What's new

"When things like this happen, you do start to think about [giving up captaincy]" : Sarfaraz Ahmed

There was a time when players like Wasim Akram were sacked as captain after leading Pakistan to 1999 WC final, and there is a time now when mediocre performances, defeats against arch rivals India, and even home defeats are considered acceptable to retain captains and players.

This itself shows how Pakistan have come to accept mediocrity and how the standards have fallen.

Different era with lots of captaincy options.

Nowadays say the word captaincy to most Pak players and they will pass out.

I was watching the 4th day of the third NZ test. NZ we 60/4 and still 14 in arrears. However, on each run and boundary, Sarfaraz would hide his face in gloves. He wore the look of the man who had already lost the match. This was while NZ was still to make us bat again. How can a team win when the leader acts like this?

I know for sure that Sarfaraz is a weak minded leader and cannot take the pressure of leading a team. Since we don't have enough time before world cup, he should continue as limited overs captain. However, he should never ever captain Pak in test matches again.

Do we have a suitable test captain to replace Sarfaraz?

Do we have a suitable test captain to replace Sarfaraz?

For how long will we tolerate mediocrity under the guise of lack of alternatives? Sarfaraz has now had almost 2 years and he has been captaining in domestic cricket for almost 10 years, it is clear he is not going to change or improve.

His own individual performance is non existent. Can't have a captain like this

So if someone isn't doing there job you keep them because no one is apparently better ?

In a cricket mad country if we can't replace Sarfraz we should just stop playing cricket.

Yeah but we really need to analyse what options we have. Sarfaraz does keep the team unite and his individual performances have been OK.

We are a number 6/7 team in world rankings. Our top domestic performers are Imran Farhat, Khurram Shahzad and Umar Akmal.

Asif Ali (with a shameful first class average in the 20s) is apparantely been claimed by some fans to be the next saviour of our fortunes. Do you really see where we stand?

Unfortunately the cracks are really starting to show for Sarfraz. He seems like an emotional guy, and that is evident by his behaviour on the field. He now needs to channel that emotion and passion appropriately and bounce back from a poor run of results - particularly in Test cricket.

He seems like someone who wants the best for Pakistani cricket and u do wish him all the very best and hope that he can turn it around inshallah.

I think the Champions Trophy win went to Sarfaraz's head a bit and he started to believe that he is a better captain than what he actually is.

Welcome back to earth Sarfaraz.

He would stop shouting if that were true

Do we have a suitable test captain to replace Sarfaraz?

Azhar Ali. Yes, he was a useless captain in LOIs but Pakistan have hit rock bottom in tests and there is no harm giving him a go. Sarfaraz is a certified TTF.

Pretty shameful, our opening pair of batsmen were just as bad.
