What is your favorite shot from a particular batsman?

For me

Rickey Ponting (Hook/Pull Shot) Probably the greatest player at the hook shot imo. He was amazing at that shot and played it beautifully.

Ab De Villiers (Scoop shot anywhere on the back half of the field)
Love watching this guy play shots, my favorite one is that scoop that he can play anywhere on the back half of the ground a sight to behold.

This video has some of the scoops in the first bit also the last 3 shots he played are also amazing especially the last 2 those are just unbelievable. The one he hit against Wahab at 2:05 (3rd last) was also exceptional.

Personally just playing cricket I love playing the Cover drive.

What are your favorite shots from a batsman and which shots do you like to play yourself?

Any shot played by Jayawardene
Any shot played by Damien Martyn
Jayasuriya square cut
Dilshan dilscoop
Ponting hook/pull
Hayden front foot pull
Kohli off drive
Steve Smith wristy on drive
Sangakkara cover drive

Ross Taylors Late cut - Also Virat's drive/block to third man.. rotates the strike and keeps the runs going.

My favourite tendulkar shot ! I don't see many of the other modern players play this one ... I guess it was pretty difficult to execute..:srt And he always hit it in the gap between fielders.. Was so great to watch the 1st 10 overs of ODI's back then ... :97:

Forgot to mention Virat Kohli's Cover Drive is also pure class

Personal opinion: I dont think :kohli owns the cover drive, like the way :srt did the Back foot Punch & Standing straight drive (no follow through) , or Ponting with the Pull shot .. Thats one charachteristic ATG trait he doesn't seem to have. A shot he can truly claim as his own ..

Nothing beats yousaf's cover drive or saeed anwar's wristy flick, all class and timing, with bat and body in full synchronization.

Afridi's top edged slog that gets caught in the circle. Misbah's straight hits for six to pacers.

Tendulkar hooking Shoaib Akhtar for a six over the keepers head in the beta beta hota hai aur baap baap hota hai incident .

I can never forget that shot, and neither it seems, can Shoaib :)

It's one of the more difficult shots to execute. You need to have good balance and transfer of weight to your backfoot coupled with perfect timing. It is a risky shot in the sense that you're playing a shot off a ball pitched in the good length and slightly shorter length. And not many asian players play it, non asian players play it more due to the better bounce there. Root plays it well generally.

Lara's square drive

Tendulkar's straight drive

Saeed Anwar's aerial flick

Ponting's pull shot

Hayden's six over long off

Viv's sixes straight down the ground

Kohli's on drive

Jayasurias cut

Damien Martin/Misbah's reverse sweep :misbah

Pointings pull
Sanga cover drive
Williamson shot down to 3rd man
Moyo cover drive
Kohli playing through extra cover/mid off
Steve Smith hitting through midwicket
Sachins drive

I forgot to add, Misbah's surprise six against spinners, especially in test cricket, is awesome. Blocks so many balls against the spin, then out of nowhere loads up a huge hit over long on or mid-wicket.

Didn't know root played it . Maybe it's due to Sachin's short stature and overall compactness of his strokeplay, but when he plays the Back-foot Punch & Straight drive , they kind of look different from the conventional way of playing those shots ..

My favourite shot is when a clueless and overhyped Indian fails to judge the seam of an Asif delivery and has his middle stump sent cart wheeling.

Also add Kohli's wristy flick to onside for :six .
Ganguly jumping out of the crease to loft a Huge :six against spinner.. The moment he left the crease you knew, that was gonna fly !

Root and AB play it well..

It probably appears different because Sachin used to play his shots on the up presenting the full face of the bat.

Root plays that very well. Stands back tall on his toes and punches the ball through covers. Reminds me of Tendulkar.

Great thread!

Mohammad Yousuf playing the ball late behind square, brilliant at opening the face.

Trescothick's cover drive against opening pacers, would always it take it to them like Sanath and Anwar...

Also Sharjeel's flicks off his hips...

Muhammad Yusuf's late cut was a work of art.

He would keep holding the pose after the shot for a few secs. That made it look so effortless, as if the power came out of nowhere.. Really missing the man ! :sadbye

I do think Yousuf underacheived as a ODI player. He had a lot of strokes and good timing . Maybe his fitness and overall laziness let him down .
I remember an old match of his Vs IND. He was in the late 90's and we were in the last 5-6 overs. Suddenly MoYo was scampering for singles with the tailenders. Ramiz/Sunny (not sure) were taken aback. They were like " Oh, So he can run when he wants to , doesn't he ! ":moyo

:akhtar :asif :wahab :junaid :bhatti :amir2
They seem to struggle defending the fuller deliveries.

I remember that match! Moyo was the 1st Misbah. Tuk, tuk, tuk and then... slog sweep for 6!

Sharjeel short arm jab.

Saeed Anwar's flicks

Sangakkara's Cover Drive

Misbah's Six down on one knee

Every shot off Virat Kohli's bat.

Steve Smith overhead slog. :))

Personally I like to play all of the sweeps. :sahmed :jm :misbah

BTW did anyone see Harris Sohail's cover drives against India in WorldCup 2015? Wow.

How about Yuvraj's stand and deliver Golf Swing SIXes .. !

SRT- leg glance

Lara - Cover drive/ cut

Appreciate quality pull-hook shot from any batsman

Saeed Anwer 2003 WC group match
Late cut for FOUR to ashish nehra
Front foot hook for FOUR zaheer khan
Those 2 shot got stuck in my mind really enjoyed watching live

I would totally agree should have averaged close to 50 with a couple more hundreds.

True, but every shot he plays is just class and amazing to watch and I especially love those cover drives he plays.

Not bad. :mv

Ponting's pull
Jayasuriya's square cut
Tendulkar's straight drive
Yousuf's cover drive
Anwar's leg side flick

My favorite shot is probably the six that Tendulkar hit Caddick.

Jos buttler's hockey slice.the way he hits almost yorker length balls between mid off to long off region with power is amazing skill. I don't think anybody else plays this shot either.

Vaughan's cover drive, Stewart's swivel pull off the hips on one leg, Mark Waugh's casual flick off the pads through midwicket, Robin Smith's ferocious cut shot.

Too many to remember in theory, but at the same time one only needs to close one's eyes and it instantly plays out in the mind as if not a moment has passed.

Sehwag's cuts are awesome to watch. Yuvraj singh's pick up shot on the on side, Dravid's on drive is one of the most beautiful to watch. On drives is one of the most difficult shot to execute.

That shot from Kohli when Tymal Mills was bowling in T20 series against India last year

Not any specific batsman but I love a perfectly executed cover drive. So majestic. Especially if you hold the pose after finally getting one to pierce the field after 15 tries like Shezzie.

Shots that I am emotionally invested in? All of Sachin's drives in the arc starting from cover region and ending at wide long on. Sehwag's throw-the-kitchen-sink cuts and drives. Yuvraj and *****'s monster hits down the ground. Laxman stepping out to carve spinners in general and Shane Warne in particular inside out through the covers is something I savored way too much.

Sanga's and Raina's cover drives
Sehwag's upper cut
Dhoni's helicopter
Kohli's lofted shots

Sachin Tendulkar's straight drive
Ricky Pontings pull
Brian Lara's one legged pull shot
Virat Kohli's cover drive
VVS Laxman's wristy flick through mid wicket of the spinners

Joe root's backfoot punch

Stokes's hook & pull

Jonny bairstow's short arm jab

Jos Butter's hockey style drag flicks through mid off to extracover region.

Steve Smith's leg side flicks

Kohli's cover drive

I would have to add Younis Khan's and Misbah's sweep shot especially Younis loved his sweep shot, even Ab learned how to sweep from Younis!

YK.jpg

The Viv-Richards SIX!

The cricketing version of a Frazier left hook. :viv

Currently, Jos Buttler's midwicket pick up shot.

Or Quinton de Kock's legslide flick, so effortless, but always goes for six. Timing.
