What's the one thing about cricket you miss the most?

For me its got to be the excited of the pre-game time - what team will they play etc - always the most exciting part...

And if a Test match then the 2-3rd days of the game when the result starts to take shape.

This may sound funny, but it's actually the routine. The background noise of the commentary, the clipping sound of the ball hitting bat, vociferous appealing, the soft patter of the crowd clapping a boundary, DRS reviews, wicket celebrations et al.

Most of all, it's the fact it's not on in the background while I work at home on my laptop is the one that is disturbing me most acutely.

When I used to live in Karachi, the feeling before heading to NSK to watch Day 1 of a Pakistan vs India Test.... priceless!

Cricket lost its artistic side long ago. Now it's all about a ruthless pursuit of records and wins.

Modern day labour efficiency has taken over. No one plays for the crowd anymore.

In the 1990s and even in early 2000s, every top batsman would slog away post 100.

I remember how in Nairobi in 2000 during ICC knock out, Tendulkar made it a point to smash McGrath early on. He charged him for a six over his head, hooked him.for another six. Basically the same tactic he was trying to pull off in 2003 world cup final. It worked in 2000 and it didn't in 2003. I don't see a.modern batsman taking these risks now because a flashy 30-40 isn't good enough now.

So everything is bigger now. Better averages, better century rates, bigger centuries but where are the MOMENTS?
