Where is the 'maar pitai' in PSL 9? Too friendly a tournament?

Watching the end of the KK v IU game, one could not help but think that this was not a game between two sides hell bent on beating each other but a relaxed game between set of friends!

We say this every year in PSL and the excuse is that PSL is in it's infancy and takes time to build rivalries but 9 seasons later, why has nothing really changed?

Both franchises are headed by friends.

Nah. This is a laid back time. We are all on the same team- team Pakistan.

Need to show maar pitai in international cricket.

This is just party time fun cricket.
 
Injecting more finances in the league will mean a lot more is at stake for the players. The money on offer is not enough to threaten or challenge the players, they make this much via their international contracts, other leagues as well.
 
Answer: No Ahmed Shehzad, No Umer Akmal, No Shahid Afridi, No Sohail Tanvir, No Ben Cutting, No James Faulkner.

So if you see more animosity, that guy will become blacklisted by you all.

We all know deep down this isn't really Lahore or Karachi playing. It's two corporate entities. They could call themselves Larkana and Kotli tomorrow or Ludhiana v Kabul the next year and the people of Lahore or Karachi wouldn't lose sleep.

Furthemore the players move around too much and its difficult for identities and rivalries to be built up.

The teams should have had icon players pegged to them at the start and then these players move into ambassador roles when they retire to try and build an identity. Players should also come in through PDP programmes and have the clubs dna embedded in them.

Right now its a free for all. Punjabi captaining Peshawar, who previously captained Karachi vs Pathan captaining Lahore. The most prominent karachite in recent years is Sarfraz and hes with Quetta.

Hardly and players coming through PDP.

It's just fun cricket. This time next year they could be playing at another franchise in the PSL. In the IPL the Indians dont play any other leagues. Last week in the ILT20 Amir, Shaheen and Azam were playing together. Babar and some other players were no doubt spending time together in the BPL.

It's difficult to have the do or die passion in such circumstances.
 
Trust me, increase the money involved significantly and watch the fights go up. Plus players will be on edge during the semi's and final.
 
Rehan ul Haq (Management guy of Karachi Kings) and Haider Ali (Islamabad United player) had some conflict during the game between Islamabad United and Karachi Kings.

Islamabad vs Karachi was going on off the field as well.

This. Couldn't agree more. There's no loyalty in the fan base unless you're actually from the city. For neutral fans it's hard to support any particular team when the players keep shifting around every season.
 
They should add wwe style storylines in to the PSL for key players in every team , would make heck a show and one of its kind as well. Pretty sure IPL will be following soon.

Some drama style cutscenes before and after match would definitely add the X factor to the game.
 
I think PSL should introduce WWE theme songs for the player's entry. Will be fun.
 
Pakistan always known for their friendly nature on the field so i think its better suits them to play cricket on good spirit.
 
Finally, a bit of aggression was shown between two opposing captains. Enough of Rizwan and Babar hugging each other all the time. Makes it a lot more fun to watch

Does it really matter though? It’s league cricket and cricketers never actually fight - even if they pretend they’re about to. At the most they make a few mean comments and then make up after the game.
 
Caught some highlights and some of the love between opponents felt straight out from a Sooraj Barjatya soap opera..

The altercation occurred following Roy's dismissal lbw to David Willey's bowling. Rather than considering a review, Roy promptly approached Iftikhar and exchanged heated words, ultimately running out of time to request a review.

Roy displayed visible agitation as he walked back to the dressing room, expressing his frustration by throwing his bat and helmet near the team's dugout.

Roy was dismissed for three after facing seven deliveries, as Gladiators were looking to chase a target of 186 runs set by Sultans.

Iftikhar Ahmed fined for showing dissent

Multan Sultan’s Iftikhar Ahmed has been fined five per cent of his match-fee for a Level 1 breach of HBL PSL’s code of conduct during his side’s HBL PSL 9 fixture against Quetta Gladiators at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi.

Iftikhar was found to have violated Article 2.5 of the HBL PSL Code of Conduct, which reads as: “Using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during a match”.

The incident happened in the third over of Quetta Gladiators’ batting, when Iftikhar used inappropriate language towards the batter who was dismissed.

Since Iftikhar pleaded guilty to the charge and accepted the sanctions proposed by match referee Ali Naqvi, there was no need of a formal hearing.

The charge was imposed by on-field umpires Rashid Riaz and Richard Illingworth.
 
In a post-match presser, Willey revealed details of verbal spat and expressed his appreciation for the intensity displayed by the players. he said:

"What I actually think, I like to see a little bit more passionate things on the cricket field. I think in modern times, more recently, you know that has been stumped out. I actually think it's quite nice to see a bit of passion on the field and I don't think it was anything malicious. It was just two guys passionate about playing cricket and doing well."
