Perhaps I don't know. Though the bat consumption isn't the problem. It's the existence of these wild animal markets all across East Asia.
Looking at how the bat consumption develops is just a narrow view of the problem. The current virus just happened to have been transmitted via the bats. However there are all sort of wild animals held in unnatural conditions and being consumed right now when the whole world is currently suffering from its effects. This is the height of human ignorance, arrogance and indifference.
As the documentary shows people haven't learned anything and continuing this dangerous play with fire. Who knows in next few years an even more dangerous virus might emerge by the consumption of some other wild animal.
It's these wild animal markets that needed to be vehemently fought against however most east Asian countries are reluctant to do so since it is part of their tradition.
