Any thoughts?

Don't think any of them are friends they just share a professional relation. So no soft spot for eachother

2 players with dodgy actions, Nasir Jamshed (we know what happened to him)....

Horrible ODI captain-batsman in 2012-13 .... much better ODI captain-batsman in 2023?

We don't have Julian Fountain anymore.

Under Julian Fountain and Steve Rixon, our fielding standards had improved drastically. Steve Rixon had a very powerful system which ensured that all the fielders were fully switched on when practicing and in the field. Sadly since his exit, our fielding has gone to the dogs.

A team led by a legendary captain who knew how to strategize and lead his team.

Now, a team lead by a person who knows what to do, still doesnt understand shadab cant spin

everyone in the current team is bearded apart from Wasim. Not a single beard in the picture above

Imran Farhat
Umar Akmal
Kamran Akmal
Nasir Jamshed
Azhar Ali

This is when Lahore mafia held full sway over the cricket team

Barring Imran Farhat they were decent performers at the time

Some very good white ball cricketers in this picture

Sadly, the current group are not in ‘teen’ or ‘tera’ (3 or 13) when it comes to white ball cricket breed

I remember watching this series and thinking Jamshed was destined for greatness, how wrong I was...

Too bad he decided to indulge in bookies. The team management went out on a limp to back him in the 2015 ODI WC and he let them down badly.

Baigel: "everyone in the current team is bearded apart from Wasim. Not a single beard in the picture above"

Yes, this was my first impression also.

2012-2013 team was less timid. There were guys like Shoaib Malik, Shahid Afridi, Hafeez, Ahmed Shehzad, Nasir Jamshed etc. All had warrior vibes.

Current team is a bit on the timid side.

I don't think this team is better than previous team.

That team had likes of Shoaib Malik, Hafeez, Wahab, Shahid Afridi, Ajmal etc.
Yeah Ajmal without chucking was no better than Suresh Raina with the ball

Of the rest , Hafeez was probably the most consistent in terms of churning out runs at a decent strike at least against minnows and weaker teams.

That series was won on the back of Junaid and Irfan . Once they declined and enforcement of chucking rules became stringent , that side looked horrible.

Babar is more skilled than Hafeez in the top order
Babar is more technically skilled than Inzimam and Anwar. He still isn’t a better ‘modern’ white ball batsman than them for his era like they were in theirs. Hafeez was one of Pakistan’s best modern batsman from 2010 til his retirement. He has brilliant innings at the latter part of his career in ODI and T20

On top of that

Babar isn’t more ‘skilled’ against spin than Shoaib Malik…ever

Shoaib Malik was best against spinners because he always used his feet against them but from current lot i have never seen any player who play spin with that much confidence.

This is false . I don't agree with this at all. Inzamam was never a top ODI batter. Neither was he consistent enough not impactful enough for any length of time

Anwar, yes.

Bobby is a very consistent #3. Problem is people are expecting him to be like Kohli , winning matches on his own a few times .

I don't think he's capable of that . He's not kill off matches on his own.

Answer: The 2012-2013 team had almost no facial hair. The current team has plenty of it (more than any other team). Clearly the current beard strategy is not working to help the team to win. Do you think it is due to fashion or due to '_ _ _ _' (hint: 4 letter word starting with 'I').

As usual, overseas people not knowing the trend in Pakistan. Thus, trying to judge and bash them

After 2014, everyone in Pakistan starting have facial hair, its a trend in the subcontinent now. People without facial hair are very less.

Its a trend worldwide lol dunno where these dudes have been living. Almost all British Pakistanis have a beard.

Like legit they think Kohli is the first dude to grow a beard. Even funnier the biggest cheerleaders of Kohlis who do bhangra over him in Pak Cricket are Imad and Amir....who these guys want in the side.

its the usual suspects that want to find a way to bash Pakistan while kissing up to India

Posts like these invite over the top criticism and hatred. If you are fan of Misbah then please stop putting him in positions where he will attract more hate than he should.

How can Misbah be a legendary captain when he took Pakistan to 8th ranking in ODIs, never made the semifinals of an ICC tournament, lost to India twice in ICC tournaments and led Pakistan to 4 down for 1 runs against WI in a World Cup game. In addition, he scored 0 hundreds in the format.

Misbah was a very ordinary ODI captain and an effective Test captain who knew how to use his spinners and extract results. I would happily have prime Misbah back in the Test team as captain and batsman but he would be the last person I would want to bat in my ODI team let alone lead it.

The trimmed beard culture in world cricket is thanks to Anishaka Sharma

Of course he won’t be consistent if you only follow his career on YouTube, or search for his good innings on YouTube

He was a legendary captain, couldn't achieve what he wanted due to a bad a team he had. Khair, this argument is useless anyways, as been discussed soo much time in the past and no one is going to change their opinion. But I will still call it where needed

Even with his legendary attitude, Pakistan ruined itself by not making Younis Khan the captain till his retirement. In my view, he’s only second to the great Imran Khan in terms of his strategic thinking, no nonsense attitude & integrity. He won Pakistan its only ICC WC after 1992.

The first criteria for captaincy is sanity. Younis was not a stable man

Well in the OP he's in the winners circle. You just hate him because he beat your favourite team in our last series

So when Pakistan won under Misbah it was due his genius leadership but when they lost, it was due to having a bad team. This is what cult-following and fan-boyism looks like.

Oh that is fine. Misbah is one of the very few Pakistani captains who have the distinction of getting owned by India twice in ICC tournaments.

Apart from Misbah, Wasim and Hafeez come to mind as two other Pakistani captains who lost to India twice in ICC tournaments. For most other captains, one dose of humiliation was enough and there was a change of guard before the next tournament.

Sarfraz and Babar also lost twice, but they have also beaten India. Misbah, Wasim and Hafeez are the only three captains in history who have been owned twice and never tasted success against India in tournaments.

Misbah fans should be proud to see him in a very exclusive club.

I'm amazed no one has pointed out the most obvious difference:

The Pakistan captain in 2012-13 ended his career with 0 ODI centuries in 149 innings.

The current Pakistan captain has 19 ODI centuries in 108 innings.

@Major

and yet the pic is of an infamous win against India for which you listed excuses of.

The last Pakistani captain to beat India in a bilateral series.

This is an extremely unfair assessment to go by since that was the last bilateral series to be played against India. If there is no comparison to be made with another series, then that argument holds no value

I believe their hero Kohli hadn’t grown one then.

Pathetic attitude - have your own individuality. If you want a daarhi, grow a proper one.
This is a pathetic comment. I'm holding on to some hope that you were being unserious even though you sounded serious. The fact that people agreed with you

Growing a beard out has become a commonality across the globe over the last decade. Every team's players have beards. Look at Williamson, Warner, Rohit, Butler, Bavuma, Woaked, Wood, etc etc the list goes on and on. Is Kohli the pioneer of growing a beard 💀

There was less dosti yari culture at that time and the team was playing purely on merit.

But nowadays team results are showing you the facts.

na bro, you would be surprised. This dosti yari is a thing that is made up by media and social media journalist,

Every captain has players that he likes and prefers, thing is, everyone has different eye for talent.

If you look at the picture in OP, the hand pick players of Misbah were Hafeez, Ajmal, Nasir Jamshed, Umar Gul, Umar Akmal, Shoaib Malik, Azhar Ali and Irfan

They were handpicked by him because he had an eye for talent and preferred these guys.

Babar preferred Shadab, Hassan, Shaheen and co. Its not dosti yari, its just that every captain has his own preference of players.

Why does that even matter.. we haven't played a bilateral series against India since, so this current crop never has had the opportunity.

The most notable point for me between 2013 team in that pictures and the 2023 team is that we are still just as bad at fielding, and our batting line-up today, despite being more talented and capable, still fails to perform in big games just like the 2013 team. So more similarities for me than differences to be honest :P
