"When I got to my 100 I thought they would ignore it but Kohli was clapping" : Fakhar Zaman

Speaking in Eid program:

"When we played against England, almost 80% of the fans were our supporters"

"Azhar Ali kept on telling me to play other shots but I kept on telling him that if I middle it will be a four on mid-wicket and a six if I top edge it"

"When I was batting well, Kohli and others were saying things to me so when I got to hundred I thought they would ignore it but when I looked at Kohli, I saw that he was looking down but graciously clapping for me"

"I was a little disappointed by MS Dhoni as he did not show much reaction after my hundred"

"In the England game, I was talking to the umpire in English but also knew that England players were trying to sledge me"

"At that time, Plunkett came by me and said something to me, I just shook my head and said 'no English' as in I cant understand it and he went away"

"After Plunkett had gone, the umpire smiled at me and shook my hand and said well done"

"I get asked about the no-ball so often that I recently told an interviewer, please ask anything except about that no-ball"

"The day before the India final - I felt very weak and did not practice much"

"The Physio gave me some supplements and medicine the night before and told me that in the morning at 7 am, you dont go to the Coach or Captain but come to me so we can see how you feel"

"Thankfully at 7 am on the day of the final, I messaged the physio that I was fit"

I cant even remember how many runs I scored in the CT and you are asking me about Amir's total ODI wickets?"

"My mother never sends me out for groceries as I tend to forget things a lot"

"If Rumman's heart had been broken a few years ago then he would have been playing for Pakistan earlier" (in reply to Rumman saying that his heart was broken but one month later he was playing for Pakistan so that compensated for it)

"When I saw our team being friendly with the Indian team in the 1st game, I remarked to Faheem Ashraf that if we play them next, we will play with more aggression and that is how we played the final"

"You saw how we celebrated when we took a wicket in the 1st game against India and contrast it with how we reacted to same situation in the final"

"All XI would celebrate the Indian wicket and also let them hear a few things as the batsmen left the field; used to see them home!"

"Before the final, no one was interested in the trophy but we were all talking about wishing to wear the white jackets"

Seems a very refreshing and down to earth character- quite open and no rehearsed lines!

I find the "odd couple" comments between him & Azhar quite funny- each shows their mindset but hopefully they respect how the other goes about their cricket differently, but both successfully.

Kohli will always acknowledge if someone plays well. No suprise at his reaction.

Pakistani players seem to hold Kohli in high esteem and rightly so. Also the post match Kohli interview was very good.

Kohli is most likable Indian Athlete ever, atleast from a Pakistani perspective. And I have been watching sports among these two neighbors for 30+ years...

Seems like a great interview!

What's this about Rumman's heartbreak. What's going on there?

Fakhar Zaman speaking on TV:

"I had never thought that I would be able to perform so well in my first overseas tour"

"I decided to celebrate my Eid with the coach who taught me cricket"

"When I was out for 50 in the CT, Shoaib Malik came to me and said dont be happy/satisfied with this score"

"Captain Sarfraz tells us off the most"

"After I was out for 57 vs England, Shoaib Malik told me that I will have to score 100 if I wish to become a big player"

"When I was walking back to the crease after being declared not-out in the final, I was thanking the Almighty for that second chance"

"I will work on improving my weaknesses which have been pointed out by my coaches and senior players like Mike Hussey"

"Hasan Ali is the life of this team; when he is in the ground with us, there is so much energy around him"

"

"Azhar Ali kept on telling me to play other shots but I kept on telling him that if I middle it will be a four on mid-wicket and a six if I top edge it"

)

Exactly why Azhar Ali is such a disease to our team. There's no doubt about the fact that he plays at the pace of a turtle but he's also trying to influence the ONLY person we have who can play modern day cricket in the team. The sad bit is, Azhar's opinion is also given a lot of respect by the team members for his accomplishments in Tests and they look up to him as a senior.

Unfortunately, he's booked himself a spot for another couple of series but he needs to be removed from the team ASAP. I don't care how good you think he is but he'll destroy the team.

I think, there isn't that much animosity amongst the players on either side .... it is the fans, on both sides, that get into hot and heavy while sitting on a Sofa !!!!

What a sook, whining about Dhoni not acknowledging his 100. Dhoni is a legend of the game and this guy is a newbie nobody. Gets one fluke hundred after being dismissed off a no ball and thinks he's arrived in the big league. May not get another one ...

Needs to stop looking for satisfaction of his performances from others. Seems insecure about himself and his abilities.

It's a TV program and the comment needs to be looked at in context.

They were asked about funny and/or memorable moments, so Fakhar said that when the opening partnership was blossoming, the Indians started getting chatty. He said that when he got to his hundred, he wasn't expecting them to appreciate his effort after that but then he saw Kohli quietly clapping. He was egged on to describe others' reactions so he said that he was expecting Dhoni to say 'well-played' or something along those lines but he just kept quiet.

Indian media has been having a field day with this comment and has been portraying it as something it isn't. It was just a very low-key comment in a long TV program where the players HAVE TO come up with things to talk about.

Yes and Dhoni won us all ICC tournaments and Kohli zero, looks to stay that way considering his captaincy skills.

Looks like Kohli gets on field to make Pakistani fans from cricketers to average fan.

What kind of logic is this? If he is good, how is he destroying the team? Did we watch different games or did Pak not put on two consecutive 100+ run opening partnerships in CT? Do you remember the last time that happened?

I've emphasised in the post why I think he should be out of the team.

Why is he even mentioning opposition players in his interviews? Just focus on yourself and what you have to do. Dhoni has no obligation to clap for you and rightly so. Don't know why he's disappointed.

Overall, seems like a focused guy. Just don't want him to get caught up in this hype.

Kohli only cares about his brand image and nothing more. Just does as directed by Bunty Sajdeh.

Does it matter? The whole world is applauding you so those who do not are only doing it out of hate.

As mentioned above, it's a lengthy TV program and the discussion was about funny/memorable moments in the match. Quite natural for such a discussion to involve opposition players.

Imad was the one who egged Fakhar on to talk about Dhoni, he said 'Dhoni broke his heart' so Fakhar just said he was expecting a well-played or something similar from Dhoni, but Dhoni kept quiet.

It's really not such a big deal when you consider how many interviews these guys have been giving and the amount of time they've spent on TV. There will be comments like this one but it's been blown way out of proportion by the Indian media.

Yeah this bit doesn't really fit in with the other quotes, an explanation would be nice. Good interview, seems like a humble and nice guy.

They were having a quick fire round of questions and the host told them if he ever had a heartbreak? He replied like yeah,It should've happened way too early and I would've played for Pakistan team much early than I did and all others jooned in.

I have to disagree.

I think it has to be MSD.The way he carries himself around and he is not that much animated on the field. So these qualities are admired by Pakistanis,as far as I have noticed so far.

But of late it has to be Virat Kohli,no doubt.

Oh okay that makes more sense.

MSD is awesome but Kohli for pakistani's I guess. He acts like a Pakistani . Boy got that aggression but also knows where to draw the line .

Goto the crease with the intention of preforming for your country staying at the crease for asking as you can and scoring 100 at every opertunity. You have a bright future grasp this chance to with both hands . Best of luck !!!

Dhoni wanted nothing to do with Pakistan in that final. Even when he got bounced out, he seemed more relieved that his day was over rather than disappointed that India were getting destroyed.

Kohli is quite likable off the field these days. If only he played for a different team.

Kohli is a good man. Can't understand all this hostility towards him. He plays hard on the field but is very sociable off it. Nothing wrong with that at all. He seems very pro-Pak if anything at all.
