior two fast bowlers for pakistan and retiring at the same time , is the reason we are in this mess, also hasan's injury did not help.
PCB need to plan better and stop relying on a handful of players to play for pakistan. They should try to introduce a new bowler and batsman at least every year or we will find ourselves in this mess again.
WARNING: yasir does not have long left in his career, he may be bang average outside asia but in asia and uae in particular, he is a superstar.
Who have PCB lined up to replace him when he retires?
This will be the next crisis for pak cricket, after the batting crisis and now the fast bowling crisis.

He played two more games after this, and did decently.
Even in PSL he was good, but hasn't played in the past 3 years.
Another bowler I think you'd like is Arshad Iqbal, he is similar to Ehsan. Both tall and from the u19 set up.
Misbah's thinking is very muddled. .
No disrespect to Musa, but I see NOTHING in his bowlign that will make him successful in the long run at this stage . .he is still young so he can go work on it . .
He doesn't have the height . . he doesn't ahve the pace . . (No, averaging 140 to 143 isn't considered pace today . . everyone balls that quick) . . he can't move the ball . . he can't seam the ball with his action . . he is skiddy so without any of those factors, a perfect bowler for the batsman . .
You have to really question the wisdom behind Musa's inclusion in national cricket let alone test cricket . .
Naseem, I can see potential at least . . he is faster than anyone . . he is even faster than hasnain on average which was a major surprise for me . .
If he couldn't have played 2 test matches, why on earth did they take him? Ridiculous thinking . .
Losing doesn't hurt me . . Getting thrashed on the field doesn't hurt me either . . btu when you mess up off the field with your thinking, plans, etc . . that's just infuriating . .and Misbah is taking that to a whole new level!
