When will the PCB and the Media come out of the shadows of the '92 World Cup win?

Yesterday in the news once again 92 world cup was discussed again and again, as one minister suggested that PTI govt is in same situation as was Pakistan team in 92 world cup.

On 3rd Test last day 92 World cup trophy was again lifted by our existing team. Frankly speaking back in the mid 90’s uptill 99 world cup final, 92 world cup was not as much discussed as it is after 30 years.

Our 92 glory is becoming very similar to Bobby Moore’s 1966 World cup win for England ( football) and almost 60 years they have not won another world cup.

Only way i think our media can get out of 92 world cup storyline is if somehow Pakistan wins another world cup in ODI. India was also galvanized by Kapil’s 83 world cup but somehow Dhoni’s 2011 world cup as ensured, that 83 is not duscussed over and over again.

By discussing 92 world cup, it keeps giving impression that how much in cricket we have underachieved.
Only 2 semi final appearences since then in 30 years.

And 92 world cup has deep rooted impact on overall Pakistan history from political perspective as well.

In Hockey Pakistan is the most successful nation, winning 4 World cups within 23 year phase.
But 90% of our public is not even aware when Pakistan won those world cups, who lifted the trophy in 1971,1978,1982 and 1994 and who were our opponents and where the final was played.

The achievement itself was fine. How we chose to respond to that fluke is where it all has gone very, very wrong.

As a nation, as a cricket team, Pakistan is in the depths and the only blame should be inward.

All this 92 talk is actually dampening imran and Miandad’s achievements which were far far more than winning the World Cup. All articles about Imran Khan nowadays are littered with “imran captained Pakistan to the 1992 World Cup”

I think 4 Hockey world cups and victories over Spain in Barcelona or Holland in 1978,1994 and Most importantly against Germany in 82 world cup final in India are systematically ignored in all our channels for the past 3 decades.
4 world cups is massive achievement.

We shouldn’t label it a fluke. It was a case of cream rising to the top. Pakistan were one of the pre-tournament favourites. The good thing about the victory was that it proved you need to be more than dibbly, dobbly mediocre players to win a tournament and put England and New Zealand in their place.

It was a great achievement and a culmination of a great era of Pak Cricket.

The problem is kids have a different interpretation of that victory.

The other problem is we keep harping on about it, and even if we want to take lessons from it, we don’t look at the important aspects. Match winners win you tournaments, not mediocre cricketers. But since the mid 2000s, we have allowed mediocre cricketers to have legendary status.

Even if you want to revere the 92 victory, it doesn’t show in our cricket.
