Boring batting by Hafeez forced me to switch from ricket to the soccer.
3 goals in the first 10 minutes in the game between Leicester and Everton.
You need to look back a bit of history - for last 7 years. PAK had about 6 CS - Illyas, Qasim, Mohsin, Moin, Rashid & Inzi; 4 Head Coaches - Waquar (twice), Mohsin, Dav & Arthur (Probably Moin as well in short term); 4 LO Captains, excluding MoHa himself - Afridi (Both ODI & T20), Misbah (Both), Azhar & Sarfraz (Both); and 3 PCB Chairman in multiple terms (who approves the squad) - Ashraf, Sethi, Khan (I am not going to count respective tenure, because I don't have calculators at hand now).
Now, in this 6/7 years, thre had been many changes in PAK team, in fact entire cricket set-up - good, bad, ugly incidents. Many positives, more negatives - team has reached No. 1, has dropped to No. 9; PSL introduced, a team visited PAK, PSL final in PAK - not everything is black in those years.
BUT, along with so many ups & downs - one universal truth is MoHa's status & position in this team. It was not Misbah responsible for that Mohali loss - you can check back what MoHa did at that crucial point - Afridi, Waquar lost their job - MoHa kept batting in top 3. Dav joined the set-up & PAK did reasonably well in ODI in WI, IND, SAF - MoHa kept his spot at 3; Qasim came as CS, did few changes - MoHa kept his spot in SAF. Moin came as CS, WY came back as HC - MoHa went to WC as specialist bat; PAK lost 4-0 in Bangladesh (& lost like club teams) - major shakeup in the team, MoHa kept his spot after scoring 8 (or 12) in 3 innings as specialist No. 3 ........ Arthur came on his high horse - 6 months down the line MoHa led PAK in AUS & now has replaced Babar at 3.
Politics or links doesn't earn you so much with that sort of stats. This guy is treated like what Tendulkar got in India - this can't happen unless, he is rated like Tendulkar among every ranks. There are very few players in PAK's history who were beyond politics, nepotism when it comes to be selected in the squad, for that their status was beyond that level - Kardar, Fazal, Hanif, Imran, Javed, Wasim ........ Mohammad Hafeez. Even Waquar Younis had to sit out when PAK had Shoiab, Razzak & Mahmood with Akram & Saqline lost his ODI spot to Malik after 2002!!!!!!!
Mark this post - he is 40 now (you can take my words on this - at Toronto, I have met someone who had played with him at Sargoda) - if he can keep his fitness at remotely acceptable level, he'll lead PAK again.
Most likely after 2019 if we are lucky but before 2023 for sure. Neither PCB nor Mickey will drop him anytime soon
