For me, i absolutely love aloo ka parantha with achaar, chole bhature. Plus the dosas and idlis from South india. :yk2

Bread-pakoda. The pakoda business is expected to grow exponentially under the current regime, which makes me happy.

Absolutely love Bombay Style Biryani (Not a big fan of Hyderabadi or Pakistani style biryani)

Also love Authentic Butter chicken (not some rubbish that have been served at desi restaurants in Toronto)

And love Seekh kebabs with mint chatni.....

My dad was making Biryanis in GTA till last week, I can sadly never taste his biryani coz it's chicken or beef, but I think it's a Pakistani Hyderabadi recepie that he uses, and it looks great but nothing like the one I'm used to which is made in Chennai and is called Thalapakatti Biryani, which in your opinion would be like Pulav.

The best thing about Biryani is whole of South Asia have their favs.

I had south Indian biryani from a restaurant in Scarborough called Anjaneepar Chettinand, and I absolute love their biryanis. Yes, you’re right in saying south Indian version of biryani is more like Pulav with meat but for some reason i just love it, specially with raita and soft boiled egg.

Is your father still in GTA? Please do tell me his restaurant, i may go and give a try :)
Also, curious to know if you live in GTA or gonna visit GTA anytime soon, we can someday meet up

Biryani is the best food period.

I often struggle between nihari and biryani as to which takes #1.

Nihari is definitely more of a specialist dish cuz very few places in Karachi get it right let alone world over where it is not as well known or appreciated. On the other hand you can find a good biryani (whatever type) place in any major city in the world

Naw my parents used to be there, they moved back to India last week, my wife is still Toronto might visit in a year.

Yea thats the one near Walmart on Eglinton ave, pretty close to my current residence. I really love their food, they also have best chicken lollipops in town.

Samosa, Pakora, Donner kebab, Seekh kebab, Biryani, Plough rice/chicken and Mince Paratha. You've got me hungry now, gotta have a search through my freezer:junaid

All of it. It's not like I'm a food snob, I do like European food a lot, but there's a reason why Nando's is such a successful franchise.

Wikipedia:

According to the latest figures published by the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis, there were an estimated 104,000 Pakistanis living in France as of the year 2017.

There is a population of Pakistanis in France, primarily of Punjabi origin from Punjab and Azad Kashmir. Large-scale Pakistani migration to France began in the 1970s; they clustered around the Rue du Faubourg-Saint-Denis in the 10th arrondissement of Paris, where many set up grocery stores and restaurants.

Here is one such "Indian & Pakistani" restaurant. :batman:

If this is the one in Paris then I've been to it. And they proudly called themselves Pakistanis to every Parisian who came at lunch and dinner. I don't remember if they had Indian written on their title or not as this was a lot of years ago.

Am I missing something? It says Pakistan and Indian in pretty much the same manner and size. Why are you trying to imply they were hiding the Pakistan part?

Because like in many instances, its Pakistani origin owners advertise their cuisine as 'Indian'.

It’s say both India and Pakistan , doesn’t it? That’s pretty accurate because a lot of Pakistani and Indian food is similar. What’s the issue?

There are plenty of Indian owned grocery stores and restaurants in Toronto, that advertise as both Pakistan/India. It’s a pretty normal thing.

That's inaccurate because Pakistan's food is similar to only north india. South india and rest have very different style. People oppose because it is a misleading advert.

Is 'Panjab' a Pakistani version of the spelling?. Generally Indians call it Panjab and Pakistanis Punjab ?

Why it's misleading ? Both India and Pakistan have different cuisines. In this case Punjabi's on both side share the cuisine. I as an Indian Punjabi have more in common with 60% of Pakistan populace's cuisine, culture and language. In western countries they relate to each other much better compared to Indian Punjabi and a South Indian. I cannot pronounce south Indian names, don't understand their language, have no similarity whatsoever. At my workplace Karachiwalas and Delhiites are indistinguishable.

Anyways in western countries all they know about Indian food is 90% Punjabi/Mughlai cuisine. Which Pakistani's share and have heritage claim as well.

Most Separatist Sikhs call it Panjab esp the ones from England and Brampton - the wannabe English kind.

There have been many pro-Khalistan rallies in India as well in recent years, specially since BJP came to power.

Pakistan is half punjab, but India has very little of punjab. The cuisine on both sides of the border is not same. indian punjabis restrict themselves to chicken and paneer dish. Pakistanis consume red meat.

If you are unaware of South Indian foods, culture, then it's your lack of knowledge. That doesn't make ads authentic.

Technically it was split into 2 halves, later on Indian Punjab further got split into 3. Indian Punjabi's abroad have zero dietary restriction, we all consume beef as we are not Hindu's.

So tell me what is Indian cuisine? Because in India language dialect changes every 100 miles, each state has it's own cuisine.

You are mistaking indian punjabis with sikhs. Sikhs are a subgroup of punjabis.

The same way you are mistaking indian food with punjabi food.

Panjab is the correct spelling and pronunciation.

Punjab is what the British changed it too and it stuck.

Abit like Bombay and Calcutta.

Not a fan of south indian food. It doesnt hold a candle to the North Indian stuff.

You clearly did not try authentic South Indian food.

It seems quite foreign to me and also doesnt have the same kick as the northern stuff.

Yeah probably different to authentic stuff you will get in India but ive tried it in a few UK resteraunts that appear to be the next best thing

Isn’t North India part of India? Maybe writing North India would make it more accurate but I don’t understand how it is misleading.

I'd say any UK restaurant doesn't hold a candle to authentic South Indian food.

If it's at all possible, you should come over and explore the diversity - from TN to Andhra to the Mangalorean (if you're into seafood) - they're not as greasy as Mughlai cuisine but healthy and filling.

Yea I figured that out when my parents used to call it land of five rivers, I assumed it should had been called Panj than Punj but name changing of Kolkata,Mumbai or Chennai made any difference if anything the British gave much more of a system to these cities that they destroyed.

Agreed if similar to Pakistani stuff. Punjabi food is the tastiest bar none.
Lmaoooo Punjabi food seems like boiled healthy vegan stuff infront of the taste you get in Karachi food.

Lahori sell pulao and call it Biryani.

Also Punjabi food has alot of emphasis on just butter in every salan. Punjabi food isn't even the second best cuisine in Pakistan. Easily dwarfed by Karachi and KPK who are fighting for the top spot.

You can fight for number three position. Heck even Baluchi cuisine will give you a tough time granted it is not as vast but there is no comparison to Sajji.

I would vote best cuisine in Pakistan is punjab. Karachi is very good also. Nwfp is good but very limited variety. Too spicy in Karachi for no reason

Then indians should start with it themselves l. Atleast in the US, 99% of the time when the restaurant says Indian food (when owned by Indians) it is North Indian/mughlai cuisine. For South Indian food that specify. In most of the west it’s understood that Indian is north India and South Indian is separate and needs to be pointed.

Lol even Punjabi’s who’ve lived in Karachi day Karachi food better.

Nihari is unmatched come on now

I know Pakistanis are really good with chicken and beef but I wonder if fish saalan exists. I bet Bangladeshis make it.

Lol even Punjabi’s who’ve lived in Karachi day Karachi food better.

only because of diverse food choices but most people from Lahore who go to Karachi come back with ulcers (cause of the food) and than avoid the food

way too spicy to actually enjoy the taste of the food for but diverse choices make up for the spicy part imo

KPK food is not only better but also healthier then Punjabi food. I would take Kabuli pilao and chaapli kebab over biryani all day and any day.

you're serious or you're being sarcastic?

KP food is as healthy as McDonalds big mac...

Pakistani cuisine doesn’t have a proper identity in the west.

Westerners who like desi food refer to it as Indian food altogether, and cannot distinguish between Indian and Pakistani dishes.

Culturally, Pakistan has not been able to step out of India’s shadow in the west. It is not surprising because India is far bigger, more influential and enjoys a much better reputation.

So it is not surprising if Pakistani restaurants in the west also pretend to be Indian.

Can’t speak from personal experience because we (me and family) do not like going out for desi cuisine be it in Pakistan or anywhere else.
