From a cricket perspective, London has to be right up there with numerous ICC events plus the presence of famous grounds like Lords and the Oval.

How about Tampa Bay, Florida? Let me explain. Tampa Bay has one of the best teams in 3 different sports.
American Football / National Football League: The Tampa Bay Buccaneers won the 2021 Super Bowl led by the all-time best quarterback Tom Brady. Apparently the Super Bowl is the most watched sports event in the world.

Ice Hockey / National Hockey League: The Tampa Bay Lightning won the Stanley Cup in 2020 and are in the semi-finals again in 2021 (in-progress).

Baseball/Major League Baseball: The Tampa Bay Rays were in the World Series in 2020 before losing to Los Angeles Dodgers. In 2021, they are one of the leading teams again.

So where would you like to live if you are a sports fan and want to support the home teams?

Best sports cities - New York, LA, Chicago, London, Paris, Toronto and maybe Tokyo.

Manchester United/City , Old Trafford cricket ground , Manchester Velodrome/Aquatics center, Many boxing clubs with home grown world champions, National squash centre etc Many famous gyms and sports stadiums. Twice bidded for the Olympic Games in 96 and 2000 , Hosted the commkn wealth games in 2002. Best city on earth

London.

Lord’s and Oval for cricket.
Wembley for Football.
Twickenham for Rugby
Wimbledon for Tennis

Has to be London.

Due to its location, the logistics and travelling all over the world is somewhat easier and convenient.

Tampa Bay could be rated high in the list of American sports cities but not necessarily the international sports.

Personally I would like to avoid living in Florida altogether for three main reasons.

1- EXTREMELY HOT temperature is summers

2- You can’t build a basement in your home cuz there is water under three feet of surface.

3 - A good chance of an alligator in every single water body and ponds and lakes and sometimes in your own swimming pool.

Hurricanes is another thing that seasonally hit the eastern coast.

I ain’t living in Florida for the love of American Sports.

Toronto Maple leafs won Stanley cup 57 years ago.
Toronto Blue Jays won World Series in 92 & 93(back to back) and have since then made it to playoff just once.
Toronto Raptors won their only title in 2019, & in 2021 they were lingering at the bottom half of the table.

We just lost from 3-0 to 3-4 against Habs in playoff.

Toronto is nowhere near NYC, LA or Boston with record like that.

No. it wasn't 57 years ago that the Toronto Maple Leafs won the Stanley cup. It was in 1967, so only 54 years ago!
The thing with Toronto is that even when they don't win, the locals support their teams. The stadium/arenas are usually full, so in that respect, it is a good sports city. Tickets are really hard to come by and are expensive.

The home team doesn’t necessarily need to be the best for a city to be considered the best sports city. Toronto is a good sports city, not great but good. North American wise; NYC, Chicago, Boston are all up there and LA is a really good sports town as well. International sports cities are different, this is where London comes into the equation, Barcelona is there too.

Manchester has a very good university too. Russell Group, red brick and I guess up there in the world.

As well as a great shopping centre too.

However it has to be London.

I stand corrected with Stanley cup.

Rest I’m not refuting your claim regarding us Torontonians supporting local teams with passion. But OP’s definition of best city was purely based on team(s) enjoying success in various sports which Toronto hasn’t. If passion was the criteria, then lot of South Asian cities would top the charts.

depends on the sports.

First, make the list of sports. then we can choose which city is best.

The most popular sports in the world is what matters, some think Chess is a sport lol.

London, no city comes close.

Wembley - Home of Football
Lords - Home of Cricket
Wimbeldon - Home of Tennis

Add to this dozens of great stadiums in the city.

For the local sports fan who wishes to support a local team regularly throughout the season, London is not necessarily the best.

Wembley - does not have a club team to support.
Lords - the home ground of Middlesex. Who supports Middlesex?
Wimbledon - no local player will win it as Andy Murray is finished.

You don't support a stadium, you support a winning team.

Murray ain't even a local :)) He's Scottish and voted for Scottish secession.

Sure but he is from the U.K., right? More chance of a bloke from London supporting Murray than a tennis player from Australia or Argentina.

Meanwhile, the Tampa Bay Lightning just got into the finals of the Stanley Cup of the National Hockey League again as of June 25th, in back to back years. This is the city for local sports fans as all the 3 major teams are winners.

Karachi for 3 reasons:

1. Karachi street cricket
2. Karachi mafia
3. Karachi media

I went to visit Miami 3 years ago. It was fantastic and would love to go there again.

Ultimately depends on what sports you like the most. If you like a diverse amount of team sports, it would probably be NYC. 2 NBA teams, 3 NHL teams, 2 NFL teams, 2 MLB teams, 2 MLS teams.

I don't agree with Tampa being the greatest, yes they got great major league teams but to be a global sports city it isn't just about leagues but also about hosting major global sporting events like tennis grand slams, F1 and Moto GP, world championships for various sports, Olympics and continental games - Tampa doesn't host any of those and will probably never, they're just a flyover city in the grand scheme of things.

no probs in that. You can visit as many times as you would like. I have visited a few times too. However, it's not personally for me to move and call it home.

You forget that Tampa Bay hosted the Super Bowl (and won it) in 2021. The Super Bowl has the most expensive tv advertisements in sports for a reason.

Other than that they're not a stop on any global sporting calendar, besides SuperBowl isn't global - even Minneapolis and New Orleans have hosted it and outside North America nobody really watches it, it'd be the equivalent of Toronto bragging about hosting the Grey Cup.

London has dozens of local football clubs, not heard of Charlton, Spurs, Arsenal etc? The same goes for cricket and other sports. All town, cities in England have local clubs you can support too.
