What's new

Where does Iftikhar Ahmed fit in this team?

How could you underestimate Iftimania?

Today, he showed his class again as a middle-order batter, played an unbeaten 55(24) at a strike rate of 229.17.

lol as I said, in international he can’t do anything like that. He should stay in domestic.

Iftikhar Ahmed in the 2023 National T20 (8 matches so far):

292 runs (joint 2nd-highest), 4 fifties
146 average, 172 SR, 22 fours, 16 sixes

11 wickets (joint 4th-highest)
12 average, 5.2 economy

I don't think he's doing full potential to his ability, and I don't know how long a career he will have. But he's just someone I'd stick down the order at 6 and don't worry about. He can hit and bowl a bit. I'd rather focus on fixing the rest of the team, than worrying about Iftikhar, especially since the competition for his role there is kind of dire. That's also why I don't want him up at 4, better to develop more long term batsmen for that. He's doing fine at 6, at least better than others, so need to change.

Rizwan also started from bottom and now he can bat as an opener/2nd down. Chacha is waste of time.
That exactly my point we don't have a middle order batsmen hence as bad as ifti is he still walks in to the team.

Watching Mallik and Ifti together in WT20 2024 will be mockery of Pakistan cricket , two 40+ oldies trying to faux the audience

Golden Duck for Peshawar's Captain Iftikhar Ahmed in the first semi-final of the National T20 Cup 2023 against Abbottabad. He failed to put on a show as he was sent back to the pavilion at 0(2) by Shahab Khan.

Can't play spin to save his life, even a mediocre one like Shadab...

He has been phenomenal throughout the tournament.
He was phenomenal in the Bangladeshi league again but it is a big stepping stone when it comes to international cricket...dude was dropped twice off the so-called spin bowling of Warner and Smith in the warm-up against Australia in the WC... can't even remember when he has won us a match against the odds...all a team has to do is to bring a spinner on when he comes out to bat and he is done...

He tried many times, as in the Asia Cup 2023 against Sri Lanka with the ball and with the bat during the New Zealand tour of Pakistan. But he wasn't lucky enough.

Iftikhar Ahmed is Player of the series of National T20 Cup 2023.

He has showcased perfect alround performance:

Batting
Innings 12
Runs 395
HS 76*
Ave 98.75
SR 178.90
50×4

Bowling
Wickets 18
BBI 3/17
Econ 6.15

Ifti reminds me of Chris Harris from NZ.

Similar role. Someone who can bat and bowl but isn't excellent in either department.

Speaking during a media session, Iftikhar Ahmed spoke about his experience in domestic cricket, where he has played at every batting position. He emphasized that he is comfortable fitting into any combination required by the team management:

"I have played at every batting position in domestic cricket, including at numbers 4 and 5. In the Pakistan team, you don't have a choice; you play wherever you fit into the combination. I have confidence in my abilities to perform well for Pakistan at any position and in any condition. I've discussed this with management, and they believe it is more appropriate for me to bat after 12 overs."

"My batting style is beneficial to the team in lesser overs. As a batter, I prefer to receive four or five balls before attacking. Whether playing early or late, I have to consider both the match situation and conditions."

Star sports showing promo of big hitters in the world cup 2024. Pakistan player is Ifitkar in that promo :) So he is the most reputed six hitter?

To be fair he actually is for our country. Which is why we are probably resigned to play him. Looked absolutely lethal last PSL.

Azam khan is probably the only competition to his place who can hit hard and sixes down the order. And would probably had iftikhar’s place or played with him if he was anywhere near normal fitness.

2023 world cup longest six list

  1. Daryl Mitchell (107m)
  2. Shreyas Iyer (106m)
  3. Glenn Maxwell (104m)
  4. KL Rahul (104m)
  5. Shreyas Iyer (101m)

From Pakistan perspective Fakhar Zaman hit the longest. 99 meter against Bangladesh.

Ifti the beast , so much fun to see him playing for Pak :ROFLMAO:

Ifti must tell good stories and then walk around like he’s everybody’s chacha

Ifti has earned another opportunity due to his exceptional performances in the PSL 2024 and T10 matches. However, I believe he should have been benched much earlier. At his age, it's unlikely he'll develop into more than a utility player. Had he been younger, there might have been hope for significant improvement, but now, it seems that chance has passed.

I say lets make Chacha to open in one match. If it works out we will be over the moon otherwise back to the normal routine means failure lol

He may surprise you guys :) In comparison he is nowhere close to any big hitting all rounders going around. For Pakistan if he scores 25 in 12 balls that is a win.

So what are we getting from these Bradmans who are currently opening the innings?

There is no harm in trying a different batting order.
Why don't we drop a non performer like chacha and try a new player in middle order? Or is criticism only reserved for our only run getters in the format?

what other options we have right now? u have already tried Asif Ali, Haider Ali and Khusdhil as ur finishers and seen the results now who else u have who can replace him instantly?

That shouldn't mean we try every middle order failure as an opener. Pak failed to produce an opener after Anwar but none inzy yousuf younus misbah moin Razzaq tried to become openers

Throw Babar and Rizwan in there

Our 3rd and 4th ranked in the world players. They should be able to handle the pressure of these positions

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

If that happens I will literally cry, I am not joking I will break the Guinness world record for the longest time spent weeping

Tbf bro, we need one anchor and one make shift anchor due to lack of 140 SR players in Pakistan.

Problem is Babar doesn't understand rotation. The idea of Australia sending maxwell at 3 if Warner and Travis get off to a flier is an alien concept to Babar.

I've seen this moron in odi send in rizwan at no 4 even after fakhar provided a good start and batted for 25 overs atleast.

Literally we just got haris sohail back, and he forced sohail to accelerate quickly at no 5 due to rizwan making the most insufferable 77 I've ever seen. Credit to sohail for attacking but I knew it would have been his last series due to knee.

This moron can't even give our best middle order bat this decade a proper send off. Smh.

they are not making use of the powerplay properly, the most easiest phase to score runs, dont know what would they do as finishers

ok then i take back my suggestion :ROFLMAO:
Bro chacha at opening will be no different then babar and rizwan, infact he'll be worse.

How many good innings has chacha played in his 4 years? He played one good t20 innings against SA, 2 good innings against C string NZ and one mighty innings against the strongest team in the world Nepal.

Dude despite batting in the lower order where you naturally have high strike rates but low Averages, over their he just Averages 129?

The whole he's a hitter is a myth, This man is a worse player of spin then babar is, he's basically an accumulator who people have deluded themselves into thinking he's a finisher.

Imad isn't even a natural 6 hitter yet can play a sr of 200 at no 7 and has finished more games in odi, batting at a higher sr and averaging higher then chacha in odi.

Chacha is a better bat in t20 on paper yes because imad just like fakhar has been surprisingly poor in t20 batting wise, but that doesn't help chacha's low sr and his absurdly inflated sr in ODI due to that Nepal game.

@Cricket Warrior Nvm I just checked, his sr is now 127 after the 2 joke innings he played against c string NZ lol.

So basically his sr is = to Babar? Despite the fact that he bats in the lower order where Averages are naturally low and SR Is naturally High?

But @Ahmed216 says they are the only ones performing for us
In an ideal and fair and just world, to utilise babar and rizwan, You'd want rizwan as Makeshift aka he doesn't bat at all until he absolutely needs to, kinda like sarfraz in t20, he's just their to hold the line.

With babar ideally entering as a bat after the powerplay to stabilise and make sure the runs are flowing and rotating to the striker.

Too bad we were born in the wrong Multiverse, where Babar and rizwan are prime time opening. Openers are in the middle order. And shadab and chacha are considered our lower order 😂😂. Kamal.

BTW @Rana I'm being fair to rizwan by including him, mainly because of his keeping skills and I think as a keeper only he deserves a spot.

Ideally you don't want him at all and want haris in due to him just being a 20× better Makeshift. You don't have to worry about no from 1 to 7 with him.

But some people want to make rizwan captain, even though he as a captain is no different then babar. I saw rizzu's captaincy skills, he's the same as babar except he's even more relaxed and doesn't really give a damn about what's happening on the field lol. Babar shouts while rizwan laughs or does his iconic, putting my gloves on my face so I look disappointed on TV 😂😂

Basically Rizwan is doing a lot of hand movements, pointing towards someone here and there and not saying anything…a bit like a mime artist. People think that’s awesome captaincy

I understand your point but the only thing I m raising here is why couldn't we develop any hard hitters in the last couple of years?

Now with the World Cup just a month away we cant do much to tackle this problem so we have to go with the ones who have had numerous chances by now and if they don't perform in WC they should be kicked out from the team at the end of the World Cup.

Trust me the way Babar and Riz play in the powerplay Iftikhar will play much better than these two because pace is his strength, what worst he will do compare to these two lol.

Ifitkhar against spin

286 balls 333 runs Strike rate 116.43 , 18 sixes

Ifti against left arm spin

101 balls 114 runs Strike rate 112.87, 6 sixes

Ifti against leg spin

122 balls 158 runs Strike rate 129.50, 8 sixes

Ifti against pace

Ifti is somewhat mirroring Babar's strike rate against spin

Babar vs left arm spin 112
Babar vs leg spin 122
Babar vs Spin 118

( couldn't get off spin stat )

Captaincy is an art, kohli was a terrible captain deapite being an ATG while the likes of Dhoni, Williamson, Rohit, Cummings are brilliant captains.

Leadership is always about leading from the front and you do that by gelling a team and having the gall to support people and even putting others > Yourself on multiple cases.

The reason why I knew sarfraz was a good leader( Although he kinda grew a bit too relaxed by 2018, he fixed himself in 2019 though) was because he

A) Talked to his bowlers frequently to understand what was going on and where to bowl and what to do.

B) Gave reality checks to the team to avoid napping in fields or Doing early celebrations.

C) He didn't cry on camera and remained headstrong. Look at babar after sa gave one wicket defeat and sarfi after he got washed by India in the first CT game.

D) lots and lots and lots of experimentation happened during his era. Plus he kept makeshifting and shuffling to see what worked and what didn't, heck he had the gall to do what misbah couldn't, which is discard shehzad for good and even discard Anwar ali( Deapite the fact sarfi and Anwar are good friends but sarfraz still avoided this doati uari nonsense) people forget it was sarfraz who discovered Imad is a gem at opening t20 bowling lol. He needs credit for this.

Babar on the other hand, you can tell he's not a leader because

A) He can't put other people over himself which is a leadership quality.

B) the idea of discarding his friends is an alien concept to him hence conflict of interest. Heck the idea of shuffling is calculus to him.

C) He doesn't really know how to plan accordingly, infact he doesn't do anything beyond saying shabash shabash 24/7.

Look at the no of players developed in sarfi era: (Babar at no 3, Imam, Fakhar, Abid, Haris sohail( Correctly utilised during sarfi era while misbah era he sucked) return of malik, imad wasim, hasan Ali, return if Amir, Junaid, Shadab, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Hafeez in middle order ,, Faheem sharaf (Bad egg but eh) in middle order ,even rizwan in odi to some extent.

Now look at the no of players developed in babar era

Chacha, Khusdil shah, Abdullah (Not correctly utilised), Saud (Not correctly utilised), Irfan Khan niazi, Naseem Shah(Only decent one), Rauf (Lol), Abrar (only decent spinner), Usama Mir, Nawaz(as mainstay), Haris( not developed), Saim( Not developed), azam Khan (Not developed), Salman agha( not developed)

^^ And I think that's it really. Fakhar and Imam weren't changed until Abdullah came in, middle order never developed it was always babar then rizzu, then some newbie at 5, Chacha at 6 and one of imad and nawaz at 7.

^^ Literally zero experiments or players developed beyond the standard that were already developed during sarfi era.

Read what I wrote on post 140, and you'll understand why.

Just letting you know, If babar actually knew how to utilise, we'd have a solid team. It takes a whike to build teams, Haris sohail was a failure during misbah's era, mainly because they made him bat at 3.

As soon as he started batting at 4/5 plus the years of experience he acquired, he was gun. His technique wasn't good enough to make him handle the early inswing but it was great in playing spin and handling reverse swing ampung other things.

Tayyab is a great no 5, Saud is a great no 4, Abdullah is actually a decent opener, Haris is a good for Makeshift and can be an excellent utilisation if anywhere from no 1 to no 6, Omair bin yousaf isn't a bad decison in test and maybe even a future no 3 for Pakistan if babar ever fizzles out which tbf babar is since 2022 babar has been declining.

Imad is a good no 7, but you can look around for potential upcoming batting allrounders.

Mir Hamza isn't a bad bowler, Ihsanullah was unfortunate tbh, Shaheen when fit and firing is good so is naseem but babar can't utilise properly hence their injury prone 24/7. Abrar I'd a quality spinner.

Problem is these players can't develop under this regime and never will. Let's start with

1) Abdullah: Abdullah is quality, but considering he's playing in a team that rewards averages over firing intent, it's very likely he'll head down the path of imam ul jaq rather then focusing on improving SR because Abdullah unlike Imam is not limited to technique and poor footwork.

Infact in wc 2023 Abdullah ended the 60 match dry streak for Pakistan on not hitting a 6 in the first 10 overs of the game.

2) Saud is not a no 5. He's a free flowing batsmen who would make an excellent no 4, because he is best when batting without pressure and being given overs. But due to rizwan he'll either come in too late and be forced to play a power game or he'll come in too early with wickets falling.

3) Tayyab is an ideal no 5, but warms the benches, isn't even in kakul

4) Saim and usman khan need more time, Imair bin yousaf also deserved a shot by now.

These players can't develop in this regime, and won't.

There are two distinct types of criticism directed at Babar Azam: justified and unjustified.

Unjustified criticism tends to lay the blame for Pakistan cricket's struggles over the past 5-6 years squarely on Babar's shoulders, as if he alone halted Pakistan's trophy tally. However, this perspective overlooks the fact that Pakistan's successes have been limited, and attributing their absence solely to him is inherently unfair.

Conversely, justified criticism acknowledges Babar's an okay-ish captain but questions whether he possesses the inspirational leadership qualities of cricketing legends such as Imran Khan or Clive Lloyd. It recognizes that his success as a captain is largely contingent upon the quality and performance of the team he leads.

On the batting front, unjustified criticism suggests that Babar's skills are on the decline and that newcomers are outshining him. This overlooks Babar's stellar batting averages in all formats and his proven ability to perform in various situations, cementing his status as one of Pakistan's finest batsmen.

In contrast, justified criticism recognizes Babar's impressive performances in ICC tournaments, notably his contributions during the 2019 and 2021 World Cups. However, recent tournaments, including the T20 World Cup 2022 and the 2023 ODI World Cup, have seen a dip in his form, raising valid concerns about his consistency and handling of pressure on the global stage.

The 2023 ODI World Cup was a true disaster for him. When he should have been at the top of his game, he let his fans down and gave his detractors a chance to criticize. This tournament should have been where he made the transition from being one of Pakistan’s finest to one of the world’s finest. He should have set the world stage on fire. After this average performance, many people now believe he is following Amla's path. Amla often disappeared in big tournaments, and his statistics in meaningless ODI series held little significance.

Despite these challenges, there remains hope for Babar's future. At 29 years old, he still has ample opportunities in upcoming ICC events to showcase his talent and prove his critics wrong. The question remains whether he can summon the mental fortitude required to excel consistently at the highest level of the game, but the potential for him to leave an indelible mark on cricket's grand stage is undeniable."

It’s simple cause we wasting time on Chacha. The same answer goes toward who can we replace him with? Well bring any youngster and groom him. He will atleast learn. It comes to same thing for replacement. Chacha can only perform against local junior domestic team. Everyone else is ignoring how his games were against NZ home and away series. We need to kick him out of the team and cancel his salary. I’m so shock, he is playing worst thn Khusdil, Asif ali and haider ali. Pakistan fans still on Chacha Chacha BS! If we keep saying oh we have no one to replace him with, won’t help this situation. They should try anyone at his spot! Someone will click. It’s not like Chacha is performing. His performance is worsttttttt! Kick him out make a statement out

His fans are delusional because he's from the misbah clique.

I've had people tell me that he has a low avg but high sr and that's he's 100x better then Imad lol.

Even though his SR is garbage for where he bats in t20. He can't even play neesham level bowlers.

Ireland he will perform and his fan will over hype

Him and when he plays poor. We don’t have any replacement for him lol 😂 when we have Haider ali and Asif ali who should get as many as Chacha has gotten.

As for Misbah. Misbah doesn’t care about Pakistan cricket. Best example is when he let Umar akmal back in squad lol 😂 I always ask his fan. What did Misbah accept from Umar akmal to let him back in ? We need to banned Misbah recruitment and his son from Pakistan cricket

Asif Ali is also a misbah product.

Asif, Khsudil and chacha were part of the Misbah lower order trio.

If you want a genuine lower order hitter, haris, tayyab and imad are good enough. Haider ali isn't their yet.

Bro at this point anyone! I have a big feeling that I’m a go crazy and do something on Pakistan vs Canada t20 match in NYC! U will all see Chacha going after me with the bat just like the Inzi allooo incident

Getting closer day by day to the world cup and the question is not how does Chacha fit into the team but how does the team fit around Chacha?

Asif Ali is also a mosbah product.

Asif, Khsudil and chacha were part of the Misbah lower order trio.

If you want a genuine lower order hitter, haris, tayyab and imad are good enough. Haider ali isn't their yet.
Lol at tayyab tahir. The guy struggles against the pace of amir yamin.

Not against 120kph. Maybe watch some cricket rather than spend time on hating.
Brother you've gone on a rampage before on imad.

Heck you're the guy who said babar easily makes it over sheryas 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂.

And you're reasoning was what? Overseas conditions? Okay well why does that matter when majority of the time India plays at their home conditions and rarely leaves until they have a tournament? And babar always fails in tournaments? At home sheryas is superior to babar at his own den, considering NZ c team dog walks him.

How many blind haters exist in this world for you? Besides the misbah clique, it seems 80% of the planet is a blind hater in your eyes. Get over yourself.

We all wanted Iftikhar to be a solid middle order batter who could bat conaistently and hold his nerve to finish at least 50% of the time.

Sadly, I don't think I've ever seen him finishing any game. He's played some notable innings batting first and that's mainly it.

Ample opportunities with less reward.

na bro!

Tayyab is not T20 material... he looks shaky against pace.

We need someone very aggressive for the death overs batting and Tayyab would be more or less another Iftikhar type batsman. It's better to pick Haider Ali... at least you can expect some fireworks from him.

Tayyab isn't. He put performed saim, Omair bin yousaf, Haris and in psl had am avg if 42 and sr of 152.

He's a good solid batsmen but pcb believes tayyab should be discarded without any games while hasebullah should be groomed as the up and coming talent.

Tayyab isn't a legend or a goat player but he's good for our standards.

Problem with this misbah/ Babar and rizwan clique is that they just want these babar, Rizwan, Irfan Khan niazi, chacha level players in the unit for some reason, my guess is they want mediocrity so that Bobby and riz can prove their goats.

But overall, Abdullah shafiq, Saud shakeel, Haris, Tayyab Tahir, Omair Bin Yousaf, Saim Ayub( Needs more time), their all excellent talents although tayyab is on the older side due to pcb being a bad management board.

If tayyab doesn't warrant a place in the team, on what basis is hasebullah, Irfan Khan niazi and these types of failures showing their Bhootas in the squad?

Esit: Put performed in the acc emerging cup although his psl stats are good.
