2 needed for a Super Over.

3 needed for a win.

The ball goes to the boundary, the fielder drops it, throws back the ball without being balanced, and they were only able to complete 1 run?

Sarfaraz post-game to Rameez Raza: We would have had a Super Over if they used their brain on the last ball.

hamza was star struck... anu was in heavens of 6's... could already see sarfi giving him jolly hugs... until he realized...

Mir Hamza should have been gunning to run for 3/4/5 no matter how many were needed or where the ball went. Lazy, lethargic attitude and totally deserving of the hair dryer treatment from captain and coach.

Then again it is Sarfraz who picked Hamza (who has no business playing in PSL) in the team due to friendship. So it is his fault.

What a minute so Mir Hamza is friend now? I thought he was being kept out since he wasn't a friend.... so whoever plays for QG is a friend and whoever is on the bench isn't :))

Will wait for video confirmation on this.

I dont trust Anwar ali at all. I am 90% sure it was his fault. He must have been doing the natak of feeling disappointed before the catch was dropped and hence got late for the 2nd run.

I mean he is from and plays for Karachi. Along with most of the locals on QG.

By that logic Saud and Saad are also from Karachi but haven't been picked - they must be lesser friends then :))

You could argue that there are better T20 batsmen and bowlers in Pakistan. Only reason QG did not pick them is because they're not from Karachi.

I am still having trouble comprehending what difference this makes.

Before the first ball was bowled, Mir Hamza knew the following:

He needs to run 2 runs for the match to be tied.

He needs to run 3 runs for the match to be won.

Who cares what Anwar Ali is doing. You run as fast as you can and complete those two runs.

If Anwar Ali is run out at the other end, so be it, but it is his job to ensure that a run out is not completed on his end.

Mir Hamza's running... What a farce, he should have bolted the moment the ball left the hand... What a numpty!

When he would have seen anwar disinterested in running and acting disappointed, obviously he wouldnt have run thinking all is over already. Things happen quickly on the field. We have a luxury of analyzing things in slow mo, players dont.

Lets first watch the video again. That will give us an idea.

If I'm the non-striker at that situation, I'm not even looking at the striker. You run straight and back.

Not my problem and it doesn't matter what the striker is or isn't interested in.

People are lashing at Sarfi for scolding Mir Hamza. Its basic game awareness which he should have known. Rightly so he gets yelled at because of 1 second delay he couldn't reach and wasted Anwar's efforts.
So another point I see that every time a player don't perform he becomes Sarfi's friend, nice logic.

Without a doubt Sarfi needs to control his emotions and he goes overboard sometimes. But this is an eliminator and QG did very well to restrict PZ and were on song to chase the total. Silly mistakes caused them the game and previous mistakes caused them the cup in previous PSL playoffs.

People need to take it easy on criticizing Sarfi. He is the one who took them this far and managed different sets of players brilliantly. Ask Viv About Sarfi and then:shhh:shhh:shhh:shhh

Sadly, not the only Pakistani player to have such a brain fade.

The guy wins games and makes an average Quetta outfit into a great one, because he demands wins. And players from Karachi Kings can't win a game to save their lives and are still doing worse off than the squad power they have.

Sarf is a winner. People don't like it but his team has been over achieving in the PSL for quite a while now. And even in the last knockout they outthought the Zalmis in the knockout, and restricted them to 130 in the final.

Its a travesty their team is on the losing end but specficially for the last two seasons they have been struggling because of their foreign players not joining the team for the Pakistan leg of the tournament.

You are mentioning an ideal scenario. But you really dont know how you would react in a real situation when something happens so quickly. It is possible that you would see your partner acting like a drama queen on having given a catch to the long on fielder and you'd simply think its pointless to run when he isn't interested. Yes its not very intelligent i agree, but primary fault lies with Anwar if this was the scenario. We are talking about a real situation here where things happen quickly, not time to think, immense pressure, ball going straight into hands of fielder etc. It was chaotic.

That's the difference between us and a professional.

They choked. No ifs, ands, or buts about it.

No excuses.

Sarfaraz is a brilliant captain. Best in pakistan. Had they selected better local players, Quetta could have won initial 2 PSLs.

Anwar was the striker and yet the two batsmen were at a similar point in their runs. The non-striker should normally be ahead due to backing up. Plus, considering that a two would have tied the game, Mir Hamza should have been looking to start running the moment the ball left the bowler's hand, no ifs or buts. He was running to the danger end, he should have been running like a man possessed from the start. Lack of game awareness, I doubt they scolded him for nothing.

The video doesn't tell much because they don't actually show the running between the wickets fully. Just the end part.

Who's Sarfi?

Most of our players lack cricket intelligence. Stuff like this is hardly surprising for me anymore. Sarfraz has every right to be angry at Mir Hamza.

Lol Mir Hamza isn't their friend or anything. Not everyone in 20 million Karachi population is Sarfaraz's friend

Shafiq and Anwar are because they've been playing together since under 16 days

Great angle to see the ball watching/brain fade moment

They were both jogging. In a big moment like that where you need 3 to win you sprint regardless of whether you think it will be caught or not.

Terrible cricket by both batsmen.

Absolute lack of game sense - from Anwar as well. Communication should have been, whatever happens must complete the 2rd run, unless it's a boundary by then.

May be Hamza in his lifetime never experienced such intense game in domestic style, got overwhelmed with the occasion. Otherwise, even club games, players would have run for their life to complete the 2nd, here he was ball watching!!!!!!!!

I have been harsh on Sarfraz's behaviour but here he was justified and should have been more fierce

Mir Hamza should be ashamed of himself for his idiotic mistake

Bhai what do you expect from QEA products ?

Don't even worry about the boundary. That's what got them in trouble. They were ball watching. If you're the non-striker, you put your head down and you run straight and you run back.

Nothing else to think about. That's it.

No wonder even calm and cool Nadeem Omar was seen visibly upset at the end. Disastrous running. Heat of the moment. Well the match could have gone either way and then we would have been bashing Dawson. The clean run out was quite a feat to execute in such pressure. Good job by fielder and bowler eventually.

Yea I just assumed it. Considering most of the local players are from Karachi, there seems to be something wrong.

At least he didn't pick :fadi

The fielder deserves some credit for that fantastic blind throw after the heart break of dropping the catch just half a second ago.

Anwar was at more fault

how was Anwar at more fault ? he was running towards the bowler end and the catch was happening on that end and he even made it back to the keepers end when the catch was dropped

on the other hand, Mir Hamza was ball watching when he should have been running hard head down as he could, that's basic cricket. You don't have to be experienced in cricket to know that

Bhai it is not his fault.

A tailender does not know what to do in a pressure situation and should never have been in that situation in the first place. Just like Allan Donald in the 1999 WC SF.

Blame the rest of the Quetta batsman for putting their team in a situation where 25 runs were needed off the last over....

Well done.

This video clearly shows that both the players were not running seriously for the 2nd.

However more blame lies with international cricketer Anu pehalwan who should have guided his younger partner.

He probably felt given Anwar's exploits in that over that the last ball was going for 6 as well. Pretty poor ignorant stuff from him, had he run the first one hard he would comfortably arrived back for the second.

Actually if u see the whole last over, both batsmen weren't running when anwar was hitting the big sixes. And they did the same for the last ball too...The management should have been alert too and signaled the message to run very hard.

It's a moment of stupidity, it's like in football where you say play to the whistle and don't stop and complain to the ref in hopes that he'll blow the whistle, similarly you should be gusting a gut regardless of whether it seems it'll be a catch.

Does not however warrant the bench publicly lambasting Mir as though the rest of the dugout had all done their jobs and Mir was some solitary culprit.

Like I said, absolutely lay into him in the dressing room, in front of all the teammates if you want, but there is nothing to gain from doing it in the open.

I defend Sarfraz often because you need to iron out lapses in judgement during a game then and there and can't wait to go into the dugout to get the point across, but control yourself when the game is over.

Did Lance walk across to Donald and abuse him in 99? did the dugout welcome back Donald with verbal shrapnel?

Those who are mentioning Allan Donald incident and saying tailenders are not suppose to have this much knowledge have either been in coma since 1999 and suddenly woken up or have not watched much cricket at all. This is not 1999 these days every tailenders are required to be able to run as an absolute minimum. Absolutely pathetic running robbed Queta of a supper over and chance of victory.

They showed the footage again and both Anwar Ali and Mir Hamza were ball watching and then Anwar Ali slipped turning for the second. Either batsman could have been run out.

To be honest, even if they completed the 2nd run and the match was tied, Peshawar would have just beat them in the Super Over most likely.
