Have they hit this mediocrity level that they have failed to find a single quality opening partner for Alastair Cook since Strauss retirement six years ago?

And this is after their very own Alastair Cook being nothing great in these years.

I understand English conditions are tough but they have produced many high quality openers in past, namely Stewart, Tescrothik, Strauss and Cook.

Even SA conditions are tough but they have recovered from Smith retirement and have Elgar and Markram as their new opening partners. Australia had Warner and Rogers( as a temporary replacement) earlier and tbh, Bancroft looked a good bat too.

let's see if Jennings can nail his spot at second try or this game of musical chairs continue.

I have a high hopes from gubbins. Looks solid player.
Alex davies is also other opening batsman from Lancashire to look forward.
Rory burns, bell Drummond, hameed, umeed etc will also be in the mix.

They can't seem to find adaptive player who is good against both pace and spin.

Lost count of how many openers have come and gone. When Cook retires, who knows what their opening combination will be.

Been 12 openers who have partnered Cook since the retirement of Strauss.
