I don't know how many of you Indian posters know of the Marwari community and their devotion to whom they refer to as their Gurujis?

For those that don't know about it, let me put it into plain words. Marwari people consider their Gurujis their God. Not God reincarnated, but God in flesh and blood.

They'd do anything and everything their Guruji tells them to. Guys, trust me, you have no idea. If they Guruji tells them to fast for 60 days for no reason, they'd do it without questioning. If their Gurujis tells them to stop their booming business, and start another business in some other commodity, they'd do it. If their Gurujis asks them to stop ever seeing their grandchild, they'd do it. For those that may think I'm making thinking things up, you have no idea till what length they can do for the sake of their Gurujis.

This is where it gets interesting. A Marwari person, who has been a family friend of ours since 45 odd years, who keeps visiting us every now and then, came to our place around a year ago with his wife. It was just a family visit as always. It was after my father's demise in November, 2021.

It's was then where he revealed that he was having issues with his cardiac health. He went through the tests and it was revealed to him that he had 3 blockages in his arteries. He was recommended immediate Bypass surgery.

What exactly did he do? He went to his Guruji to consult with him. What exactly was he advice? He was advised to visit some Ayurvedic centre by his Guruji for treatment, and he was assured that it would get rid of all of his cardiac problems.

The biggest joke is he has 3 highly educated sons, with the eldest being more than 50. All of them agreed with what their Guruji suggested. One is a doctor (can you believe it?), the other is a B.Tech, the other is involved in family business.

I'm not a genius, but it doesn't take a genius to know what the outcome would be when that family made the decision.

The person suffered a massive heart attack in his bathroom few hours ago, and passed away.

The person was a multi millionaire, so his family doesn't have to ever think of money. But a person's life irrespective of his riches can never be compared with money.

When faith overtakes evidence and commonsense, it becomes disaster.

There are definite benefits for Ayurvedic herbs and their medicinal properties. But the claims made by these God men and the traditional medicine doctors are ridiculous. They claim that it even cures deadly diseases like Cancer, HIV and several other incurable diseases. You see these people in every street.

You can use these Ayurvedic medicine or for that matter many traditional medicines for smaller ailments like general cough, cold, fever etc. That is where its utility ends.

I told my mother first hand what was next when they came over to our place and told us everything. But then again, it's doesn't take a genius to figure that out.

Can you imagine a highly educated man not opting for surgery, but instead opting for some Ayurvedic treatment when he was revealed that he had 3 blockages in his heart?

I think that like everything else in life, it is important to know where to draw the line.
I may be the follower of a guruji and give him/her all the respect in the world, but I certainly won't go to him/her for medical advice or for tips on how to run my business.

Marwaris are among the richest and most successful communities in India, maybe even the world. Most Marwaris I know are US Dollar millionaires. So if their gurujis are advising them on how to run a business, they must be doing a pretty good job. But I still wouldn't go to them for any medical advice.

The most ridiculous thing is his wife and children are waiting for their Guruji to arrive from somewhere here and bless their father before his cremation.
