Guess with Ramadan approaching fast, some of us will be thinking about this but am sure there are other who must have had to hold back on food/drink for other than religious reasons!?
 
I think the longest roza I have ever kept was around ~20 hours :)
 
12 hours for me. I used to do it every Thursday from 6 AM - 6 PM. Don't do it anymore.

Which was when I was 6 because I didn't want my parents to know since my dad wouldn't let me fast, so I skipped breakfast, and lunch and didn't have sehri because no one would wake me.

22 hours.

I think y'all didn't read the op, he specifies for other than religious reason how long have you gone without food or drink

No, but to be fair it was summer vacations, had I gone to school I don’t think I’d be able to hold it up.

I remember I broke it with a hulk themed green lollipop haha.

Religious reasons aside, why do people go hungry if they can afford food?
 
I used to be a real champ in my teens and would go without food and drink for 12+ hours in the sweltering heat of Karachi during Ramazan. Have turned into some snob auntieji now, can't even stand to be without water for more than a couple of hours and maybe 6 hours tops without food unless sleeping. Start getting headaches, being dizzy and of course very very hangry.

BTW, I slept for 16 hours straight one time, does that count ?

I don't remember exactly how long it was but once upon a time, I was going through issues and didn't eat for like 48 hours or so. It kinda became such an issue that after that I had troubles eating for at least a month or so. I'd not want to eat, and when I would, I'd feel nauseated. During that entire period, I'd starve myself for long hours and when I'd eat, it'd be something really small. Anti-inzamam (sarfaraz if we are going by the current team) effect.

I’ve done a week-long water fast. It’s exactly what it sounds like: only non-caloric beverages for a week, in my case water and unsweetened green tea.

It’s very useful for resetting your relationship to food. If you’re stuck in a rut unable to give up unhealthy food, simple carbs in particular, a water fast really helps. Obviously it isn’t something one should do regularly.

The first day or so is difficult, but soon you achieve this lucid serenity and focus. I found that after a day or so, I wasn’t thinking of food. The cravings were gone too, and at the end of the week, it is easy to move to a healthy diet.

If you’re thinking of keto, it’s a good way to quickly achieve ketosis.

I've been hearing about this keto thing a lot nowadays. Does it really work? I guess lot of fat and protein and minimum carbs, right?
 
20 hrs is so easy (without sehri - although not wise to do)

While growing up in Karachi, we used to play cricket after sehri (meal before dawn) and Fajr prayer for atleast an hr if not more and then couple of hrs prior to fasting while sun beating down on us in summer. While living in the west and doing it became walk in the Park.

Correct, although there’s a great deal of debate on just how many grams of carbs qualify as low-carb. There’s Atkins, which starts off with only twenty grams before increasing the grams gradually, and also specifies which carbs to eat in what phase, but there are other plans which simply specify the maximum grams.

I find 100 grams to be optimal: it leaves room for eating carbs before strenuous exercise as long as I stay under the maximum limit for the day.

Also played basketball (2 hours) with a moderate intensity.

I really felt thirsty.
