You should realize the difference between b and B in your connection speeds.
b = bit
B = Bytes = 8 bits

So when you see a lower download/upload sppeds in terms of MB/s you shouldn't feel cheated.

As for my connection, I have a 100Mbps connection, for downloads I get a good 10MBps and same for the uploads.

Your speeds are very apt for 1Mbps, assuming the download and uplaod u mentioned was a capital B not small b.

Still stuck with 512kbps upload/download on most part. That is just good enough to watch youtube smoothly at 240p. Though i get 2mbps for first 8gb. After that speed reverts to 512kbps.

Are you using BSNL bhai jaan :P

that sounds like the BSNL plan my parents have to tolerate!

Yep , Stuck with Airtel and MTNL. MTNL is BSNL for Delhi and Mumbai.

you should check out Youbroadband etc, I bet even Reliance and Docomo can provide faster and more data.
being in a Metro why getting stuck with MTNL, you should have way better options.

Most of these plans only provide good speed for few GB after that they charge heavily for extra use.
For a guy that dowload a lot (torrents mostly) , they become pointless to me.

I got 100 Mbps for 250 GBs .. :D

:O..
Trust me 100 MBPs doesnt really exist... as far as i know
I have fiber optic in my building. Both, upload and download speeds are a 100 MBPS.

it still is small b my friend not capital B...
bits and Bytes .. 8 times is the difference ...

I doubt you can download at 100 MB/s.. your downloads if you tried would top out at 12 or 13 MB/s or (100 Mbps)

Airtel provides 80 GB for Rs. 1500 for Delhi/NCR.

My upload speed saddens me. I have 5 TB of archived data for my future self, and I am afraid that if I don't upload it somewhere safe, it will all get destroyed in an earthquake eventually.

Are you sure ? Last i check - Airtel plan for Rs 1600, They were giving Upto 16 Mbps till 40 GB thereafter 512 Kbps.
1600 rs would probably have around 150 Rs extra Vat tax.

Just checked, looks like they have increased the tariff rate. Its now 80GB for 2099 for 4Mbps and after 80GB its 512Kbps(Turbo Plus 80GB).

200 MB p/s. Though it doesn't come that fast :danish Mostly hovers around 79-85.

My upload speed is 10 mbps which means I usually have around 1 mo/s. However, I recently uploaded all my files on One Drive (around 100 GBs) and it took a week. Definitely would prefer more.

Fiber optics?

Most people who say they have fiber at those speeds actually have cable with fttc which reaches speeds around 200 mbps. I have copper (phone line) which reaches speeds of 100 mbps (90 at my home) and these speeds are consistent through the day as opposed to cable.

It is a marketing gimmick by cable companies to sell fttp as ftth (which reaches speeds of 1 Gbps). Copper companies don't do that even though they have the exact same amount of fiber or even more (for example BT in the UK is starting to offer FTTB with g.fast).

I see.

I have fiber optics too with speed of 60 MBPS but I guess its Fiber to the Cabinet (fttc) and not fiber to the home.

Yes, same here. To be honest, 60 mbps is more than enough as long as it is consistent and doesn't drop. I have a similar speed and never felt the need for more. Only for higher upload speeds.

The thing is that it costs a lot more to install fiber at people's homes rather than just to the cabinet. I think 3000$/person iirc for underground (with the electric lines).

Nice details .. didn't know the nitty gritty involved ...
I guess mine is Fibre to the cabinet one...

I was in Tokyo in 2008/09 and back then, the speed was 110 Mbps on speedtest.net. was a shock to me.

Supposed to be 125 Mbps, wifi reduces it to 75, cause my modem is in the living room.

I am a regular seeder.

In the last month alone I have seeded at least 900 gb of torrents.

If anyone ever needs a seed to some torrent, let me know.

I have fiber and literally do nothing except watching cat videos, cricket videos and pakpassion . Sometimes I just download movies and stuff to seed them - don't even see them.

... :o

Recently downgraded from 50Mbps to 25Mbps as I rarely see download speed going over 10Mbps:

NetSpeed.JPG

My VPN effectively cuts my raw speed down by a third, but I rarely need 120 Mbps down anyways. The bottleneck for internet uploads/download is hardly ever your own high-speed connection.

If I'm using Wi-Fi my upload speed is about 12mbps but wired it's around 27mbps

That tarrif is ridiculous. Here, PTCL provides unlimited 8Mbps for 3 grands a month(INR 1950), 300GB @ 4 Mbps for 1750 (INR 1135). Only downside is PTCL has really bad pings on Indian servers in Dota 2(better than SEA and EU west servers for pubstomping since they speak the same language and skill level difference is comparable to the cricket teams in the 90s) because of crappy routing.

Heheh 1mbps internet, so don't ask about upload speed :( You guys are lucky yaar, if some body gives me even 8mbps net, damn i will create havoc :))

I get around 20mbps download, 20mbps upload. Download sometimes goes to 24mbps.

I have 1gbps in Singapore but currently at parents in Karachi 4mbps worldcall. Can't stand it am using lte 4g moslty even at home as thats faster than the cable internet. But even that compared to what I get in Singapore 4g is slow.

wow 900 Gb of seeding.
what benefits do you get by seeding?

i just need at least 500kb upload speed. which connection will give this speed?

ADSL here doesn't give more than 1 mbps upload. :(

Hearing good things about StormFiber in Pakistan though, does anyone have it?

ADSL in Australia is poor as well. We are waiting for the NBN (National Broadband Network) to be implemented but it will take few years for all places to have it. The speeds are horrendous. After being in the US where I was getting very high speeds, this was a shocker.

In Delhi finally most people are finally getting affordable internet at decent speed.
Beginning of this year i was stuck with 512 kbps DL/ 256 kbps UL plan (2mbps DL speed was only available till 8GB use) .

Now at same price now i have 1 Mbps DL/ 1 Mbps UL plan (24 mbps DL / 8mbps UL plan till 150 GB) from the same company.

I am expecting similar jump by mid of 2018.

I read on the internet somewhere that Netflix came out with their own speed test website called Fast.com, but you may ask why does Netflix need a speed test website when there are plenty of those out there and Speedtest.com (.org?) is considered pretty much the standard in internet speed testing.

The reason is internet service providers are renowned for throttling performance and not providing customers the speed they paid for, but to avoid legal ramifications these ISPs have an agreement with Speedtest to prioritize connection to it and the customer thinks they are getting what they paid. However these ISPs do not have the same agreement with Netflix/Fast and if the ISPs prioritize Fast they have to do the same for Netflix.

Try it... Check your speed on both websites.

Has anyone of you in Pakistan tried using fairly new services like Transworld, Stormfiber, Optix, Brain-net or Fiberlink?

Mine is a Hathway brand optic fibre (I think) connection in bangalore - Download - 50Mbps, Upload 2 Mbps . Dunno why there is such a disparity.

But I get 350 GB per month for 1200 rupees, so not complaining at all. :D

I've increased my speed, with a reduced price per month - I'm now getting 100mb download, 7 upload.

With wired I am getting 110mb download. Paying £32/33 per month for broadband only

I was looking at gigabyte connection. Looks great however too pricey here in the UK.

Hate UK for the upload speeds are rubbish - my mobile data one 4g will get me 15-20mb upload.

I was looking at the overall best countries with Internet speed - UK is behind countries like Lithuania and Bulgaria
