What would T20 scores be like in the 1970s?

This is more of a speculation & fun thread. LOI 60 overs cricket was introduced in the early 70s and very soon attracted the attention of the masses. A 200+ then was match winning in the era of no field restriction, poor bats/ protective gears, no restriction on bouncers etc. However in the same era the game had also seen some 300+ scores and some big 100s, case in point England's demolition of India in the 75 world cup opener. That era was also known for the best fast bowling era.

Now imagine that T20s were too introduced in the 1970s. What would be your pick for the following, assuming all the restrictions and limitations back then still applied -

1. Highest / average team score.
2. Most individual runs in innings.
3. Maximum sixes.
4. Best batsman & team
5. Most successful bowler and bowling unit.

Look forward to your posts.

I would think it would have been an even contest between bat and ball - making it an interesting viewing. A sharp contrast to the slog fest these days.

1) Average team score would probably be like 120. 160 would be amazing whereas nowadays 160 is probably below par.

2) Most individual runs in innings - probably 50 would be very impressive.

3) Maximum sixes - probably in an innings you wouldn't expect more than 4ish.

Boundary sizes and bat sizes made it difficult for batsmen of that era to hit sixes a lot of times batsmen would have tried to hit sixes but got out.. I think it’s safe to say 100-120 would have been par score at that time.. 140-150 would have been a massive score you would have seen once in every 20 odd matches..

Most individual runs probably around 60-70..

Most sixes 5-7.

West Indies as bowling unit as a bowler probably Joel garner.

Batsmen definitely viv and team as well WI..

Sad to see most of the posters having no clue about the batsmen of the past.

One just need to watch Lloyd's 100+ SR century in the first World Cup final or Viv's greatest ODI inning of all time or Pollock's murdering of fast bowlers.

In the 80s, there was a series played between India and Pakistan in which both teams consistently scored over 6 rpo in almost every inning. Zaheer and Miandad blasted quick centuries to take Pakistan past 250 in 35 overs.

I have zero doubt in my mind that they would have regularly posted on par T20 scores even then.

Interesting post. Was not aware about a 250+ score achieved in 35 overs in 1980s.

I knew Viv was an exception but not sure if others could well adapt to this format. Poor quality bats, unrestricted fast bowling, lack of protective gears would have made things difficult.
