Feel a nice little but a competitive enough rivalry is going around in cricket world between these two teams- England and New Zealand from the past couple of years and the closest of that we witnessed was on a WC final early this year.

A WC final in which there was literally nothing that seperated the two teams except that one had to be awarded with the trophy and it eventually went to England deservingly although on a wierd rule of hitting more number of boundaries.

Coming to test cricket, the last time when both the teams met, it was New Zealand who came first with a historical series victory of 1-0 over England, which also included a disastrous 58 all out scorecard for England in the first test.

While England are ODI World Cup champions, in test cricket, it won't be wrong to say that the top two test teams are India followed by Australia and England and the Kiwis are fighting it out for the third spot and this series may give us our answers.

Both are formidable at home. I feel England are better away so giving it to them.

England are ahead in ODI.

NZ are ahead in Test.

It is a tie in T20.

I agree. We are witnessing a solid rivalry between the two teams right now, considering that South Africa and Pakistan, the two other major teams, are down now.

LOs England are better, in Tests I'd give Eng the slight edge.

NZ slightly better. Significantly stronger batting lineup having 4 players (Latham, Williamson, Nicholls and Taylor) who could be said to be very good and Watling who has been the best keeper batsmen this decade.
nz.jpg
De Grandhomme has also been very strong this year. England only have two batsmen who are good (Root and Stokes) and neither of those can stack up against Williamson/Latham (Root only averages 40 since 2017) while Stokes is not consistent enough

England has a better bowling attack, but the difference is not as large as with the batting, where New Zealand is much better

England is the best team across formats after India. Australia is probably marginally better in Tests but England is better in ODIs and T20s by a bigger margin.

New Zealand and currently South Africa stand between the elite teams (India, England, Australia) and the poster boys of mediocrity (Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, West Indies).

England is better all format considered.

NZ is my second most favorite team after India.

NZ the better test side by a bit, due to more seasoned and experienced players who know their game and their roles.

England the better LO side due to more explosive players.

England is currently #2 in ODIs after India and #3 in tests after India and Australia

NZ are #3 in ODIs and #4 in tests

New Zealand are the better test side. Their side is settled and they are very difficult to beat.

England are well ahead in LO.

New Zealand in tests, England in ODIs.

Ranking wise:-

Tests:-

India

Daylight
Australia
New Zealand
England

Odis:-

England
India
New Zealand
Australia

In tests nz are slightly ahead. Although eng have performed better in Asia. 3 nil v sri lanka whereas nz just tied the series.

However , eng are consistently churning out new players. Eng have solid new openers, Ollie pope new spin bowlers, Archer just came and there are a few more talented fast bowlers yet to come . (olly stone, Ben coad and others)

For nz, Ross will soon retire and there is no one to replace him. There are no young upcoming Nz players as of yet.

So for now nz is better, but eng will eventually overtake as they large pool of upcoming bowlers and batsmen

NZ is far better.
Mamoon NZ are far better than SA and NZ one of the elite teams. Their home record since 2013/14 is amazing - since Bmac became the captain. Away, they have won tests in UAE and Sri Lanka, and also in England few years ago.

England is slightly better than New Zealand.Don't forget New Zealand's population is less than 5 million. It is remarkable that such a small country is producing world class players consistently.West Indies with a small population used to produce world class players too before authorities ruined cricket.

but n.z have world class facilities. It's not about the population. They have access to better faculties overall.

England is a poor test team. They were demolished in India, lost an Ashes at home, and failed to beat West Indies and Pakistan.

Facilities are important but population is a factor too.A bigger population means the chance of finding good players is statistically higher.

We don't even have a ground dedicated to cricket in Auckland.

England, Aus and India are well ahead in this department.

Nz have demolished England in first test. This is a good England side as well.

In ODIs, England are the best. I had my doubts about their ability to win big matches and while they still need pitches to favour them, they are , without a doubt, the best in the world.

England and SA play a high percentage of their test matches at home so it's hard to rate them highly in tests considering their recent results. I'd rate India, NZ and Australia as better test teams.

England isn't the best in odi. You can't be the best of you are only good in one specific type of wicket.

It's pretty even between india and England. Dhawan injury made a Huge difference to india plus selecting Rahul over Mayank and neglecting rayudu when rayudu actually performed in n.z vs n.z in an old series under similar conditions to the one witnessed in England.

I would still say india in tests, australia number 2, England/ N.z is a toss up.
England are missing woakes and Anderson.

England are not playing to their potential because of two interlinked reasons: they have a tactically inept captain who also happens to be their best batsman, but the pressure of captaincy has negatively impacted his batting which has been a major blow for them.

When your best batsman goes through a rut, it is inevitable that your team will suffer. Remove the runs of Kohli, Smith and Williamson over a long period of time and there is no doubt that the results will show it.

England need Root to start firing again and get that average to over 50. For that to happen, he has to be removed from the captaincy and replaced with someone who is tactically more astute. I think Buttler or Broad could do a good job without letting the burden affect their individual performance. In Buttler’s case, the added responsibility might even enhance his performance.

England demolished India in the return series and have not lost an Ashes series at home since 2001.

They are rated #3 in the world.

In actual, I think you guys are more worth the #4 spot.

India
Australia(one year of no Smith/Warner has hurt them)

NZ are a very gutsy team though. And my personal favourite after Pakistan.

This isn't really true, NZ has a number of very promising young players, it's just that nobody has heard about them because nobody follows NZ domestic and A cricket. Will Young is next cab off the rank once Taylor retires. He's played extremely well for NZA, scoring hundreds against Pakistan A, India A and a more or less full-strength Australia bowling attack in the World Cup warm-ups. Other promising younger bats include Devon Conway, Glenn Phillips and the immensely talented Rachin Ravindra (he's just turned 20 and he hit a hundred the other day were he took Lockie Ferguson apart). The NZ test team also has healthy looking bowling reserves with guys like Matt Henry and Ferguson.

I agree that NZ are the better test team at the moment primarily because they have a core of very experienced players who've been on the international scene for nearly a decade now. That will change when the likes of Taylor, Watling and Wagner retire in a few years, but I think NZ has enough talent in their domestic scene to ensure the side remains very competitive.

In contrast to eng, nz does not have a large number of potential test gurantees competing for a place in the team. I was aware of Philips and will young, didn't know about rachin and Conway. I know they are talented batsmen(especially glenn). NZ will probably have just enough players to remain. top test team.

NZ currently have more talented bowlers than eng and even aus. But they are all around 27, not really young. I feel really gutted for Matt Henry, who has the potential to be NZs best test bowler, but southee has kept him out.Ferguson is also superb, his test is way overdue but he is 27, not very young. It is a big pity these 2 probably cannot play at the same time.

lol ? Henry is a trash test bowler. Ferguson is indeed a good bowler.
Henry got smacked around for fun from I remember.

yes he has had a bad start to his career. but he is alot better then what he has bowled in his test career so far.his lines and lengths are perfect for tests.

he also has an amazing fc record, probably the best out of all nz bowlers.

If persisted with, he will prove to be very handful.

It has been announced today that the New Zealand Cricket team have been awarded the 2019 Christopher Martin-Jenkins Spirit of Cricket Award.
The team has been recognised for their sporting conduct in the aftermath of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Final at Lord’s.

After losing to England in a thrilling final – regarded as one of the most exciting One-Day International matches of all time – Kane Williamson’s team displayed an exceptional level of sportsmanship, humility and selflessness in defeat.

On an unforgettable day at Lord’s, England won their first ever ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, as they initially levelled the scores to tie with New Zealand at the end of the 50 overs before going on to tie the Super Over as well – winning the tournament by virtue of striking a higher number of boundaries during their innings.

New Zealand were widely praised for their sportsmanship in the immediate aftermath of the final, and their exemplary conduct towards opposition players throughout the tournament.

The CMJ Spirit of Cricket award was created in 2013 by Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) and the BBC in memory of former MCC President and BBC Test Match Special commentator Christopher Martin-Jenkins (“CMJ”), who was passionate about promoting the spirit of the game. The sporting attitude of the New Zealand team was exactly the type of behaviour that Christopher would have applauded.

The award has previously been won by: Wayne Madsen of Derbyshire; Sussex’s Luke Wright; Brendon McCullum of New Zealand; Tom Fell of Worcestershire; and England’s Anya Shrubsole.

Last year’s joint winners were Dan Bowser and Chris Edwards of the England Learning Disability Team, who were recognised for their outstanding sporting actions during the team’s tour of the Netherlands.
MCC President Kumar Sangakkara said: “The New Zealand team are worthy winners of this award. In the heat of battle they displayed a level of sportsmanship that was fitting for such a fantastic final, and indeed tournament.

“It is a testament to their squad that even after a match that will live long in the memory for the cricket that was played, we are still talking about the Spirit of Cricket. Their actions deserve this recognition.”
BBC Test Match Special Producer Adam Mountford said: “Our much missed former colleague Christopher Martin-Jenkins always wanted to see the game played in the right way.

“He would have loved to see England win the men’s World Cup for the first time, but he would have equally applauded the way New Zealand coped with the disappointment of defeat.”

A presentation was made to New Zealand captain Kane Williamson during the second Test Match against England at Seddon Park in Hamilton.

Very well deserved. Even Kohli mentioned , on our tour to NZ, that no team encapsulates the spirit of cricket the way Williamson's team does. In an era of trolling, sledging, fake elite honesty etc. they really do stand out.

England have gone a calendar year without winning a test series for the first time since 1999 (when they were beaten at home by the Kiwis).
