Below you are required to make greatest ODI XI of players who were unfortunate to be part of the World Cup winning team. What would be your greatest XI of such players?

My pick: -

Anwar
Ganguly(c)
Lara
Kallis
ABD
Klusenar
McCullum(wkt)
Pollock/Hadlee
Saqlain
Ambrose
Waqar/Donald

Discuss!

Hard to argue against that XI.

I'll make only 2 changes. KP in place of Kallis. And because I'm losing overs from Kallis, I'll replace Klusener with Freddie Flintoff to be my genuine 5th bowler.

And I would definitely pick Hadlee over Pollock.

So my XI will be:

Anwar
Ganguly (c)
Lara
KP
ABD
McCullum (w)
Flintoff
Hadlee
Saqlain
Ambrose
Waqar

Donald
Pollock
Steyn
Gibbs
Gooch
Gower
Botham
Flintoff
Rashid latif
Saqlain

Saeed Anwar
Saurav Ganguly (c)
Kumar Sangakarra (wk)
Brian Lara
ABDV
Kevin Pietersen
Richad Hadlee
Saqlain Mushtaq
Waqar Younis
Shoaib Akhtar
Allan Donald

What you are looking for is basically a best SA XI.

I agree. I would also like to make the above mentioned changes.

KP at 4 and Flintoff at 7.Also, Hadlee at 8 but it is close between him and Pollock and I will go with white lightning over Waqar. Donald has a better average of 21 to 23 and also a better economy rate of 4.15 compared to Waqar's 4.66.

Realistic strong contenders,

From SA - Klusener, Pollock, AB and Donald

From Pakistan - Anwar and Saqlain

From India - Ganguly

From WI - Lara, Ambrose & Gayle

From NZ - Crowe, Hadlee & Mac

From Eng - KP

From SL - Dilshan

I may be missing some names, but these players came in my mind.

Flintoff??

Brendon McCullum(c)
Rohit Sharma
Sangakkara (k)
Pietersen
Kallis
Shakib Al Hasan
Shaun Pollock
Richard Hadlee
Saqlain
Waqar
Shane Bond

If England fail to win next year, this team will get Gilly level keeper in Buttler added to it!

Flintoff??

And Kallis, Waqar as well.

I will go with Klusener as an all rounder to be honest. Kallis & Flintoff were below Klusener for me. Shakib may get in as an additional all rounder if team is for Asian conditions.

Waqar was far inferior bowler in ODI format. Pollock, Ambrose, Hadlee and Donald were far superior than Waqar in ODI format to not even have any debate. Waqar's rating trend in ODI format : normal range 600-650 rating points with peak of 750. He was extremely expensive in ODI format.

Glenn Turner
Saeed Anwar
Brian Lara
Kumar Sangakkara
Jacques Kallis
AB De Villiers
Lance Klusener
Shaun Pollock
Richard Hadlee
Shane Bond

Both Klusenar and Flintoff are at same level. Remember Flintoff averages 32 with the bat and 24 with the bowl.

This for me as well, with a couple more names I can't think of right now.

Flintoff was a damn good all-arounder. His peak wasn't long but in it he was perhaps as impactful as Botham was in his prime. His ODI numbers are excellent.

Yeah he was an amazing all-rounder could have achieved so much more had all the talent to do so, he was so much better than Ben Stokes.
