"When your management relies on likes & dislikes, what do you expect?" : Shoaib Malik

Malik turning up the heat on Misbah-ul-Haq.

He's saying what quite a few players are wanting to say, but daren't.

Very courageous from Malik , did not do any favor to his chances of making a comeback but glad he said what others were scared of saying. Hope others like Afridi will also raise their voice against this curse on Pakistan cricket, called Misbah.

Asif Ali is probably the biggest example of the team being selected based on Misbah's favorites. How is he still getting picked despite countless failures?

You may not like Malik but he’s speaking the truth. The fix is very simple: Fakhar, Sharjeel, Babar, Rizwan, Hafeez, Imad. This is the strongest team available. But Misbah is an egoistic guy who doesn’t want to admit his mistake - Asif Ali. Misbah likes players like Asif who will say yes to everything, that’s why Imad was kicked out by the management. He’s confident and will not tolerate nonsense.

It's crazy to see how that the guy that brought Misbah back into world cricket ends up getting his career cut short by the same man

Hafeez has been in great form in recently, but at 43 years of age, its hard to keep your form for long, hope he will keep his form till the world cup but I'm not so sure.

When you try to do the right thing friends can turn into enemies. Misbah's right in trying youngsters over ttfs

Hasn't done much this series. I'm surprised the knives aren't out for him yet. If he loses his place then watch him join the discarded in criticizing management for playing favourites

Shoaib Malik gets so much hate but he is telling the truth here. This misbah is responsible for this dire situation.Kick him out.

He should be sacked immediately this not some people upset on loosing and PCB would think its usual moaning lets keep going no sack him right now otherwise it will be too late Pakistan is in the hands of unprofessional unethical coach. He is destroying future of players by his theory of tuk tuk and Yes Boss style.

And malik is speaking out because hes interested in the future of pakistan?

Hes only serving his self interest You can bet your bottom dollar hes upset cos hes out of the team Not because he cares about anybody or anything else

He's jealous that Hafeez is playing and he's not. That's why he thinks Misbah is playing favourites.
Malik's had a long career, maybe he's thinking of calling it quits. He knows he won't be selected so maybe wants to portray that he's going down as a martyr that stood upto a dictator. In his mind that's probably the best way rather than fail at wt20 and be remembered as a loser

This is a funny thread.

If there weren't any divisions there certainly will be now.
Also takes one meaningless T20 defeat against a lower team and the knives come out.

Sure Misbah probably isn't the right man for the job but at least let the series finish before sending out the tweets.

Also if anyone here thought Malik actually cared about Pakistan Cricket, well the tweet and the timing of it should tell you otherwise.

It's either that or he's extremely stupid

Getting selected against Zimbabwe was probably the best way Malik could pad his stats and somewhat make a case for inclusion in wt20 squad. Since that didn't happen, he's seen the writing on the wall. Now he's looking for an honourable exit at the expense of Misbah

I'm no Misbah fan and don't think he should be coach of the team and I held that view when they appointed him.

However, I don't have much time for the likes of Malik either. How this guy has had a 20+ year international career is a travesty.

Nothing personal against Misbah, but his selection as head coach is deplorable...He was an ordinary batsman with mediocre record,no coaching experience...His selection as coach is true exhibition of Parchi....
Such unprofessional attitude by PCB is costing Pakistan cricket dearly..
He was never a match winner, how could he infuse such trait in players..
I still remember his game against India in World cup 2011...such an *******!

Whats his influence? The same team chased 200 and 180 odd a few games ago so dont give me that rubbish

Hes been let down by awful middle order selectorial selections in danish asif and haider who bat like tailenders Theres always was gonna come a point where the top order fail

This is all on M Waseem, Misbah has been given rubbish to work with

Theyve all been given plenty of chances on these tours n they can barely put bat to ball Whats he to do?

I am not bothered about you enough to give you rubbish - or anything else. Language please.

Also avoid whataboutery - I never talked about Mickey.

On topic: Overall, selector has given a good team to Misbah apart from a couple of people. We have seen how some players like Usman Qadir and Arshad Iqbal could be one's for the future. Misbah's own selections included Musa, Irfan as spearheads on trip to Australia. And the return of Ahmed Shahzad on the back of nothing. His choice of captain was wrong too.

In South Africa, Misbah knew Asif and Danish failed - one needs to be discarded and one needs to go back to domestics. Yet he insists on playing them to provide 'adequate chances'. More importantly, the batting approach and team tactics reek of his time at the helm of white ball cricket - where he was a consummate failure. Just like he could never crack Aus/NZ.

I have a lot of respect for Misbah for the time he helped Pakistan cricket at its lowest ebb, but since then, he has been thrust into roles that he isn' qualified for.

Ordinary batsman?:facepalm
Malik should zip it. One of the reason Pak did not finish top 4 during the CWC 2019.

Misbah has achieved so much more then a loser like Malik!

Misbah has achieved nothing he put Pakistan batting back to 1990s in his time

People are making it seem like all the problems in Pakistan cricket are because of Misbah and if we got rid of him we would somehow be a better team. We were as rubbish under Mickey. Im no Misbah fan but our fans are deluded. A new coach will come and we will be at their throat aswell within a few months due to lack of performance. Captain Babar and chief selector Wasim also need to take responsibility as well as the players themselves.

Coach has a much smaller role in cricket than captain. Responsibility for these performances should be put on on babar first. Favouritism is not just with Misbah but its with us fans aswell. Had Mickey won in SA we would've gone berserk. Had Sarfraz been captain all the blame would be on him but because its our favourite cricketer Babar no one says anything.

Hows he given a good squad when there are only 3-4 batters that can actually bat

Im not as fan of misbah but hes not at fault here Players need to take ownership of their own performance

Danish, Haider, Asif are with the tour for the duration of both legs Theres no other alternatives M Waseem has given him in the squad that can bat at 5-6

Who would you have played from the squad at 5-6? Who left to try that he hasnt?

Hes doing all he can giving chances to these players to prove themselves N match after match they are batting likes tailenders

Malik doesnt care about anyone but himself Hes the type to kick a man when hes down as hes shown by these tweets on the back of the defeat

Where was he when they were chasing 200 down?

Even in heaven Pakistani cricketers will find a bone to pick with some god or angel.

Shoaib Malik speaking about his tweets in an interview:

"I am not against anyone, but I have played for so many years for Pakistan so I can put forward my suggestions to say that this how I feel things can improve"

"If you have a white-ball coach who is an international (overseas) then that would be much better for us; This is because such coaches understand the psyche of players much better - our coaches don't always want the best for their players due to ego issues; So they may be worried that a certain player's record could come close or become better than you (as a coach)"

"In field of cricket there are ups and downs but (a good) coach will give you not just one or two but more chances"

"It's not a problem that Misbah is not bring me in the side, as he must know better; I have no regrets about anything, I am sitting here today on behalf of cricketers who are struggling; Bring me back into the side or not - it doesn't matter to me; I respect everyone and if they feel I am needed for the side then bring me on"

"The statement that I made (on Twitter) was not done to show that I am against Misbah; That is not true; If I meet him, I will be the first one to say salam to him and our relationship will always be good"

"Cricketers have a lot of insecurities and when I tweeted those comments, a lot of people said that I had burnt my boats? I don't believe that as my faith is in Allah and in my skills, and on my hard work"

"Whatever is in my fate is in the hands of the Almighty and not in any human's control - I will have no regrets if I am not asked to play again; I would have felt more regret if I had not spoken on behalf of my fellow cricketers"

"Only when your domestic cricket is strong will you get a good product from it who can play at the international level"

"When Misbah was given all three positions, I was in favour of that because he had stopped playing cricket very recently and he would have power with him; However, he had no experience as a coach but I still felt he would be in control of matters"

"I had been very quite on this matter because just like a cricketer comes into the national side and learns the trade, the same way Misbah would learn over time as well; But I am not seeing that and this is because I am getting a lot of feedback from cricketers who are telling me all this; I only spoke (on Twitter) now because it was needed - it was really needed"

"I am not against Misbah - it was me in the 2007 World Cup who brought him on and he was an excellent cricketer and a good human, I respect him a lot"

"But I feel Misbah needs more time and he should be asked to coach at the domestic level and then by all means, bring him back to the Pakistan side"

https://www.timesnownews.com/sports/cricket/article/he-gave-some-statement-against-misbah-inzamam-ul-haq-on-why-shoaib-malik-was-ousted-from-pakistans-t20-squad/781226

Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq has claimed veteran batsman Shoaib Malik was not picked in the T20I squad for the England series due to his comments against head coach Misbah-ul-Haq. Malik is one of the senior-most players currently in the Pakistan setup and has done well for the team in the shortest format of the game. However, he has not been named in the squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series in England.

Inzamam has batted for Malik's inclusion in the squad stressing on the importance of having someone experienced in the middle-order. In a video of his YouTube channel, Inzamam explained how Pakistan's middle-order is experienced and needs someone like Malik to take the pressure of Mohammad Hafeez. Along with Hafeez, the likes of Azam Khan and Shoaib Maqsood will be batting in the middle-order for Pakistan in the England series.

“If Mohammad Hafeez doesn’t perform then the rest of your middle-order is inexperienced. Azam Khan is playing his first series and Sohaib Maqsood is making his comeback, so it will be difficult for him to handle the responsibility of the entire middle-order,” said Inzamam.

Inzamam claimed Malik has been ousted from the T20I squad as he spoke against head coach Misbah. Malik had taken a dig at Misbah after Pakistan's loss in a T20I against Zimbabwe earlier this year. The senior batsman had said Pakistan needed an international white-ball coach who can groom captain Babar Azam and give the players the freedom to play.

Inzamam feels Malik was overlooked by the selectors and the team management due to his comments on Misbah.

“I think Shoaib Malik is a brilliant T20 player and they could have included him. But I think he gave some statement against the head coach, so that is why I think he was overlooked. We should not do experiments ahead of the T20 World Cup and should rather make use of our experienced players,” Inzamam said.

Pakistan had drawn the T20I series 1-1 on their last tour of England last year and will be hoping to register a victory this time around against a second-string England side. England squad was forced into isolation on Tuesday (July 6) after seven members of the camp tested positive and a second-string squad led by Ben Stokes will take on Babar Azam & Co. in the three-match ODI series starting from July 8.

It seems these tweets didn't go down well with the team management - no call-up for the tour of England and things not looking good for his international future.

Looking at his age, it doesn't make sense for a recall, but then looking at the alternate options tried, you can't help but look back at Malik.

Me personally, his career is done and dusted.

If he does well in the CPL then I can’t see how the CS can ignore him.

Finally we are rid of this perennial failure

Surely he gets into the team ahead of Azam Khan? He’s fitter, had a better PSL season and experience. Although his record in England isn’t good, I still think he’s one of our top players in the SC.

If we have players that are better than Malik then fair enough, but when guys like Azam Khan and Asif Ali are getting picked ahead of Malik then something ain’t right.

Not for me. Looking back has never worked for us and it wont work by picking a guy that struggles with any decent 80mph bowler and has done so for the best part of a decade. The guy has a good cricketing brain and will do well as a strategist but both he and Hafeez have failed for a decade and wont suddenly become good players. Azam or whoever else we pick may fail but so has Malik, but at least with Azam we can imagine what if, with Malik that has been answered.

Fair point, especially in Asian conditions where Malik has a decent record.

In addition he's still a very good fielder and can bowl a few overs here and there if needed.
