People always say Virat Kohli reminds of a young Ricky Ponting.

Darren Bravo clearly resembled Brian Lara

Aiden Markram seems to have modelled his game on Kallis+ABD technique

I have not seen Babar Azam too much. Also his batting still is in evolution stage. Till now i wasnt sure of whom he resembled the most, he has a unique style. Yesterday however, I watched him properly in test cricket. I nust say there is a bit of young Sachin in his batting style in test cricket in terms of his stance, stand and deliver kind of approach and demeanour. Like Sachin, he does not move a lot, he focusses on getting the balance and placememy right and I like how he seeks to forget about tue shot and focus on tje next delivery with humbleness, again very much Tendulkar style.

Comparing careers, Babar has a headstart in ODIs but Tendulkar took his game to the next level in his 7-8th year into the game. Babar is at that point in his career, he can make his game even better. Good luck to him.

Kohli personally doesn’t remind me of Ponting at all. Ponting was much stiffer in terms of his style. In terms of resemblance Babar reminds me of Sachin for sure out of all the legendary batsmen

His personality is very similar to Tendulkar's. Humble and hardworking. Also, very textbook batsman.

Great to read that I wasn't alone in this observation.

Babar Azam has looked nearest to Sachin in batting style (in test cricket) across last 1-2 years.

Really wish him well. It's such a joy to watch a batsman with such command on his game and doing so with such ease and humility. Beautiful.

Prayers and best wishes from India.

Sachin was very actively tweeting on England vs West Indies test series. I really hope he has something to say on Babar. I want to listen to Sachin talking about Babar.

12 years ago, I wanted to see Umar Akmal playing at Mumbai Indians.

I hope at some point, these two can interact.

He reminds me of pre-2003 Tendulkar as well. A complete all-round batsmen who bats aggressively and dominate like Tendulkar did.

I just feel that his spin game is not as assured and unlike Tendulkar who used to dominate spinners, the same can't be said for Babar.

Against pace, Babar is as good as Tendulkar but against spin, he is well behind.

Doesn't have the ruthlessness that young sachin had in limited overs.
But still his style is probably closest to sachin .

Interesting thread.

Babar Azam in his batting style reminds me of Damien Martyn of Australia who was also very elegant stroke player.

Just check the cover drive of Damien Martyn on YouTube and then compare with Babar, very similar style.

Babar reminds me of young ab. High backlift against fast bowlers and low hands against spinners. Sachin had a bat down technique and was never as dominant as Babar is

Virat, Smith, ABD, Lara when they bat, they make it seem like a matter of life or death the way they look at the ball eyes wide open, making last minute adjustments in stance, using footwork to get in line of the ball.

Sachin, Sanga, Damien Martyn basically all the batsman Babar seems comparable to have the ssme thing in common, the ease with which they played. They only moved as little as needed, just had such incredible composure, balance, gift of timing and placement that they hit the ball across for fun.

No disrespect to Virat, Smith, ABD, Lara . It's just different styles of batting

Balance
Ability to pick the length early
Hitting good balls to the boundary
Head position
Punch
Timing
Technique
Economy of movement
Unassuming nature off field

A Sachin clone.

Sachin was more orthodox, had a higher bat lift and a better bat-swing. His hesvier bat used to compliment that style.
He also used to experiment a lot with his triggers; front and across/back and across/no trigger, and rarely relied on one throughout an innings.
On the other hand, while babar's bat lift is low, his bat-speed is a lot quicker than sachin. His wrists are also more rubbery, and a combination of all these creates a wow factor which makes so good to watch.

What we have seen with Babar so far is that he is very secure and confident about his basic game. He's absolutely mastered it.

We can say he can improvise but does he really have to? Would he risk deteriorating his already fine game by trying to be innovative?

I think he doesn't have to unless his game develops organically lole that.

What he is doing already, if he can keep doing it, just as it is, Pakistani fans and all would be grateful. Anything more than this is a bonus.

Let’s not compare him to Sachin yet, he’s a good young player is Babar Azam don’t get me wrong but you have to perform for 20 years at the highest level as a batsman before you can be compared with the likes of Sachin, Lara, Hafeez or Miandad.

As a Pakistani I hope babar would become much better captain then Tendulkar.

If Babar bats like Sachin than he also bats like Don Bradman cause Sachin was compared to the Don.

Ponting and Kohli are very similar in attitude. Technique is different but the style of play is very similar.

Sachin. Not just in the batting style but overall demeanour. Babar is like one of those rare good boys of 90s, which some of us were/wanted to be. It is just so nice to see someone so incredibly talented put hard work day in day out and rise to the top while staying humble and carrying on in this day and age of "Aggression", "Confident", "Positive intent", "Impact" etc. Not that Babar lacks any of those, in fact his SR was quite high during the innings. But thats not my point.

Guys like Babar are rare in today's world. No offence to Pakistani people, but some of the Pakistani commentators (and PP posters too) are a bit emotional (not unlike many Indians I guess) who get carried away by natural talent of a cricketer to say things and indulge in hyperbole that reek of arrogance. But so far in his career, across many interviews, Babar has never come across like any of them. He knows his game thoroughly and is aware that he has a higher ceiling than any of the contemporaries and he is slowly reaching the top, in his own style.

He is an inspiration to all the people out there who are not : 1. in-your-face-aggressive (virat kohli, shoaib akhtar etc ) and focus on showmanship with their celebrations, nasty, abusive name-calling, silly comparisons (my hero bigger than your hero, my race/country/religion/god greater than yours), sledging or using cricket as a means to posing and modelling with hairstyles and tattoos (dwayne bravo, hardik pandya, kl rahul etc). Babar is in this regard, very much like Sachin.

A lot of the PP posters have a wrong idea of why Sachin was loved by so many Indians; it was not just his records and 100s, it was his nature: he showed to his countrymen that if you work hard to fully realize your potential while staying true to your nature of being calm and humble, you can still reach the top of the world. (something my countrymen need to be reminded again right now in the light of rising jingoism, abuse and aggression in every aspect of our lives).

Keep going Babar. And good men, boys everywhere will applaud you on your rise. I for one, surely will.

That straight drive to Anderson had Tendulkar stamp of class all over it. God damm, what a class player

Same story with forward defense. He's modelled his game on Sachin clearly.

Please close the thread, Babar has a long way to go.

What a disastrous tour so far, absolutely ridiculous performances from the so called great batsman.

Why people are insulting the great Tendulkar here?

Babar is no way near Warner/Kohli/Butler/ fab 4 / Tayler.

Being Talented and Being Great are two different things. Babar is very talented and a compiler if runs. I don’t remember any great innings by him in any format. It doesn’t help his development that he has to carry Pakistan in all formats.

The match winning century vs NZ in world cup last year wasn't a great inning?

What about the century and 97 in Australia?

Ton in Aus was not a great inning by any stretch of imagination. The match was already lost at Pakistan at 95/5 while following on and then Babar scored 104, Rizwan scored 95 and Yasir scored 42 runs. Pakistan lost by an inning.

No one will call Yasir's 113 in Aus a great inning. It was a good one, just like Babar's knock, but not a great one. In both tests, Aus scored around 600 runs and batted only once.

I wouldn't say the Aus innings were great innings - just delaying the inevitable there a bit, but the WC one definitely was

Every test century is earned.and those hit with the team down severely and against a top opponent at their home will always be counted highly.
